I was stationed at Mosawa AB Japan from 1986-89...I went through a few smaller earth quakes there...in the north housing area I was shaken up pretty good while holding my little daughter at the time...she wanted me to stop the quake...of course I couldn't but I do recall living there and loved every moment of it. I miss the Japanese culture.
@KDALove Actually he is right. As long as you get out of a building and get at least 100 feet away, the falling debris is not likely to hit you. These are well learned lessons throughout history and any introduction to geology course will highlight this fact.
i wanted to go over seas when i came in oct 19th 2010, now im sittin in Washington DC Bolling AFB, get to see the capital and other monuments from my work window everyday whilst the Marine one flys no more than 50 feet around my building all day.... still want to go to japan though
I go to school at Edgren right now. 9th grade. Its been two weeks, and we're still getting aftershocks. Just had one about 30 minutes ago too. It wasn't really fun at the school during the first one. You could see the lights flickering and hear people screaming. Plus I was all alone which just makes things worse. Thankfully Everyone at Misawa is safe and no one was hurt.
I spent 3 years in Misawa as a brat to two air force nco's in the mid 80's the base has changed a lot this video put me in the mind set of when we used to have quakes I had a real flashback
@KillCarverlsp Idk I cannot remember, I went to Preschool, Kindergarten and 1st grade on base. I was in first grade in 88. Did u live there during that time?
My son was station there for a time. He loved the base, and Japan's people. He is now in Iraq. I mourn the losses, and hold good wishes for the survivors. God speed, Japan.
Good job in that main building, constructing it to withstand earthquakes and keeping everything tied down so you didn't have a mess all over. Looks like it took the shock well.
Go SMSgt Josephson! I have been monitoring the FB pages at Misawa and they have done an outstanding job so far of using many creative methods to disseminate info. Looks like an organization of sharp folks at AFN Misawa, led by a super sharp Senior NCO. All are in my prayers during this time of tragedy.
I was in the high school playing music when it hit. It was scary, a TV bolted to the wall was hanging dangerously above me.

How the fuck would you be safe under a damn table when lots of heavy bricks and other stuff will be coming down on you?.
Best opinion would be to get the fuck out of the building as fast as you can.
CallamJayce 5 months ago
@CallamJayce Wrong. You're more likely to get injured outside due to falling glass and buildings.

You evacuate the building AFTER the quake, not during...

sorry for my ignorance but... why theres an american airbase in Japan :S?
mjmonje 6 months ago
@mjmonje because japan doesnt have a military ever since ww2.
ImTylerTheCat 5 months ago
@ImTylerTheCat Japan HAS its OWN military. This air base is an american detachment of the PACAF program. See Wikipedia.
ema5676 5 months ago
@ema5676 it's a self defense force. not a military.
ImTylerTheCat 5 months ago
@ema5676 and the Japanese and Americans work jointly. there is a very strong sense of unity between the two.

AFN Misawa! I miss working there. Wish we had pieces like this when I was there--we were always encouraged to hide behind the camera.
