Daytona DC Tracks + Arcade Sounds + SEGA Clasic Racing Graphics + Force Feedback support (like in the just released one) + Super Online = The Chuck Norris of gaming
The original is a Arcade game released in the mid 90's purely designed for instant action and succeeded more then any other Arcade game in history for profits made from the machine alone. The NASCAR name/brand has nothing to do with Sega's Daytona USA, Sega just licensed the track to use the Daytona name.
@MalkSticks17 How is Nascar a disgrace? It's a sport, just tell me two reasons it's a disgrace. It's just like saying "Football is a disgrace." .. For no reason.
Can you please tell me how to drift like that? Assuming the Saturn Daytona CCE works the dame way I wanna ask how you drift that effectively without sidecrashing into a wall in the middle of a drift.
For a comparison of original game controls Download a Model 2 emulator that plays the original Daytona USA then play it with a Computer keyboard then compare it with a Dreamcast controller playing this game.
Man I love that music esp. on the last lap. I heard the arcade ran the soundtrack through some yamaha processor- is that how your version is? Sounds just like the arcade. The DC version was so awesome, but dang the announcer was way too fruity for the game.
Y'all heard about Daytona being rereleased as 'Sega Classic Racing in the arcade? Hopefully an exact port can be made for home consoles. I mean, geez this is the highest grossing arcade game ever!
Hey dude, I don't know anything about programming... but would it be possible for someone using some sort of homebrew application to release a version of this that plays like the original Saturn version and doesn't have the horrible messed up controls of the Dreamcast version?
Not sure, probably not without the original source code. It is a bit twitchy with the analogue thumb stick but it is easier to steer with a wheel, though I used a standard DC pad thumb stick for this video.
@TwistLosi that's a shame. I did own a DC wheel (a third party Mclaren sponsored jobbie) but I didn't really find that improved things much. I ended up giving it away to a charity shop when I moved house about 5 years ago. What's really frustrating is that I've got Nebula's AM2 emulator downloaded, but my PC's hardware just can't seem to handle it. The CPU usage routinely shoots up to 100% on every rom I load, which makes Daytona (and any other game) pretty much unplayable.
@keironewoodgate Us European PS3 owners still need to wait for about another month before this comes out on the PSN over here. I've been getting my Daytona fix from M2 Emu in the meantime, but I'm still definitely getting the PS3 version when it does come out for the online multiplayer.
@MrThunderwing Im in the uk too, I have 4 accounts (2x uk, usa, jap) so i dont have to wait :-). I also did VERY well with the welcome back package after the psn went down!
@keironewoodgate Likewise, I've got a US PSN account set-up (I also did well out of the welcome back package ;-)), but I'm just going to hold on until the UK release of this. Just out of interest though, do all the online options work ok for you on Daytona? I've never tried buying a US game with online play.
@MrThunderwing Yeah everything works a charm. There's not an abundance of lobbies atm but I think its because of the different region thing but its perfectly fine. I've literally not put it down all weekend, its an exact port. No messing with the visuals or controls. Its god damn EPIC!
@keironewoodgate Feel free to add me if you want mate, my PS3 name's the same as my YouTube name. I'm probably going to just hold until it gets released here after all now - just had a bit of an expensive weekend ;)
If people would have supported the DC when it was alive instead of the crappy PS2 then maybe we would have seen more brilliant ports from sega arcade platforms.E.G..Scud Race,Daytona 2,Star Wars trilogy Arcade etc.
Sony advertised the PS2 better though. On TV, I rarely saw a Dreamcast ad, which is why I wasn't informed about it at the time. I had nothing from SEGA after the Mega Drive.
However, the real difference was that the DVD was a BUILT-IN feature in the PS2. That's what really reeled people in. Anyone can give away free DVD players in the US, but not neccessarily in other countries.
@Naomi0111 I wouldn't call the PS2 crappy. Still, there was a chipset called "BLACKBELT" in development for the DC that would allow DVD-roms to be played. Unfortunately this didn't get done in time for launch.
About this ISO. I might download it next to the copy I'm about to buy of this game.
Yes you can put whatever music you want in it as long it's in the right format. But that requires to extract the CDI image, replace the music you want and then having to rebuild the CD which could possibly require changing the dummy file size I made so the game data is on the outside of the disc for faster load times.
Hmm since I dont know much in that kind of stuff... I do not understand. How do you extract the image? (I'll learn on the piff!) I want to do it. I have the soundtrack, all I need is to replace it. I would also do it, using the SFX like you did, but the on of daytona usa 2, what eva the load times.
I've finally got around to making a new CDI image file of this moded Daytona USA as of today 9/9/09 (10 years since DC release) got me into playing some DC games again.
It should hopefully be at dcisozone . com a little later today after the uploads complete
I wish they would make every game they have over again and any one player game would have a 2 player or higher.. co op race to the finish mode.. where you can fight in the level
and everyone chooses where they want to start at in the level and receives votes from the other players as to agreement would never happen LOL
Will we NEVER see this game rereleased for the 360 or PS3 or...?? Man, I'd LOVE to have the original as well as an update version. Even if the updated version was the SAME game but with high res textures. I WANT THIS GAME...AGAIN!!! May have to get a DC again : )
I wish Sega would release Daytona USA 3 in arcades featuring all the courses from 1, 2, Championship Circuit Edition, Daytona 2001 & some whole new courses but iv heard Sega no longer have the liscence to Daytona anymore so its unlikely we will see a 3rd one
Sega had the Daytona license for when they made Daytona USA Arcade, this license was so that no other company could use Daytona in a game other then Sega which I believe ended at the end of 1999. It's the same kinda thing with the NASCAR license Papyrus/Sierra had it for the NASCAR Racing series for years until EA bought the license for some crazy amount of money in 2004 which forced Papyrus/Sierra to stop making anymore copies of NASCAR Racing 2003
The name "DAYTONA USA" was not under license at the time. The track in the game is not a problem coz it's three seven spedway so...
They could release a new game but it's cannot be called DAYTONA USA. Anyway SEGA must have some doubt about the success of a new title coz this one wasn't a great deal for SEGA.
The handling is quite good with some training and with a steering wheel it's great.
People cry today but didn't buy a DC yesterday, silly.
I have a Dreamcast-Linkcable to conecting 2 Dreamcasts and play on TV different TV's. I can play Ferrari 335 with it. On the original pakage of the linkcable ist standing: To use with Daytona USA 2001. Does anybody in tge world know: Is there any Link-Mode in this Game to play VS Races with two Dreamcast on two TV'S?
those look a lot like NASCAR Late Model Series from the front ends, and not so much like the old Winston/Nextel cup "car of yesterday" Not to rip on he game or anything, just an observation.
This game gets a lot of criticism because the analog sensitivity is set too high by default. However, you can easily adjust it and save the new setting to VMU:
Options > Player 1/2 Controller Setting > Analog Calibration > Steering. Reduce Sensitivity to either zero (fully black bar; beginners) or one (mostly black bar with one increment of red; everyone else).
I can guess that changing the music was as easy as swapping audio tracks with the original Saturn release. But, how did you change the sound effects? Do you have any files available so that I can modify my copy?
What fun, that song from Daytona is a myth, the best song ever for a SEGA game(there's no music band hired by SEGA that can do a better song-not even Crush40 :P-).Then the driving was supreme,I don't think I can even see that awesome handling in OutRun XD
I suck at this game. I can't do much more than 2 or 3 races in arcade lol. Can someone give me some pointers on how to drift and get good times please?
i love this game.... i remember my local arcade had this, ridge racer and rave racer very close to each other, i had one go on this and couldnt get the hang of it, but always wanted another try CHEERS DREAMCAST
ok PEOPLE. i know this has nothing to do with DAYTONA USA. but does anyone know where i can get an updated version of Streetfighter 3 3rd strike for DC.
I saw an amazing one about two year ago but it looks like its been removed and i aint seen one like since.
Had the best opening scenes before fights and EXTRA animations on the characters.
I replaced the original game sound files with the ones I reocrded from the Arcade rom, I had to edit the volume levels a bit and encode the sounds into the same format Daytona uses on DC and then make a working CD to play it on Dreamcast as shown here.
The DC version only uses 1 sound file for some of the things like "Time Extension" so I had to pick 1 sound only :( where the arcade version has 3 Time Extension sounds by memory when I was recording the arcade sounds.
this is awsome on the dreamcast.I still have a dreamcast, but i dont have this game anymore :(. Still i can play it using the model 2 emu which is a bonus. Excellent arcade game, excellent console game.
Daaaaytonaaaa let's go away, let's go away...! Ah, great memories on the Sat, I play this game every chance I get at arcades (what few there are these days)...
Hmm someone posted a message 1 week ago which I accidently deleted when removing a spam message, 1 click it didn't update and the 2nd it updated and removed both :( lol
Actually, when an arcade machine is setup to do races longer than the normal setting, tyre wear and damage does occur... but it never shows up in the console/PC ports. :(
Wow.You're a good racer.Where did you get the Arcade sounds? The nearest shoping center has an Arcade at the top floor. But now...the Arcade has been raid.:(
me again, i liked it when your nailed that turn just before the tight hairpin, and speaking of the hairpin, liked it when you nailed that hairpin turn to overtake the leader!
I have the DC version, and I even have a steering wheel for it. Man, the secret to this game is soul drifting... How do you do it? It must be different than games like burnout, where drifting is as easy as turning the wheel.
What I dont get and its been bugging me for years is that ALL the acrade music is infact in the game via the music menu!! I emailed AV but no reply some years ago on how to activate it, if there was a way to do so of course. :(
I always loved how this game looked so damn good, the soft shadows were very impressive and were dynamic as well, not many games back in the last gen days had dynamic shadows let alone soft ones, the cars just lacked real reflections, but other then that this game was jaw drooping and damn fun!
I had this and the Saturn games, man those were the days ahaha!

SEGA needs to release, FIRST, all the arcade versions of Daytona for Xbox360, PS3, Wii and PC.
*Daytona USA, MODEL 2 (1993, 1994)
Daytona USA 2
Battle On The Edge & Power Edition MODEL 3 STEP 2.1 (1998)
With no changes to the gameplay, handling, control, physics, A.I. car behavior, etc.
Keep the GRAPHICS the SAME, do NOT change/update them like the Dreamcast version. Remove popup/draw-in from the original arcade, though.
Then, make an all-new Daytona USA 3 for the HD consoles and PC.

I suck at this game. I can't do much more than 2 or 3 races in arcade lol. Can someone give me some pointers on how to drift and get good times please?

It would be awesome if you could share this version with us! I, for one, am a HUGE fan of Daytona USA!
HVC001 3 years ago
ok PEOPLE. i know this has nothing to do with DAYTONA USA. but does anyone know where i can get an updated version of Streetfighter 3 3rd strike for DC.
I saw an amazing one about two year ago but it looks like its been removed and i aint seen one like since.
Had the best opening scenes before fights and EXTRA animations on the characters.

How did he get the arcade sounds on there...
Can you use a VMU or has he messed around and totally edited the game
TheHairyPillow 3 years ago
I replaced the original game sound files with the ones I reocrded from the Arcade rom, I had to edit the volume levels a bit and encode the sounds into the same format Daytona uses on DC and then make a working CD to play it on Dreamcast as shown here.
TwistLosi 3 years ago
Did you upload the obtained image anywhere?

christinequek 3 years ago
where is the first extension sound?
gunboss201 3 years ago
The DC version only uses 1 sound file for some of the things like "Time Extension" so I had to pick 1 sound only :( where the arcade version has 3 Time Extension sounds by memory when I was recording the arcade sounds.

Hitting 1st and then 3rd and back to 4th on every corner with the peddle flat on the floor.
My best lap was 42 point something seconds.

Daytona is the only racing game liked. Sega should come out with a Anniversary Edition for the next gen systems.
Gegray 4 years ago
Mean ass drifting yeah!
LOL good job you dont get tyre wear like in sim racers eh?
KongoXIIV 4 years ago
Actually, when an arcade machine is setup to do races longer than the normal setting, tyre wear and damage does occur... but it never shows up in the console/PC ports. :(

I still remember the old days... but prefer Sega Rally.

Frickin' love Daytona, if only they'd do a new online sequel on PS3 or 360. or even an emulation of the arcade version playable online.
GuruLarry 4 years ago
most SEGA arcade games that are on Dreamcast are just 100% ports so every think is the same part from controls i love this game its kick ass
arranmc182 4 years ago
I still haven't seen the torrent for your patched version on the DCForums. Are you still planning to release it one day?
PEAB0 4 years ago
Wow.You're a good racer.Where did you get the Arcade sounds? The nearest shoping center has an Arcade at the top floor. But now...the Arcade has been raid.:(
ikrambidi 5 years ago
CLASSIC GAME.
I salute you for this. If possible, a vid of 777 Speedway with Arcade sounds would be the icing on the cake.
We should petition Sega to have Sumo Digital develop an Xbox 360 and PSP version with every track incl. Daytona CCE, 2001 and Daytona 2.

me again, i liked it when your nailed that turn just before the tight hairpin, and speaking of the hairpin, liked it when you nailed that hairpin turn to overtake the leader!

If you guys want this version of Daytona USA check the DC Torrent release section of (dcforums dot co dot uk) in the next day or so.
TwistLosi 5 years ago
I can't see it. I would you the search field but you have to be a member, and they aren't accepting new members :(
PEAB0 5 years ago
I have the DC version, and I even have a steering wheel for it. Man, the secret to this game is soul drifting... How do you do it? It must be different than games like burnout, where drifting is as easy as turning the wheel.
nanakixiii3 5 years ago
I hopeI got this. But,how u get the full original sound?
Daytona40 5 years ago
Woah this looks sexual, i can't find the Championship Circuit edition for the saturn anywhere, so i'm stuck with the first one.
