I was there, the only female foreigner to also perform at the Symposium. Paul was very humble and sweet. He actually was awarded an honorary prize for his kargyra. They treated him like royalty. If you'd like to know more, contact me for loads of info.

While Paul Pena is really good, the people of the Appalachian mountains in Kentucky have been singing like this for well over 200 years, so why not any credit for them? I guess because their White huh?
I doubt because they are white; first, the Siberian, Inuit and Mongol, Tuvans have been doing it a lot longer, and have no attention in the western world really. How many pop singers are white and are constantly gushed over? What does race have to do with art in this video anyway?
@iamthebabs looks like your the one who has a problem with others pointing out race. Thats a personal problem; and personal problems need to be personally dealt with, not projected off for others to keep quiet because it hurts your precious feelings.
fucking crybaby.
not to mention, still didnt explain why White Appalachians were passed up. But crybabies always side step any issue they cant explain.
It's sad that he felt more at home and loved in Tuva than in the United States. If you have the time you should watch Genghis Blues. It's a really good documentary.
SHIT talking about Paul ! Do you really think, that anybody in the world would be interested in knowing that you might have a better voice than ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT BLUES MAGICIANS OF THE LAST CENTURY....man???? Paul is fantastic, HE`s the GREATEST !
He was a good musician & singer & a great person but"ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT BLUES MAGICIANS OF THE LAST CENTURY."gotta be a bit objective you know, I can think of a lot other bluesman who ment a lot more for the genre (not saying Paul wasn't good or anything) but don't over-do it you know ;)and I don't think Kormiku thinks anyone is really intrested , but I gues the guy or lady's just proud of what he/she can do . and believe me there are a lot better khoomei-singers out there then Paul Pena
Yeah I did, hehe. Its alright. Paul isnt the best khoomei singer, and neither am I. I was just stating the fact that my kargyraa voice is lower than paul's in these movies. I you dont believe me, go to my youtube channel and I have some video of me doing that. It is undisputed that he is a better all-around artist than me; I was just stating that my voice is lower. *Puts on flame-shield*
Well, Kormiku, I watched your video. You are more skilled at Kargyraa than I, but I can't say you trump Paul Pena in any way -- even in terms of singing low notes. Said Paul himself: "My voice is lower than most Tuvans. They have a style that makes your voice lower. When I use that, there's a slow song when I hit a note that's four white keys from the left of the piano."
that video is from when i first learned kargyraa, ive been practicing every day since ive made that video. i cant go much lower, but my tone is a lot better than it was before. I can sing a low C in my normal singing voice, which depending on the piano, is 2-3 white keys from the very left. Using kargyraa techniques, i would think you can make it an octave lower than that, which would sound insane... think low tuba range. if you can do that, please post a video id love to see!!
Shuckslbj, i just made a video singing some arty sayir and posted it as a video response to this video. Check it out, i am much lower than pena, id say about half an octave lower. bad quality phone camera, and i want to stay semi-anonymous so i didnt photo myself, but its my voice singing it
He was a great mucian !
jaren geleden op tv gezien ik was echt onder de indruk

I'm slowly learning how to do this.
I can hit a constant note with a faint whistle.
How do you make the whistle louder?

This singer is considered the best at this.

Good kargyraa, and I can match his tone and pitch on arty sayir and can go much lower than him actually. It probably isnt his lowest voice either.
