I like this movie I learned some things from it too. I didn't know about Tajweed(sp?) I thought the Qur'an was simlpy recited it sounded so beautiful when the children were reciting.

I felt so sorry for that little girl from the Maldives though. She is so entusiastic about learning and intelligent- only to be told by her dad she can only be a housewife that was heartbreaking.

Cont... This guy reminds me of the priests that criticized Jesus for not washing his hands before he ate...They said it was a sin to do so. Jesus responded gracefully by saying nothing from the outside can make you unclean...only from what's inside. After the little girl finished and came back her father was disappointed with her that she forgot some...What an arse hole and a hipocrit. Everything that Jesus spoke was perfect...and this is what I believe and know...I don't see truth in Islam.

Well I'll try to elaborate my views... There is one scene in the movie where the father of that little girl says that he believes a "good" muslim does not wear his pants below the ankle and they should have a beard. Supposedly the part below the ankle will go into the hell fire. I don't know much, but I know this....how you wear your pants or having a beard does not make you a good person. Ahh yes...memorizing the beautiful verses of the Koran... which one would that be?... The several verses that say you should behead and/or kill all of the unbelievers? [4:89].. The true word of god warns of an Anti-Christ that will consume the earth and be followed by more and more people every year. Surely this is it in my opinion.

I watched this last night and was surprised by how engaged I was by each of the stories. I had conflicting feelings while watching. On the one hand, the contest provides an enormous stage for children from around the world to demonstrate an amazing and beautiful skill that they've worked hard at, on the other hand it was a little disheartening to see the intellects of these gifted children so narrowly focused on memorizing a religious text.

My heart just about broke when poor Djamil cried. I wish i could have been there. I would have given him a candy and read Qur'an with him. Nothing lifts my mood and spirit like reading Qur'an. Coming to Egypt by himself, not knowing the language but still giving it his best...his father must be immensly proud.
