On the one hand, I loved the 'Jon Pertwee' and 'Tom Baker' series, and the 1980 theme. But I also like Orbital's take, and I laughed a lot when I saw Rowan Atkinson's 'red nose day' dr who parody.
this sounds like someone was messing around on a Casio and happened to hit the record key. was there a lapse in attention on final editing in the 80s, or is the author of this video a novice? there are a few bars where the keyboard is just completely off time. this isn't taken directly from the final cut of the show on air, is it? someone was just attempting to play it himself? p.s.; sorry if what i wrote is insulting; i'm sincerely curious.
well ive seen every series since the first - yes i'm that old! That theme tune always sends a shiver down my spine - it was so way ahead of its time and it keeps going - i just hope the new doctor lives up to the rest
@batder Well I'm not *that* old but I do remember the 80's theme from my childhood and have to say it probably had an impact on my interest in electronic music throughout the late eighties, nineties and now.

Actually the coolest thing is that after 20 years or so of trying to out do the original theme sound created without a single synthesizer using audio tape, filters and pieced together with scissors and scotch tape they finally gave up and just use that sound for the new theme (which sounds really cool with the orchestra in the background).
@GarageFriend I thinks it's funny that in the beginning they used the newest electronic musical technology and now they use the centuries old format of an orchestra.
Me, too. I know it can sound corny or snobby to always prefer the original, but it really is scary/mysterious in ways that these versions aren't. The hooks work better as well as they're more subtle.
1980 one was good but the second one was rubbish and the third one was no good either, I still prefer the original. Also where are the video effects that go with the music??
the 1987 theme was awesome! But i prefer the new one! :-) i used to like the 2005-2007 one best and thought the 2008 one was a bit OTT but i've really grown to like it !!!!!
Its amazing that this show still has the same theme music. Shows ususually change them over time sometimes the change is good and sometimes its not. This is great.
