  • The theramin in this is just so eerie. I prefer the 1980, because that's the one they showed on KTEH when I was growing up. I'm probably biased.

  • Long live Tardis' and stuff

  • dr who greatest show of our time and space

  • Long live Dr. Who.

  • On the one hand, I loved the 'Jon Pertwee' and 'Tom Baker' series, and the 1980 theme. But I also like Orbital's take, and I laughed a lot when I saw Rowan Atkinson's 'red nose day' dr who parody.

  • i can hear the 9th Dr's theme in the 1985 theme a lil bit

  • What if somone got implanted two hearts? lol

This might sound stupide but were can i download the the theme?

The first one from the video?

  • I like the old themes. The new ones sorta take out the mystery thats in the theme that the Doctor is. More science fiction than todays themes.

  • @DavidCavana his name is The Doctor he is known by that name and river song knows his name

  • this sounds like someone was messing around on a Casio and happened to hit the record key. was there a lapse in attention on final editing in the 80s, or is the author of this video a novice? there are a few bars where the keyboard is just completely off time. this isn't taken directly from the final cut of the show on air, is it? someone was just attempting to play it himself? p.s.; sorry if what i wrote is insulting; i'm sincerely curious.

  • @DavidCavana Ha ha ha ha ha ha. Got me their. Actually one time he whispered it to someone.

  • Ha ha ha. You got me their. But one time he whispered it into someone's ear!

  • his name isn't Doctor Who it's The Doctor

  • i think dr who is the best show on earth

  • The 1980 version is fantastic, but the original is best. Quite an amazing theme, the best TV theme ever.

  • amen

  • I dont know why but it reminds me at the Tripods opening!C☺☺L!*****!

  • Very likley they were played by the same people, unfortunatly i think delia was probably gone by then and I dont blame her.

  • Dr. WOOWHOOO :P

  • Ahahah, yeah! xD

  • The Doctor LIVES ! and will live forever !!!!!!!

  • i like the 19802 best

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY Doctor!!!!!!!

11/23/1963 is when it all began!

  • @drwho46 Wow! Almost 50 years ago! That blows my mind (and makes me feel incredibly old...)

  • 1980 was a lot better than i thougt it was gonna be.

  • i like 6th doctor's theme

  • Gotta agree, the 1980 version is best. Followed very closely with the current full orchestra version.

  • i agree

  • the eighties were some of the best who episodes.

  • This is so AWESOME!!! I only knew the later theme's...Go Doctor!!!

  • well ive seen every series since the first - yes i'm that old! That theme tune always sends a shiver down my spine - it was so way ahead of its time and it keeps going - i just hope the new doctor lives up to the rest

thanks for this trip down memory lane

  • @batder Well I'm not *that* old but I do remember the 80's theme from my childhood and have to say it probably had an impact on my interest in electronic music throughout the late eighties, nineties and now.

  • I know the reaction is a bit late but... Dr. Who was first aired in the sixties ^^

  • i wasnt born yet and i grew up with the new series ones. With rose and that. Man just listening to this just makes me wanna i dont know watch every episode back to back! I wish i was born when the first docter came

  • I know exactly what you mean. the first theme sounds just awesome.

  • i spent 8 minuts listening to the same song over and over, and it was EPIC, nice vid

  • i dont know why u got thumbs down. This song kicks ass. Thumbs up

  • Doctor Who always kicks ass!

  • wait 8min thats how long the song is

  • cheers for the post.

  • That theme influenced tons of stuff from games like tyrian to x-files. it feels weird to see the root of all

  • the last one was the best i think i love you tube

  • Although i'm 27 years old, i never watched "Classic" Doctor Who. My first Doctor was Eccelstone, and "My Doctor" definitly is David Tennant.

Hearing these songs for the 1st time, in my opinion the 1980 Theme is the best, didn't like the other ones to much...

  • Same here...I always fell into camp shows/movies/fandoms via their sleeker retools. When you take the edge off of camp through familiarity with something similar but less grating, it can really uncover some great stuff.

  • don't go all mentle, I think the Mccoy one was one of the best but I love 1985-6, trial of a time lord.

  • @vegunited

why are you so worked up? O.o

  • I wish I was Doctor Who

  • @Pahjx No, you wish you were THE DOCTOR. He isn't called Doctor Who.

  • @PooKneader

iknow thankyou atleast somebody knows t i gets so annoyed when someone calls the doctor doctor who.. ive never heard his companian call him doctor who or say hello im doctor who.

  • @Pahjx me too

  • @Pahjx

You CAN'T BE DOCTOR WHO! Correctly speaking you should of said

"I wish I was THE DOCTOR"

  • @Pahjx i think we all wish we were doctor who XD

  • @Pahjx me toooo

  • @Pahjx Everyone DW fan wants to

  • @dalekjoe8 Chicks did a guy with a time machine!

  • @Pahjx So do i! Abbility to regenarate! Oh man! I wish i had two haerts!

  • @GTAIVFan17 Regeneration would be neat. I could live longer and change my face.

  • @Pahjx I wish I may, I wish I might, to see that flying callbox tonight!

  • @Pahjx same here

  • i like that

    including the old themes

  • who doesn't like every single DW theme? :)

  • *nods*

They all kick ass but i like the series 1-3 of the new one's. I dunno it makes him look more "kick ass" for some reason like you know he's somebody you don't wan't to piss off lol

  • loved the whole presentation !!

  • I like the very first one the best.

  • amazing how the music styles and genres change in 30 years!!! lol

  • this is brilliant i will give you 5 stars

  • I love that the Doctor Who theme has remained basically the same over the years. It has changed a lot, but it still has the same melody/tune.

  • Actually the coolest thing is that after 20 years or so of trying to out do the original theme sound created without a single synthesizer using audio tape, filters and pieced together with scissors and scotch tape they finally gave up and just use that sound for the new theme (which sounds really cool with the orchestra in the background).

  • @GarageFriend I thinks it's funny that in the beginning they used the newest electronic musical technology and now they use the centuries old format of an orchestra.

  • @Zipgunn1 they used it for star wars

  • these have got to be my favorite doctor themes, plus 2nd doctors theme.

  • definatly the 2nd theme.

  • hate the 1987 logo

  • Me, too. I know it can sound corny or snobby to always prefer the original, but it really is scary/mysterious in ways that these versions aren't. The hooks work better as well as they're more subtle.

  • Totally agree

  • I like the original better. The others have a sort of obnoxious sound to them

  • Yeah. Like late career Moody Blues.

  • Great, especially hearing the FULL versions. I have not heard the 1986 (crappy remedition) and the 1987 version in full before now.

  • 1996 is good to i want to make my own any tips?

  • 2005 was the best theme song

  • 1980 one was good but the second one was rubbish and the third one was no good either, I still prefer the original. Also where are the video effects that go with the music??

  • the 1985 tune sounds like a cat being strangled

  • i love the 1987 tune! im a big dr who fan

  • the 1987 theme was awesome! But i prefer the new one! :-) i used to like the 2005-2007 one best and thought the 2008 one was a bit OTT but i've really grown to like it !!!!!

  • einfach genial die idee.

    C.C.

  • Its amazing that this show still has the same theme music. Shows ususually change them over time sometimes the change is good and sometimes its not. This is great.

  • I think in a lot of ways the themes of the new (Eccleston and beyond) series sound more like Ron Granier's original nusicthan many of these did. But it is nice that they tried to keep the same SPIRIT of the theme over the years.

  • The 2005 Second Series theme is actually a pleasant mix of symphonic orchestral, modern electronic, and the original radiophonic modes. Especially with the help of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, the 2005 theme has an almost transcendental feel to it, underscoring the fact that the Doctor is a time traveler.

  • Yes- I especially like the way the new themes emphasizes the melody that was always an underlying part of the theme beneath the electronic "ooo-WEEE-oooo" bit.

  • no offence but the first tune sounds like a darlek playing an electric guitar

  • The only offense you made was the misspelling of Dalek. Obvious that you're not a fan lol

  • lol people always misspell dalek. i was watching some video where this guy is using garrys mod or something similar to make a dalek prop into an enemu and he kept pronouncing it 'Darlick'.

  • Dalek, not Darlek.

  • Like the second theme. :P

  • the 1985 one

  • aw, u don't have baker's...

  • Is there no one here that watched Dr Who in the sixties? Comments only go back to Dr #3 but I remember Dr #1. Loved it but was scared to hell as a young kid. I believe that the original storyline only had the Dr regenerating 7 times. The Dr telling fibs?

  • They really got it wrong with the mid-80s 'jazz' mix, eh?

  • The beat sounds sort of backwards

  • i love doctor who.

people take the mick out of me becouse i like the old ones

  • i feel the same way m8

  • where did you get the music files for this?? please tell me

  • I like this theme, I remember something in my childhood... I dont know what

  • now i just luv

  • i am glad i m human cuz ifff i were dalek or naruto or QQQQQQQQQ iwould love and hate

  • dr who and naruto were al kidzzz!!!!!!!!

  • da ma its chinese check it out check out its tonnes of uses too

  • 87 sounded spooky. i was born the day before halloween that year

  • The One with the "1985" theme tune was actually made in 1986 for Trial of a Timelord!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Good work......sounds good.....

  • Tom Baker rules! No other Dr. comes close... I'm so glad I recorded them when they cameout, but they are on VHS so I can't upload

IMHO, the Five Doctor's episode is excellent!

  • I'm not a fan of the 80's themes personally. I think the original theme is so unique and timeless and the modern theme has that great orchestra feel but the 80's themes feel too dated.

still, they have a place and are interesting to listen to with the others because they chart the show's longevity and adaptability.

    thanks for compiling this.

  • Why did you thumb down my comment for voicing my opinion. In MY opinion David tennent sucks, he cannot act. I prefear Sylvester Mcoy because for one he was the second Doctor I saw unlike half the fans who have become fans for seeing david tennant first.

    So hahahahaha

  • loser - u dont know good talent when u see it, i have seen other docotrs, they are good, but david tennant is the best

  • sorry, replying to kermit900 :S

  • U huys is disaggre wiv me are idots. The reason for dr who going down the pan are these themes, apart from 1980. That wasnt too bad, the actor was good.

  • doctor who isnt going down the pan! its one of the bbc's most viewed shows idiot

  • the 6th and 7th were crap. the new ones are very good, the film was crap as well. 5th and before was good.

  • got to love that initial decay on the '85 tune... mmmm retro goodness :)

  • bitch david tennant is the best!!!

  • damn skippy. he's MY Doctor.

  • nat aa

  • What's starnge?

  • Oh and you thought that they broadcast them like that!!!!????? THESE ARE THE EXTENDED VERSIONS!!!!!!

  • Loved the '87 tune!! It just rocks!

  • not

  • '87 tune ROCKS!

  • It's missing the tune from the TV movie.

  • Jerk off to Davisons best episode and Nicola Bryants cleaveage?

    Ok then :)

  • why don't you?!?!

  • The Tv movie theme just had the middle eight in it as i recall.

  • I liked the 70s ones better but the ones from the 80 are great and way better than the new ones.

  • Fascinating how the main tune stayed the same through the years, only was 'remixed' differently each time. Very interesting.

  • classic. although i prefer David Tennant's version.

  • Just one of many indications that things were going a bit off at the Doctor Who production office.

  • Rubbish. These themes were perfectly acceptable.

  • I love the 87 theme, just got more of a difference in it if you know what i mean :D

  • The 1980's theme is the best. It's awesome! Thanks for the vid!

  • to me their all good including the current tune the difference is the backing sound and the volumes of everything

  • The 1980 theme is the best throughout the shows history IMO. The 1985 theme isn't too bad although the middle 8 is a bit too high pitched. The 1987 theme I never liked although it is interesting to hear the full version of it, thanks :^D

  • Where can I download the 1980 version?

  • Ron Grainer also composed the theme music for "The Prisoner" along for many movies.

  • Who ?

Who composed this title theme ?

  • It was originaly composed by Ron Grainer.

  • This is great! I never really watched the Colin Baker tenure of Dr Who so the theme was a revelation. It might have been the best of the three, actually. More 'spacey' than the rest. Thanks for posting.

  • doctor who is older then 1980 it started in mid 60s

  • Cool! I've never heard that extended edit of the 1987 theme before. Did you produce it, or is it a commercially released version like the 1980/86 ones?

  • Yes, I'd like to know where that came from! There's a slightly longer version of the '87 theme on Youtube, but I haven't heard this one before.

  • Where did you find the full length 1987 theme from? Been searching for a long time for that!

  • like hell is he better

  • I love dr who, big fan, go doctor!

  • wonderful song/maravillosa cancion...

  • I am new to Dr.Who though i have been wanting to watch it since 1992. This is quite nice for me on knowing the themes from the show

  • The US should do there own version of Dr. Who.

    Just kidding. ;)

  • I almost booed you. ^__^ loves to Dr. Who

  • Bloody nora... I never heard 85 or 87 before but I dont like them.. 80 was the best :D

  • Monty Python and Dr. Who are the two reasons I love you Brits

  • Two of the best shows on TV EVER. Gotta hend it to them.

  • I liked the 80 and 85 theme tune openers the best along with the "Trial Of A Time Lord" Opening-Closing.

didn't like the 87 one that much

  • original one is the best

  • Which, you mean the old black and white ones?

  • the 70s dr who when i was a kid lol long time ago

  • I don't remember which one that was, but they were certainly more mysterious and creepy, especially the really old ones. My favorite was the first one on here, with I think the fourth and fifth doctors. It was the one I heard first as a kid, but also I really like the closing credits one, it feels very expansive, almost old-world like. Dunno. I could listen to it all day, probably :)

  • I am a real doctor who fan! i know all the doctors, who they were played by, when it was first broadcasted, why it mysteriously came on without warning and how long it's been going on for

  • That's just super. But can you tell us what they're THINKING?

  • lol good one!

  • just a tip. uy probably should have saud thanx for LISTENING. but anyway, great job in getting these all together. the 1980 tune kicked ass, the next one felt more erie and creepy, while the last one felt more alien like. still, its amazing how much these tunes have changed in that 7 year gap. great job.

  • It's amazing to think just how much they've changed. I mean, the new styles applied to what is in essence an amazing theme.

    Glorious :)

  • I am not a Doctor Who fan, but this theme tune is excellent.
