@kingairflyer6 Nod, thanks for clearing that up. I noticed the spoilers didn't deploy, did you see that? Either the pilot forgot to arm them on approach or they were practicing for spoiler failure. Either way...boing!
@dHC8Pilot I know that on all Dash8 aircraft, there's roll spoilers that activate below 140 knots, but I highly doubt that the 100/200/300 series don't have spoilers deployable on landing; after all, all their wings are high-aspect-ratio. If a Q400 can float on landing without them, imagine what a lighter Dash will do...
People say they can do better than this in a simulator.. The truth is that you can customize your wind speed, direction, visibility etc. Airline pilots land these planes in all different weathers and circumstances.. Whether you are a student with 10 hours, or a 747 captain with thousands of hours.. There are perfect landings and not so perfect landings, but any landing that is safe and you can walk away from is a good landing
Yikes! I've bounced too when I was training in on Cessna 172s. I later learned a trick: when flaring out aim the vertical speed indicator for -300fpm. Works like a charm. I'm suprised other pilots dont do this as well even though my instructors said I use the guages too much. So what? If it works use it !
I was expecting to see one of those funny Landings were the Plane's nose hits Hard(Airspeed too low for lift)so the tail hits, then the nose, then the tail...ect. until they slow down.......But I was wrong...still funny xD
Does anyone have any opinions about the mandate the senate recently passed, which makes the minimum hours for a commercial pilot 800 hours?! Plus the families of the colgan air crash are pushing for a 1,500 hour minimum. Personally I feel very sorry for the victims in the crash. But raising the minimum hours that high will cause major issues and may not even solve the problem. Pilots need more high-tech training not just hours behind the yoke. Any other views?
"URRRRBLLLGGG!!! Sorry, stewardess, I seem to have lost my lunch all over the guy in front of me. Is the captain angry at us for some reason? No? I was just curious. He seemed angry. Didn't flare, came down nose first, bounced several times like basketball being dribbled. Must be doing nose-gear stress testing then? Huh? Food poisoning? Oh, I see. He must have ate the same fish I did. BBLLUURG!!! Scuze me."
@stevenseagullWTF- i severely doubt that your friend "flies like shit" if he's operating as the captain of an airbus. Plus, I don't think its possible for him to be a capt. at his age. The issue regarding inexperienced first officers is a serious one. But make not mistake, that all pilots hired by airlines show extrodinary talent. Airlines have no way of predicting how a person will react in an emergency situation. have faith in the pilots.
The most decent reply at the time. BTW I'm a pilot myself, so i'm stating my opinion from what I see every day at the airport. And i correct my previous comment, he's not a captain but a FO. (i'm not used to the european requirements, he told me he was promoted to captain because he reached the 1500 and I bought it- my fault)
And believe me he flies like s****. He got into the airline because his father is a senior captain there.
Thank you for clarifying your comment. I still completley disagree with your comment about flying like shit. However, I do sympathize with you. I absolutley hate it when the children of exceptional pilots get a few ride to the top. While the rest struggle to make ends meet as they work their way up the ranks. Just hope its worth it in the end :)
This happens when regional airlines hire 200 hours-just recieved pilots. 18 year olds eager to make a quick buck. Fly, watch, learn, then aply for an airline!
@stevenseagullWTF it isn`t possible. TO be a PIC on airline you must to have an ATPL which means at least 21 years old and 1500 hours of total flight time!
"Ladies and gentlemen, we have crash landed the aircraft at EDMA. The toilets are open for you to clean your pants. Please remain seated while captain Jumping Bean and co-pilot Kangaroo bounces what's left of the aircraftto the gate, Thank you for flying Lufthansa Regional."
Wie gesagt; Die Dash is jetzt Geschichte. Jetzt ist's die Do328... :-( Wenigstens ust se recht "sportlich"...
Probably shouldn't have released the backpressure after the first touchdown.
