AMD Phenom II X4 940 & 920 Overview - Syndrome-O/C-TV # 17

im thinking about buying one of these even though they are going outdated probably by now i have an am2 mobo, i know i wont get the HT3 technology but is it still worth it to upgrade to a phenom II x4 920 from an athlon 64x2 6000? the phenom is 4 cores at 2.8ghz and the 6000 is dual core at 3.2ghz.....i feel like its definetly worth it cause it should almost double my performance but just not sure about the HT3 technology once again 8)

oh cool processor i have the same an 940 and it's very "cool" arround 60 degrees celsius runing at stock 3,00ghz it's processing very"fast" only 20 lines at windows boot and 5 sec right click to refresh more than 10sec on my computer it's a very "nice" processor .............i was an totaly idiot when i chossen amd oo and the rest of the pc gigabyte gam78gm-ud2h 2gb ram ati hd 2400 512 mb

60 Celcius? Thats not good! I think this is the MAX temp for this processor. My CPU is running at 3.6 with 27 C idle and 38 C load. clean your computer from dust and see if temps get better. if not, buy new FANSSSSS....

different! 60 degrees on black edition its different.. if u run it on regular chipset, then it would be problem. because it wont work properly on that degrees. But, in phenom s940 it just way different.. (i know the best chipset is Intel).. u gotta try 1st

@adyxtreme i have the phenom 2 965 3.4 ghz with a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus and it idles at 25c full load is 33c are you using a heatsink for a old athlon 64 or somthing? or is the stock cooler that bad

Definitely PHII 940 for everyday PC use. No games or other applications support 6 core CPUs, theyre designed for professional use.

depends on the needs, like if u run a software who can use all 6cores then yeah the opteron will be the thing to go for, but if u run a software who can use/see only 4cors then the Phenom 2 is the way to go! i hope this answered ur question, and if u are tinking about gaming, then the phenom will be the beter, because of most of the game engines still use only 2/1 core, well theres 2 game engines who use all four, cry engine 2, crysis, and unreal engine. :P

The AMD Phenom II X4 940 BE is just a great CPU. I used really long Intel CPU's but now... i will buy my first AMD CPU and it will be the 940 BE. I really love it. AMD strikes back with the Phenom II. Intel should be very careful. AMD rules.

940 X4 is AM2+ package, u need am2+ mobo. AM3 CPU package are for AM3/AM2+ Mobo. So u need AM2+ mobo.

I ordered the 940BE (haven't recieved it yet though) becouse I heard it good. Now after reading alot more I've gotten the impression it's good just if you overclock it. I am NOT going to overclock it since I have no experience with that. So is it a good CPU even though you don't overclock it?

Cool Video. True that it does not perform like the corei7, however for the price vs performance ratio the 940 edges over the corei7.

The better comparison would be the Phenom 2 vs Q9400. Same price range. Neck and neck in performance.

The board are already out...some of them, so I think the best choice would be this processor with an AM2+/AM3 motherboard and then when the AM3 socket CPUs come out you would have to just upgrade the CPU and that's it.

Hmm, it depends what else do you have .. (like how many HDD), but if your not doing any OC, you don't have o change your PSU.
