  • I happen to own a Flex. I get 27 miles to the gallon highway. It's the smoothest ride I've ever had in a vehicle of this size. I am VERY pleased with my purchase and wouldn't trade it back for anything. :)

  • The flex is very nice. I can barely help myself from buying one right now but im waiting till the 2010 model with the ~360hp eco boost v6 engine comes out for this. Then im buying and it will be one sick ride.

  • true, about the Flex...Most successful car companies try to move their design team towards the "sweet spot".

    Not in Ford's case. They went out on a limb, and the price of gas cut the limb off the tree....I don't fault Ford entirely, but they really should have dumped this rig...its an anchor now

  • Oh and one more thing. If Motortrend made such a good choice. Why did they pick the Honda Ridgeline as Motortrend Truck of the year. The Ridgeline is flat out the sorriest excuse of a pickup truck on the market. It is not even competetive in any truck segment by any strech of the imagination. Oh and you want to talk about ugly !!!!

  • TO be fair, I am not, nor have I ever been a friend of Motor Trend. At the end of the day, they are a publisher, and publishers need advertisers, and the auto OEMS spend the most...so Don't confuse my distaste for the Flex with any allegiance with MT. MT can suck IT.

    But, to address the Cube...I agree the wheelbase, and exaggerated bumper overhang IS a knock off from the Xb. (and to a lesser degree, the element) The unique thing about th ecube is that it is assymetric. this is a notable feat!

  • plus it's a cheap knock-off of the Scion Xb, only the engineers-in-training ran the schematics through a copier at 121% enlargement.

  • It's funny you that you way that. Becuase Nissan just came out with the Cube which is a XB knock-off. I don't hear you whinning about the cube. But just becuase the Flex is a Ford and it's an excellent vehicle. Oh it's an Over-sized XB. Face it you lost. Now you and Motortrend stop wasting my time.

  • As I said about 1 year ago on another post the diference between the Flex and the Xb is obvious, but consider this. For the price of a fully loaded Flex, you could buy 2 fully loaded Xbs, and drive them BOTH around and still use less fuel than driving the Flex. The Xb is not a luxury ride, but at $45K , neither is the Flex...LOTs of other Hi-quality SUV CUVs out there that explain why they've sold so few Flex since inception...

  • oh yeah,..one more reason the Flex didn't get MT COTY. The platform isn't new...These types of awards usually go to entirely new platforms (Chassis/Engine/Body combinations. The Flex was a new body put onto an existing Engine/Chassis(unibody) from the Edge. It's built at the Ontario plant. I think SInce it's not a new platform, the judging committee would discount that...

  • Actaually the Flex is built on the Taurus platform

  • base price of 29K with a nicely equipped version at $40K explains why these are not selling. Plus the possibility of Ford going completely out of business isn't something that potential car buying public look at favorably. Wait until 2010 when Ford adds the 4 cyl ecoboost, improves mpg numbers, and the year one bugs get worked out. Plus you'll have a better idea of whether Ford will even be around to fulfill their warranty...

  • No, the reason why the Flex is not selling is because the economy has just all but collasped. Nobody is selling any cars. Everybody is posting record breaking loses after record breaking loses. Plus the fact it really doesn't help the cause when Motortrend screws you into the ground. There is no intelligent reason why the Flex should not have been Motortrends crossover of the year. Instead they give it to the Subaru Forrester LOL !!!!!!!!! are you kidding me !!!!!!!

  • The Flex came out in July(after 18 mos. of hype), and the auto economy only really started to tank in September, so that isn't the principle reason for this car's abject failure. The reason, as I have campaigned all along, is the same reason for the Forester's rightful placement as MT COTY award...the PRICE! The Forester is 10K less base price, and more than 10K less for a fully equipped model. Ford just completely LOST it when the arrogant bean counters miscalculated the price point. Edsel II!

  • One more item. Although the auto industry IS hurting, not all are hurting equally. The trend line downward for the OEMS (that preexisted the economic downturn) has continued. If fact, if you take the overall sales drop of the foreign manufacturers and compare that to the US OEM,s they have ACCELERATED their decline. As the economy tightens, the buying public are even MORE disinclined to by crap. The reason it's not selling is because it is made by one of the cheapest brands and is priced too hi
