how do they get the back wheel out? Is it by accelerating or braking? Looking at the front forks, I would guess it's all front wheel braking and give it throttle to keep the back wheel spinning so as not to gain too much traction in it...

@TrueAiR It is quite simple. You just need to use rear brake and also front brake to reduce friction from the rear tyre. So basicly you need to brake enought with your both brakes and turn right or left..

you keep the throttle on the whole time. You want the back of the bike to keep sliding. If you let up on the throttle too much the back will catch and you WILL highside

Wrong. Rear wheel is going slower, have you actually seen supermoto in the flesh? They drift into the corner under brakes, a lot use slipper clutch as engine braking can be too much causing rear wheel to go too slow and chatter the rear wheel on the tarmac. Some nutjob stunt guys drift around sweepers under power, but the racers don't on clean tarmac.

I own two sportbikes, and one supermoto and the supermoto is by far more fun for ripping around town. Sketchy? Not at all!!! Being such light bikes they are much easier to flick into turns and getting the back-end loose is way fun!!!

Newb question to supermoto racers: why do you have to put your knee down in turns?! The bike isn't at such an extreme angle where you have to (where people are at those angles on superbikes (i.e. CBR1000RR)) Why can't they just put their foot down and maybe wear a steel shoe like for flattrack? I don't know.. I just thought it was werid they extended their knee so much where there foot would be much easier to drop.. please don't flam me.. like I said.. this is a NEWB question!!

putting your knee down in bike racing has nothing to do with extreme laen angle, its actully the opposit. you hang your body out off the bike to get as much weight into the corner as you can. this alowes you to keep the bike more upright as you go through the turn faster. putting there knee out as far as they can alowes for more weigth and balance by changing the center of gravity. when they need full lean they bring there whole body in thight to the bike, including there knees.

i think its more to do with seating position , your more upright therefore your center of gravity is different then if you were on say a streetbike

Keeping your feet on the pegs allows you to get the weight behind the back tire properly in the slide. If you put your foot down you either won't slide or won't be able to control it as well.  Remember, sliding a slick tire on pavement is a lot different than sliding in the dirt. It's all about body positioning in this, especially when you've got that back tire hanging out.
