  • Thats coming from a norwegian, btw.

  • Icelandic is fun to learn, but unfortunately it is disappearing fast. Anyone under the age of 50 there will speak English fabulously.

  • @hawkeyery No. Its a language that will never die out. The icelandics speak good english, yes. But the language is so invulnerable to the scandinavian culture and language that we cant let it die out, no one who has interest for the indo-european language tree would ever allow that to happen :P

    Mjööög ógnandi.

  • @Ulfar22 lol rétt xD

  • .. ehhh.. This doesn't help at all because she is sometimes talking in plural and sometimes not but the phrases are the same in English.

  • i swear she said phrases for disgusting entertainment at 0:007 LOL

  • hvað fékk þessi kjánalega hóra mikið borgað fyrir þetta?

  • "Where is the nearest strip club please?:-))))))))) That is one of the most important entertainment phrase you need to know when you make a trip to Iceland.

  • LoL not anymore since the government passed law on banning strip clubs, or nude strip tease just about the time you commented, a month ago;)

    @hailnick

  • @KjartanThordarson

U r serious? Lol, i didn't know that! That's funny...can't believe it.:-) Did they really banned strip clubs? So there are none left???

  • @hailnick Don't worry yourself, other nations still have strip clubs. If you're into that sort of thing.

  • @PaulSLambeth

no I am actually not!:-) I think this used to be a shame of the country so in my opinion it's good, although quite unbelievable as it used to be so "normal" and popular.

  • @hailnick Hehe ok good :) Yeah I didn't know about it myself. I'm impressed with them for doing it.

  • wow i really think this is stupid-

vá - méééér fiiiiinst þetttaaaa roooosaleeeega heeeeeeiiimskt

  • Halló

  • dont find it hard to pronounce this lang as its phonetically quite similiar to my mother tongue. but the grammar is hell of a challenge.

  • hard as hell

  • blue or big or tiny. and also there is atviksorð-fleirtölu-eintölu-núliðintíð-þáliðintíð-kennimyndirnar 5-nefnifall-þolfall-þágufall-eignarfall- and i can name up to 20 or more to just describe ONE WORD. learning icelandic and gettin a 10/10 or A+++ in a test is like extremely hard when ur in college or higher....remember 1 word can mean up to 40 or more phrases.... so dont call icelandic easy

  • icelandic/íslenska is very hard, its not like english. you have to put it up in like 7-40 phrases just for ONE word.... you have to check if its like a word you say "yesterday/today" and more like "sagnorð-nafnorð-lýsingarorð) sagnorð are the words that come after nafnorð or lýsingarorð. lýsingarorð are describetions like yellow or

  • bwahahahaha

    íslenska is not that hard!

  • færðu borgað fyrir þetta eða er þetta bara svona frístundarhobby?

  • hehe gvuuð .... þetta er kjánalegt

  • þroskaheft!

  • hey id do her

  • Haha "vill du dansa"? :)

  • íslenska er auðveld

  • Chinese has a very simple grammar, but it's impossible to pronounce , write + read for europeans.

German has the most irregular and confusing grammar I've ever heard (though I'm German).

  • heheh icelandic is way more comlicated i hear, and dutch is pretty complicated aswell, all germanic languages are complicated

  • chinese is veeeery simple...

You just have to memorize hanzis and memorize the pronounce (+ tones)... and you speak chinese...

    =]

  • As a bilingual user of both Chinese and English I would say Chinese might not be as "easy" as you think.

Yes, Chinese has one of the simplest grammar system among all languages. But speaking chinese is another thing. it's more than just "memorizing" the pronunciation and the tones, especially the tones. dude let me tell you if you just "memorize" the tones then your pronunciation must be pretty bad. you have to "realize" it naturally and it's really hard if you are not a native speaker.

  • Comment removed

  • I agree with you about german. I'm swedish having a german test tomorrow and let me just say,- no offence, that I fucking hate your grammar. It's soooo complicated :(

  • the iclandic Language is epic

  • Yes, it is.

  • yes is já (yao) and no is nei (ney)

  • what is, 'yes' and ,'no' in icelanic anyone please (pleas right actual spelling then the pronuciation next) ty alot peeps

  • haha nice þetta er örugglega erfitt fyrir útlendingana að læra :)

  • Ég er sammála!

  • there are some words that are the same in italian... I know that this is not a latin language, but it's anyway strange to hear :S

  • icelandic trys to be a uniqe language and its not similar to italian or spanish. its most similar to old norse which doesnt even exist anymore

  • i didn't say that it's similar to italian, i said that there are some words that are similar

  • you could say that Icelandic is old Norse since it has hardly changed at all.

  • Faeroese is old norse. Icelandic is slightly changed (except for the th runes)

  • oh okay...

  • So is Faroese.

  • think you should look "icelandic" up on wiki. :P

  • i don't speak english and i didn't understand what she said after "may i...?" (in "viltu dansa"....) help?

  • she said "where can we go to dance?"

  • she said "May I have this dance?"

  • Keep it up! It's nice to hear slow pronunciation for once, to hear where it all goes wrong for me when they speak fast..

And having to use the past participle after 'geta' I can just never get used to!!!

  • I'm Icelandic, and this is very nice, using natural language, to the point and would not cause any confusion. Kudos on a good compilation regarding entertainment :)

    - Of course everyone understands english, so this isn't really needed, but if you're strange enough to want to use the language, then go for it.

  • Your language and country intrigues me for some reason. I guess it has to do with the fact that it's so isolated from the rest of the world and has an intrinsic uniqueness about itself.

  • and also it's regarded as the hardest language to learn...so haha

  • Comment removed

  • well aparantly icelandic is the hardest...chinese was second...and turkish was up there

  • Chinese is not hard!

Dutch, Finnish, Estian and Hungarian are the 4 most difficultest languages in the World, really lot's of language-proffessors out all of the world say that, and know that! :)

  • Estian? Do you mean Estonian?

    Dutch is NOT even close

"The Foreign Service Institute (FSI) of the US Department of State has compiled approximate learning expectations for a number of languages. Of the 63 languages analyzed, the five most difficult languages to reach proficiency in speaking and proficiency in reading (for native English speakers who already know other languages), requiring 88 weeks, are: "Arabic, Cantonese, Mandarin, Japanese, Korean", with Japanese being the most difficult."

  • Actually I think the idea of "the hardest language to learn" is quite weird. but when you provide the statistic evidence for native English speakers (or other native speakers) it makes more sense.

As a bilingual user of both Chinese and English which are two languages without much crazy grammar, I constantly hear people telling me how crazy Chinese or English is. but for me, learning their languages such as French really kills me (although I'm still very interested in learning these languages).

  • yeh...But I think anyone who is not native can actually speak like a native... The language is a reflection of the culture of a nation... A native can understand how the language works... And if the culture is not similar... A foreigner can never understand it...

And the tones are not so difficult... Of course... If you think the chinese language, because the grammar or etc, is not difficult and it's just memorize the words and tones, and take it all and put it into a phrase (...)

  • you'll be so stupid with this kind of thought...

When I said the Chinese language is just a memorization of words and tones, I did not want to offend anybody... I said it because the chinese language are not as a Icelandic language, for example. Declensions, conjugations, irregularities and etc...

Me too i think the idea of "the hardest language to learn" is quite weird... But I think the Icelandic is the hardest... the icelandic language have a written that did change just a (...)

  • little bit since the 13th century... And is so common the practice of neologism...

I'm a bilingual use of both Japanese and Portuguese...

The japanese grammar is not difficult than portuguese, but people cannot understand it very well...

  • i very much would like to meet these "professors". i don't know anybody who thinks these are the top 4 hardest in the world.

and also, difficulty depends on what your native tongue is. if you speak spanish, portugese is much easier to learn than if you speak vietnamese and are trying to learn portugese.

you should really re-think that statement.

  • As it said, those are for english speakers.

  • Your just a flat out fucking idiot.

Have fun being a retard for the rest of your life.

  • Dutch is very very close to German, so it's easy to learn (at least to understand) for Germans, though they never do - but most Dutch people speak German, too.

  • from my experience from living in holland people THINK they can speak german but when you ask them to it sounds hilarious...

  • @LithingGrint

*lol* - same with me, when I'm in Holland, I try to speak dutch, but they always grinn and answer in German.

  • Dutch and Finnish are probably the easiest. I haven't a clue on what your talking about...

  • well sorry but Icelandic has been label'd the hardest for a long time. No doubt Chinese is hard, but just saying.

  • i'm chinese...i found icelandic harder....much harder.....it's fucked up....

  • i'm learning both, and they're just different. icelandic is easy as an english speaker because it's similar, and thus less memorization, but icelandic is still hard because they use noun declension way more often than english.

  • exactly! im sending you an invite XD

  • @RasputinaMan I wouldn't say Icelandic is simple for an English speaker. Maybe the pronunciation and some vocabulary are quite easy but the grammar is very difficult to those unaccustomed to four cases, three genders, odd pluralisation, and numerous inflections depending on each.

However with a small knowledge of the stems of Icelandic you can read the language reasonably well. The same doesn't apply for articulating it correctly. I'm English and finding it difficult but VERY enjoyable.

  • well after knowing icelandic..learnign english wouldnt really be a task for u guys!!!:P

  • это писец

  • is köku cock in islendsk? kuk på svensk what is cock in german and dutch?

  • I don't know why you need to know that, but in Dutch it's "lul" and in German it's "Schwanz" I believe ;)

  • Nei, det er kake :p

  • kake? på vilket språk? inte att förväxla med kaka eller båda går å äta.

  • På norsk. "kaka" på svenska og "cake" på engelsk, for eksempel sukkulaðiköku :D

  • weird languiage

  • so is english, believe me.

  • You may want to put phonetic pronunciations. Also, when I taught myself spanish I found these great posts from Hablame TV. They basically have videos and explain the scenes in spanish only...they put the spanish subtitles at the bottom. Helped me to learn to "hear" the spanish and then look up the words I didn't know.
