  • A classic theme. They just don't do it like this anymore. They don't even bother trying.

  • I wonder if King Mabel(Viscera, Big Daddy V, wrestling fans know who I'm talking about), got his name from Mabel King... hmmmm.

  • By today's standards, Rerun and Shirley are normal-sized.

  • 911 isnt americas biggest problem........711 is......

  • one of many henry mancini classics here!

  • Ahh the old days when a grape soda at Rob's could solve any problem and you could pay off your sister Dee with a quarter

  • After this, Bud Yorkin went on to produce the visually stunning film 'Blade Runner'. To me, the connection is obvious.

  • @MadHighway well, they're both set in LA.

  • @wallofvideo

It's a little-known fact, but Bud Yorkin wanted Fred Berry to play Deckard. Fred lost out to Harrison Ford. More's the pity.

  • Hemphill?! 0_o ... Hemp...Hill? Im tired ignore me please ;)

  • love this show. back when tv wasnt really risque or dirty but could still be hilarious

  • Thought there was an extended version of this, showing Rerun actually running after the truck.

  • @angelfish1991 you're right, there was.

  • Haha, this was suggested to me in a The Happening video.

  • Mabel King was so pretty! I love her in this, The Jerk AND The Muh Fucking Wiz!

  • Shows like this Sanford and Son, The Jeffersons, Good Times was my only look into the life of African Americans as a kid. I grew up in a racist family and it pissed off my Grandfather to no end knowing my mother let me watch these sitcoms. Only imagine how he respond to half our family now being interracial. Old school did have its pitfalls. I have black Aunts, Uncles, Nephews, Nieces, cousins, brothers. All the more better too. Racism didn't only come from our side at first. Power of love :)

  • @Raven7176 Ha! I'm half Irish, half Black and my Irish grandma was one racist bitch. Even though I really believe she loved me, she was so rude and bigoted towards my mom, even though it was my dad, her Irish son, that ran out on us. But she actually helped my mom out, unlike my dad, because she was able to see clearly enough not to reject me. But I will never forgive her for the ways she treated my mom.

What a sad woman she was!! Anyway, stay strong! We're the future of America! And the world!

  • @Raven7176 now that you say that, i'm wondering, have there been any black/white couples or families on tv since helen & tom willis on "the jeffersons"? or have any tv sitcoms or dramas ever featured a couple consisting of a Black man paired with a white woman? i haven't watched much post-80s tv, but offhand i can't think of any examples.

  • @wallofvideo Only one I can think of was in the South Park episode "Cow Days"

  • i'd bet a dollar every member of the cast lives ended bad. You know, like every other typical you know what...

  • @latka101 You mean the way your life is ending you stupid fuck. Stop projecting; your bigotry is showing cunt.

  • I love this tune!!!

  • I was just watching "Life After" on TV One about (Dr.) Danielle "Dee" Spencer. Unlike most child stars (back in the day), she went on to get an education, and is now a vet.

  • I watched this show all the time as a kid, yet I can't recall a single episode. I need to go back and watch them again.

  • I love this show i use to record this on my VCR but i left them back in new jersey now i live in texas

  • The Cosby Kids minus Fat Albert. :p

  • @AllieRX87

An' dat be da Cosby Keeds in da hood at dat! SHEET!!

  • This is what's happening!

  • Love this shooww! It had to be like one of the funniest 70s show out there. Good Times, although a classic, was corny and Lamar on Sanford & Son irritated me lol. The other shows were good too, but this one is just the best!

  • From "Moon River," to "The Pink Panther," to "What's Happening," Henry Mancini rocks!!!

  • I made a mix CD once, put a ton of Al Green, Marvin Gaye, Barry White, and this song almost in the very back of the selected playlist. My girlfriend and I were getting "hot and heavy" one night, and right in the middle of it all, this song came on and my girlfriend just looked at me and said, "WHAT THE FUCK?" Thinking about doing the same thing with the Sesame Street theme.

  • HAYWOOD JABLOWME NELSON!!!

so THATS where that joke started!

  • I used to watch this all of the time when I was a kid. It was funny.

  • Tragic!

  • Tribute to Vince Montana Jr and the Salsoul Orchestra Next week on Open House Radio your only source for 70s and 80s dance Music

  • HEY HEY HEY

  • Cleveland chasing after the car in Family Guy haha

  • When I was younger I always thought that Heywood Nelson was Q-Tip for some reason. Am I alone in this?

  • How did i get here from Nicholas Cage punching women?!?!?

  • R.I.P. Fred Berry

  • @Immortal1000 what? fred berry is dead?!?!?!?

  • @agnisflugen Fred Berry died in 2003.

  • @Immortal1000 oh, i didn't know :( he was a cool dude...

  • Fred Barry is great

  • grape sodas for everyone!

  • Man..I used to think Re-run was a fat ass when I was a kid. Now I go into wal-mart and look around...Holy Jumping shitballs!

  • @danieljh just remember sometimes the answer is right in front of you.I suspect the new generation is fat thanks mostly to wal mart.

  • @danieljh Don't tell me he's a model, dude, explain.. O_o

  • @danieljh roflmao Holy shit! I've never laughed so hard at a Youtube comment before!

  • @danieljh =)) Rerun was skinny by today's standards. If they made that movie today, he'd be bigger than the black dude in Old School.

  • @danieljh Everyone is a Re-run now

  • Lol mr Omar frm everybody hates Chris

  • The best episode was the one where mama caught all the guys shootin' dice on the floor. Classic.

  • The funniest episode I ever saw of "What's Happening" was when the L. A. Dream Team made an appearance on the show, and beforehand, Raj and Duane was trying to rap. Listening to Raj and Duane trying to rap was just too much!

  • Wow did Henry Mancini really compose this music???

  • @haroof He sure did. That man was a genius! His version is a little longer and had a harmonica solo.

  • 0:37 Hey hey hey! It's faaaaat Shirley!

  • i like that..boung, boung, boung lol

  • This opening reminds me of those people that died at Jonestown.

  • "For D right price!"

  • omg i about peed my pants laffing when i read the patton oswald comment

  • lol i use to love this show

  • the intro song is the bomb

  • intro was the shit someone sample this!!! : D

  • Mama had some big boobies!!!!

  • Haywood Jablome

  • its fun to remember

  • this is so cheesy it isn't even funny, oh wait, yes it is!

  • i think ernest thomas had a small role on "roots." and mabel king was sometimes one of the judges on the "gong show." but i don't remember seeing any of the other "what's happening" actors on any other 70s tv shows. they were all very talented, so i'm not sure why they didn't get more roles.

  • @wallofvideo Danielle Spencer became a Vet. Haywood Nelson is a Computer Consultant. Ernest Thomas worked with Spike Lee on several of his Movies. Fred Berry, Mabel King, and Shirley Hemphill are all dead. Here's another fun fact. This show was based on a Movie called Cooley High that Steve Krantz produced in 1975 that was called The Black American Graffiti. Also, Steve's Wife is Romance Novelist Judith Krantz (Princess Daisy), and he had the chance to do Grease but changed his mind.

  • @wallofvideo Also, Cooley High Harmony was the name of The Debut Album by Boyz To Men and what I loved about this show was that it showed that there was a time where South Central LA was a safe Blue Collar Lower Middle Class Community.

  • @wallofvideo very small he was one of the young tribesman with young Kunta Kinte, about to be circumsized and learning to be men

  • 8 people never could figure out what was happening

  • This looks like they were in the adams district of los angeles. Borderline Western, Washington ave, La Brea and Adams blvd

  • @igfromthe323 thanks for posting that!!! I've been looking forever to try to find where this is in real life. I wonder if that house is still there?

  • "Oooooh......I'm tellin' Mama!" LMAO!!!! XD

  • @themostrandomchick24 Haha Or the classic stuff like "Mama I can't breathe!" You can't forget Dwaynes classic

Rerun: So you like the idea Dwayne

    Dwayne: Uh Huh

Rerun: So you want money too

    Dwayne: Uh Huh

Rerun: It's settled then, you will go talk to him for us

    Dwayne: Unh un!

    Hahaha

  • hahahaha I remember my mother combing my hair in the same style as the little girl running down the stairs(Dee Thomas)....wow. memories.

  • Wouldnt the title have question marks instead of exclamation marks seeing that it is a question? XD Wish they would show the reruns, this was a cool show. =D

  • Nice blue 1964-66 Ford Mustang in Duane's driveway. Also, what was a nice black Rolls Royce doing, driving by at 0:33? Was that the Mafia? lol :)

  • I watched this show in prison, it was quiet funny,,,, till 10;00 pm.

  • @lunchmeat400 i'm glad you out! dont ever go back okay

  • how how how

  • What WAS happening?

  • @SethMcFartlane that's just it nothing was happening. that was the beauty of thing's back then. i gues you had to be around to see what im talking about, they were awesome time's!!!

  • It's sort of weird seeing people being open to hitchhiking, let that happen today and it be on CNN, HLN, FOX, MSNBC, and other news network of some missing teenagers....guess things have changed.

  • I remember as a kid, my friends and I doing the basketball part of this on the sidewalk of my neighborhood. Why does adulthood have to suck so much compared to childhood?

  • Henry Mancini wrote this theme song.

  • @bfnputz

I remember Henry Mancini being mentioned by Edith Bunker on "All in the Family". Oh the memories!

  • lol i remember roger, now he plays mr. omar on everybody hates chris: "tragic, TRAGIC"

  • Miss this show

  • The times in the video definitely seemed like a great time to be a kid.

  • @ravensfan222008 IT SOOO WAS!! I'm glad I was born into generation X. The TV back then was fun and good!

  • @mct1967

  • ahh how times have changed......hitchhiking ??...you'll never see that on a t.v. show opening now....

  • "The episode when Rog was dancing was priceless!"

  • Wow. That made me horny.

  • This show was awesome! The cracks and putdowns by Dee & Shirley were HA larious! My favorite episode when the Doobie Brothers made a guest appearance and Rerun was trying to bootleg the show and got so excited he started dancin' and this big ol boombox fell out of his coat BUSTED!! But it all turned out ok by the end of the episode ...how come TV shows don't have tidy endings anymore???

  • Hey, hey, hey!!

  • I love this show and I am a 15 year old white male. lol

  • @MegamanGregarBeast

Well young man, you are clearly kick ass.

  • @IAmJerkingOff Oh yeah! I love all of those old shows! I even own a bunch of DVDs of them!

  • i wanna see rerun dance : )

  • Damn...this was the SHOW!!! If you grew up in the 70`s you had to love this....it`s funny how this was LA... and the Crips and Bloods was good and DEADLY right about this time...

  • Roger......give me your belt

Real Whats Happenin fans know what im talking bout! lmao

  • @IAmJerkingOff i liked the show but not the shoe

  • This aired the same year I was born. Wow. Brings back memories of life when times were easier and simpler. Though it was mostly my family that watched it back then (because I was so young), brings back good memories. I bought the complete series Box Set of this. : )

  • I loved this show..hay hay hay...

  • even Chuck Norris may fear Mabel King when she is in a really bad mood!

  • these were the original gangsters right here

  • yes what's happening...omg...by far one of my all time fav shows coming up as a kid...i remember it all the famous Rerun..hahaha...

  • Shirley and Mama were "Baby Got Back" 15 years before it was fashionable!

  • "Mama?" "What, honey?" "I Can't BREATHE!" I just read this show was on between 1976 and 1979. It seems it was on quite a bit longer than that...

  • Love this show growing up in the CPT

  • Why am I just now noticing when Rerun came out he was holding a glass of grape kool-aid

  • @Down2EarthNik84 no he did not?? hahahahaha this is why this is my FAVORITE show of all time xD

  • @Down2EarthNik84

how do u know its Kool Aid ??

  • @nevawrong okay it could be grape soda....purple passion???? who knows for sure????

  • haywood nelson has a bodacious booty! yummmm!!!

  • Wow this is the 1`st time ive ever seen the ''entire' intro:... man , leave it to youtube to give it justice'.

  • Another one of my favorite shows!

  • This has got to be one of my all-time faves!!! And I couldn't believe that the guy who composed this was the same fella who wrote such themes as "Peter Gunn," "Mr. Lucky," "NBC Nightly News," "Romeo and Juliet" and so many others: Henry Mancini, a versatile, amazing genius!

  • Thumbs up if you hate annoying ads.

  • @IAmJerkingOff On Mabel King!?! Faaaaarrrr Ouuuuuuut!

  • I am NOT related to Norman Lear by the way, the creator / producer, whatever. And by the way Ernest "Raj" Thomas, I do have a sister the same name as your TV wife (Nadine)

  • I hated Dee. I thought she was a bitch. According to TV Guide's poll she and Nellie Oleson were the most hated girls on television during that era.

  • @bigpopparamma Dee was quite sarcastic, though she DID get some good lines, like about a wino who wanted to rent a room from the Thomases. :I steered him to the front door, he took one look at the outside, and moved in."

  • Danille Spenser was SExy & HOT!

  • You should have seen the football game! Rerun was all over the field!

    What'd he do? Lay down?

  • Dont nobody bring me no bad news , no bad news, no bad news. I didn't realize the mother was the witch on the movie The Wiz. Wow they really made her look ugly on that movie. She was a beautiful lady on this show though. lol

  • killer theme

  • this makes blacks look human

  • This music is simultaneously horrible and awesome.

  • 6 ppl dont kno whats happenin

  • how much did rerun weigh?

  • "Which Doobie you be?"

  • i LOVEd this show when it WAS on tv...they took all the good shows off...

  • I just worked with Mr. Nelson this past summer in the play "Built On A Lie". He's a wonderful actor! He's so down to earth, humble, kind and sweet! I learned so much from him and his costar D'Atra Hicks! I hope to work with the both of them again in the future!

  • Wow , this takes me back. Big Thumbs up.

  • i love it when family guy did it habahahahahahaha

  • I'll never forget the episode.........NO ROGER NO RERUN NO RENT!!!

  • @neuregel LOL! Damn I wish someone would post that on here too! I like the episode when Shirley quits her job and works in an office. HILARIOUS. I don't know the name of the episode, but Shirley was too funny!!!

  • This sounds like video game music for some reason. Like Wario Land.....

  • Best theme song ever.

  • I loved this show.Classic 70's:)))

  • HENRY MANCINI!

  • There's no audio.
