Ah, Marc's version. I love this guy, awesome music and awesome podcast as well. This guy is responsible for introducing me to Irish music, awesome listening.
Well covered song. I throughly enjoy Marc's interpretation here. Hard to compare with others as Marc has done this in his own way. Brilliant!! - does not need any other instruments or voices.
Just curious, what's your main objection to it? The lack of a fiddle and/or the way it's sung? I must confess that I had never conceived of this song before without a fiddle but this version seems alright but not traditional, as you say.
I'm a member of the Scouts, and this song is translated (except the chorus) in german.
It's one of my favorite songs. In german it calls "Julisonnenschein". I love this song ;-)

This has an American feel to it. I know Marc is American but you'll never beat the Irish, try The Wolfe Tones' version

It is an Auto Harp, actually. Marc Gunn is the harper in the group Brobdingnagian Bards.

It's nice, but you should hear the version from the Serbian band Orthodox Celts. They are known for playing great Irish music...

A stellar performance; Note: A few years ago about early 90s (I think) I used to listen to this gem recorded by the Chieftains round and round.
