It seems to me like 50 was willing to change in order to be successful. Bang Em wasn't willing to change, so he became a liability to 50. He said himself that 50 tried to warm him about changing his lifestyle, but he clearly didn't listen.

He gave Smurf a chance by letting him run with him initially, but it seems like all he would have done is drag him down. 50 wanted to leave the drama behind. That meant leaving Smurf behind. I don't blame him.
