One of the BEST horn sections if not the BEST in music history with a TRUE ROCK band. Amazing. This is a TRUE rock band. Fuck the Roch n Roll Hall hall of fame they should have their own Hall. Chiocago out classes all of the other bands combined -- that includes the Beatles Aerosmith, Stones, Floyd, Rush, Kansas, Kiss and Others.
This was CHICAGO at their finest, the Chicago I grew up to and attended the concerts of. For those who remain and those they have brought aboard, they are still a very great band, but just not the Chicago that I loved from the 70's.
Thanks for the high def post...in many ways Chicago V was the high mark for these guys. Cetera's ballad period was still years in the future and Kath was still rippin' the Ray Charles vocals with the Hendrix leads. Lamm was coming up with incredible songs as well. I've never diss'ed them for anything they've done post Kath as I know it was total survival for their career's.
Great video and song! Thanks for posting! The seven original members of Chicago have the most musical talent ever assembled in one band. Never received the credit they deserved. How is it possible for them not to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! Totally unbelievable! There will never be another one like them.
This song is probably my favorite horn piece of their whole catalogue. The Coltrane-ish solo by Walter was amazing!! It helped my get turned on to my father's jazz record collection, and I've been into it like crazy since!
I couldn't get enough of these guys! From 1970 to about 1975, went to at least ten of their concerts. The first being at the Steel Pier in AC - Summer of 1970. These guys were NEVER on TV back then! NEVER! You either had to buy their albums or you had to buy tickets for their concerts!
They never appeared on routine musical shows (Midnight Special) but Chicago has several televisions specials of their own. The primetime Chicago in the Rockies and also Meanwhile Back At The Ranch. Their own New Year's Eve Special in '74 was also very cool.
Excellent example of just how powerful Chicago was with its original band line up, featuring Terry Kath & Pete Cetera!! They both made an incredible difference in all of the music!!
Long live the legend of Terry Kath's awesome guitar work & vocals.......
Love this chorus. Nice job Sopranoppc for having it for us to enjoy. Chicago is one of my favorite bands that can never be replaced. Think about it,,,,, there is no other groups ever... like them. One of a kind.
Love That chorus !! Love the different dynamics in this song.Amazing original material...Rhino or the band themselves should revisit the plan to release of that "Scrapbook" DVD !!!!
My first time to see this awesome live performance of one of 3 favorite tunes from Chicago V (1972), the other 2 being "All is Well" and "Goodbye". This song was composed by trombonist James Pankow. Kudos for this upload!
This is super. The level of instrumentation is awesome as well as the lead and group vocals. I especially like Pete, Bobby and Terry singing together. Awesome.
I dismissed the idea of supergroup back then ...now I know what they meant! Crikey! Will we ever see such creativity and musicianship in one ensemble ever again?
Ahh, takes me back to my youth when I stood right in front of these guys while they played. Miss the old Chicago, but I'm thankful I can revisit them in this way.
I'm left ABSOLUTELY SPEECHLESS by this clip... MY Chicago in all of their SHINING GLORY that CANNOT be duplicated.. We don't have Terry or Peter or Danny now...
Man oh Man what can you say about Chicago that hasn't already been said a thousand times already. Loved em in high school in the 70's and still love em today.
But I fully agree with the other posts here, there will never be another Terry Kath. RIP
"Was it years ago , or just a day ?" Chicago in their prime. there NEVER will be another Terry Kath. that being said, let's enjoy the hell out of what we have here in video form.
All members coming together as one cohesive unit. First I get focused on Danny's brilliant drums, then Terry's vocals and guitar commands attention. Lamm's keyboards are great and suddenly at 2:50, as you're amazed by the horns, you notice that Cetera is a great bass player. This song has it all. Great performance.
All those clowns (wannabees) that just wrapped up the latest season of American Idol should watch this band to see what real musicians are really like.
man o man....talk about doin it right live.....This was an amazing performance. Back in those days 69-76...These guys were the best cohesive touring unit in the business. Like Danny told me: "Don't resent what they have become, Just remember how good it used to be" and brother they were pretty damn good.
I agree, V is one of the best Chicago albums. I bought the LP in 72 and as a drummer I've always loved the Danny Serphine intro to this song. I need this video and all the other classic era stuff on YouTube!!!!!
What a great Chicago song. One of my all-time favorites. It was on the jukebox of this crappy bar I used to work in back in '72, and I'd put it on and really crank it to help clear the bar at closing time. They couldn't
I bought the Chicago V CD reissue in Dec '04 and it has been in my car since. Going on 3 years in the car. "Now That You've Gone" loud, with windows all the way up!!!

DerGrenzgaenger 3 years ago
It occurs to me that Terry Kath is to Chicago what Keith Moon was to "The Who".
Roger Daltrey of "The Who" often referred to Keith's drumming as a steam engine powering the band's sound.
Btw this is one of their best live performances.
Much in the same way Terry Kath's constant power strumming on his guitar was an immense driving force in this original line up's sound.
