  • @ArtificialPanda0 But can't read the video description...

  • man this actually turned out an amazing song. I'd straight up give you a record deal if I had moneys lol

  • Heavens Theme song.

  • friggin sweet!

  • where can i find ur music

  • GOOOOOOOD SHIT

ever heard of hikaru tsunematsu aka CDR

  • Sounds a bit like an old Vektordrum song, but, it's still nice!

  • great shit dude!! well done.

  • on my padKontrol with ableton, I can't have 2 different loops playing at once.. like if i have a pad with a synth loop on it and another pad with a drum loop, i can't make both of them play at the same time... do you know how to fix that??

  • @elliotmersch using sampler or drum kit? if sampler, you might need to set the global 'max voices' parameter up. If it's set at 1 voice you can only play one sample at a time.

  • you are really good! you amazed me!

  • That was fucking amazing bro.....

  • mmm awesome:)!

    smart and ravy

  • wow pls make a tutorial :)

  • does anyone know how to get dblue glitch to work with ableton

  • step 1: download it and extract it

step 2: put it in your vst's folder

step 3: search for new vst's in the preferences on ableton

step 4: click on it in the side bar

    hope this helps a bit.

  • thanks buddy worked great

  • how do you get the drum tracks to play instantly instead of having them come on the beat?

  • up the top in ableton on the same little bar as where play stop and record buttons are there is a little drop down list which is set to 1 bar by default. change it to "none." Or just press cltr+0.

  • i love this song, do you know any sites where i can get drum samples like yours??

  • there pretty easy to make, its hard to find good ones cuz they really need to be made custom to individual tracks. do you have a DAW like logic, protools or ableton?

  • i have ableton but havent given it a proper go yet. atm i just use battery and reason

  • cool, really what you can do is turn your midi drums into an audio track, just do a seperate bounce or bus them to a new track. cut a 16th note/8th note or whatever note out of it and copy and past it a few times one after the other, there some tutorials online, very cool effect

  • ah nice would you do that on battery or ableton?

  • i havent used battery but im pretty sure ableton does it (i havnt used ableton in years). record your drum sequences in ableton bounce them to disk and import the .wav file of the drums. if i remember correctly its fairly simple to do in ableton, not 100% sure tho

  • Any where I could get a copy of this tune? Email me if so, timharcourtpowell @ g mail . com

  • this is so amazing. do you have a myspace? or any recordings available for download?

  • They really do.. My volume pads have completely failed and I have a lot of hardware issues. Ahh, I thought HP was better!

  • hey how did you sync the padkontrol with ableton?

  • Beautiful! Lately I've been a little discouraged with Ableton Live and started using Logic and FLstudio instead. Perhaps I'll give live another try.

  • this is really impressive. it is actually what i want to start doing. i have a lot of questions about Live, so it would be really cool if you could help me answer some of them. do you have a myspace or anything for your music where i can contact you?

  • I'm considering buying this thing, but i'm wondering do i get any program included in the package, or do i have to buy it seperatly and if so, what program is recommended for the Korg Padkontrol?

  • u get a version of reason and ableton live with it free, if this is the kind of thing you are hopening to do with it then ableton is definately what u wanna be using

  • THATS REALLY COOL, i also have the same laptop as you

  • im considering getting one. is it easy to use as a just starting producer with ableton? and i want to idealy make electro and hardstyle

  • Hey, I'm from Australia and I bought my padKONTROL so it didn't come with any software because I'm outside the US. Anyone have any advice on what software I should buy? I'll be using that padkontrol mainly for synths but percussion also and I'm running a 2.16ghz Macbook. Any advice would be awesome. Thank you.

  • so do you like pc for ableton?

    im switching to an hp.

  • That one I was using died a violent death. Overheated and fried the graphics chip- refused to even turn on. I had to run out and buy a dell a couple days before a show I had.

Been happy with it. Dell Studio XPS 13"

  • lame!

    im getting a hp dv4 portable, 14.1"

dont know why the extra "point one" was added. Its nice, doesnt heat up and happy it doesnt have transport touch controls on top, just volume.

does ableton live 7, not suite, come with good instruments bundled?

did you upgrade to 8 yet? heard its buggy.

  • I'm using 8 now and it's running far more stable for me than 7 did.

  • is it the suite version, or flat out?

  • i got my padkontrol with out any software, i had to send a way for it !!

  • hey, can somebody help me? Idk how to set up my padkontrol in Ableton Live. I did it in Reason without any problems, but I have no idea how to do it in Live. Thanks

  • is this a digitalism sample?

  • .....holy shit! :O

    thats exactly ma kinda song!

    must get a padkontrol!

  • mann im ordering my padkontrol tomorow, how long did it take you to get this good man, and any tips on learning how to use the amen break and stuff.

    nice one mate x

  • sounds nice man. its inspired me to buy a padkontrol too. but kann anyone show me a link to learn more about the native mode? thx

  • Check out Stray411 Youtube channel and his website, tons of info

  • Nice amens btw 5*

  • beautiful!

  • this is still one of my favorite vids

it inspired me to get my own padkontrol and really get at it

    thanks bud!

  • Hey, guys pls help me out. I just got my pad control and I have my laptop handy. I just installed the driver cd that came with my padCtrl. What else do I need? Do i need softwares like reason, ableton , fruityloops etc like i saw on another post? Tell me what i need to be able to make insane beats.

  • get ableton live its the bomb with a pd kontrol.

  • yeah, you need some software. you pk should have come with a disk with ableton LE and reason adapted. use one of those

  • this is tight. what did you use to get the main melody?

  • Yeah dude, the line is sweeeeet

  • nice experemen (=

  • Ok so i just ordered my padkontrol, and im wondering where to start, obviously ive got the laptop and what not, any other sugestions, this is the most n00b comment possible so be gentle.

  • Well first, roll yourself a nice blunty, this shit can get complicated, gotta have that inspiration, but since this padkontrol isnt necessarily an intstrument in itself, it can be used as any instrument you can think of, as long as you have the proper software, i use reason 4, ableton live 8, and fruityloops 8 which all are recording and producing software.

  • then download all your software, well just hit me up for the rest lol, i dont wanna hog this mans comment space.

  • yes! dbglitch is a great vst if you know how to use it, most of the people i've seen using they just ad some randome patterns, and it sounds cool (since the vst is cool enought to make it sound cool) but it takes really good taste i belive, to know when and how to use it...in many ways, from soft beats to insane brain damagin' chops chops! Congrats with the tune.

  • ooaaachh ;] greetings from Poland :}

  • Comment removed

  • how can you controll drums like at o:49 ?

  • Creating different clips that are just different slices of the drum break.

  • then assign the sliced clips to a pad.

  • zaktysoe says:

Can i ask, what synth vst are you using at 1:09, it sounds great?

    +1

  • That is the Operator fm synth built into Ableton Live.

  • thanks man, keep rockin'!

  • Nice :D

  • cool John Lennon Shades! haha

  • Nevermind, i just read the comments and saw that you used operator. Nice work.

  • Really good video dude.

Can i ask, what synth vst are you using at 1:09, it sounds great?

    Thanks.

  • Not bad mad props. Is that an 8bit plugin you're using?

  • i h8 that dblue glitch plugin......no offense its like breakcore ramen add boiling amen and let it sit for three minutes

  • A good friend of mine uses it very well. It all depends on how you use it.

  • i think he meant it does too much of the work for you

  • Agreed.

  • it's great ;D

  • Sick man :)

  • aghh, that's awesome. reminds me of Tycho.

  • that was real dope man

    good work.

  • feeling very good with breaks :)

  • sick fucking rythim bro

  • Respect! Man u rock!

  • great track ;]

  • dblue glitch takes no skill at all, id like to see something more inventive.

  • While I completely agree, I might also say that it is not technical accomplishment or complexity that inspires the hearts and minds of people.

  • im not saying you are not inspired and that it has to be tech but dblue is so cheap to use its not even funny.

  • I just got my padkontrol. And I already installed Ableton live 7. Can you give me a step by step tutorial on how to connect these 2? :)

  • Hey Ohotis, i love your demo hear. Is this the ableton live version that came with the pad, or are you experienced at using ableton? I don't understand ableton, where did you get your breaks and synths? :)

  • No, this was the full version of Live that I had. It was the first or second time I used it- I prefer to record in Cubase. Live never really stuck with me.

The break is just a downloaded mp3 of the Amen break. The synths were written with the Operator instrument that comes with Ableton.

  • live is a little difficult, but it is so much easier than renoise even to make break core. I just don't know where the slicer, i just have been playing with the looper and switching up one pattern into a bunch of different rhythms.

But with the pad kontrol in ableton, do you assign each pad a different clip?

  • I kind of prefer trackers for more 'breakcore' style chopping of drums, feels more precise.

Something like this in the video almost feels like 'cheating'.

Yeah- what I did was just select part of the loop and paste it into a new clip. I liked this because I could still use quantization while I play and every clip would cut each other off.

In more recent versions of live you can right click a clip and there is like a "slice to new drum rack" option or something. Sorry if that's vague.

  • my last question for you :)

with the padkontrol, do you get reason adapted, ableton live lite and such?

could i use the ableton that comes with the padkontrol, and get the same effect as you in your video? or do i have to get my own effect vst's? its not big deal, im going to throw windows on my mac and use tweak bench.

  • The drum break is a famous break called the 'Amen' break. Google it and welcome the education!

  • dude, i know what the amen break is. I use renoise, but im playing with ableton.

I asked him where he got his samples.

  • Does anyone know the settings he used? I have a padkontrol and ableton.

  • Top row triggers individual drum hit clips.

Second row first button triggers a full loop of the break, other three buttons trigger melody lines on and off.

The bottom two rows are were for switching through sequences in the 'glitch' plugin with the bottom left most pad going into a blank pattern so it doesn't effect the sound at all.

Left knob controlled distortion, right controlled filter.

  • Thanks so much dude.

  • Wow top stuff. Thanks!

  • I was only a minute in and I was like "FAVORITE!" Effing sick man. The drum programming definitely makes this track.

  • 50 sec. for me lol

  • Pretty friggin sweet man. One thing: The drums came in a little too subtle the first and second time. I think you tune demanded a little bit more an explosive intro for the drums. None the less, great friggin tune.

  • The clip that you're using... Is it based off of the Amen drum break? It sounds pretty familiar.

  • I don't know how you haven't gone crazy after reading some of the more stupider comments "linkin parkish" "how do I use glitch" ... X|

  • Haha.

The comments are one thing- the flood of private messages is another.

  • すごい!

  • that was pretty sick

i just bought a padKONTROL but just like thousands of other people im lost.

shit is way more complicated then i thought

  • How are you using the same pad to both trigger and stop a clip?

How do you add in those single drum hits without recording them over the rhythm played before them?

  • you are what i've aspired to be for years

jesus fucking christ this is amazing

  • yeh....glitch is a pretty cool vst huh ;)

  • Cool!.. very nathan fake-ish...

  • wow...really impressed!

  • that was sick, :)

could u use the xy pad to controll those to filters that you were using the knobs to do? that would b anlot more fun:P

  • Mind = Just been blown. Absolutely awesome.

  • Very Aphex-ish, nice man!

  • I would love to hear how you planned out this song? Its amazing.

  • thats sick man

  • lets hear more of this in the happy planets

  • is this a cover or anything or all original?

  • I beleive it's all original :)

  • this is the best song aphex twin never wrote!

    more more!

  • Thank you. I'm a visual learner and I play on getting a pad controller soon. This video helped out alot, as I use dblue and live.

  • Finally, somebody who didn't rape Dblue glitch...

  • this is AWESOME! Gonna mp3 this clip!

  • glitch is a really fun plug-in to play with, it's especially good for fucking up drum loops like this

  • Sounds nice. Cool amen variations.

  • Don't blame the equipment. Work harder and the results will come.

  • This has got to be one of the best sounding examples on youtube of the padkontrol.

I'm seriously thinking of getting one.

What are the system requirements for the software provided with the padkontrol?

  • Still can't get this song out of my head!

  • Just got a PK and seeing you rip it up like that makes me wanna go and use it now

  • Same here tomfurstfield!

  • hi the melody is ableton samples puted before , and then u touch the padctronol right? or the pad is doin everything that sounds

  • I think he's triggering and muting with the PK and he also controls filters with it as well, the pad doesn't make any sounds it just controls live.

  • these were supposed to be reply's to previous threads sorry for hogging the comments it's you tubes fault

  • gorgeous. keep it up.

  • awesome sounded like some kind of ambient / drumbient piece :P

  • roolez.

    great sounds.

  • It sounds like I'm dreaming.

    I like it .

  • can someone tell me what the "GM on" message button is for, what does GM do?

  • dude, where can i download this song ?

    it's amazing

  • I would like to hear more of your stuff too, I really like your beats, the amen break has been used so much but you manage to keep it fresh

  • nice beats!

where can i get more of your music?? bye

  • And are you using Impulse for the Amen break?

  • They are just clips in the live view.

  • dblue giltch is so useful, it can make any sound awesome

  • Very nice job..few questions though...First- how many actual drum loops did you have there?

Second- For some of your fills it seems like you were just playing the snare/bass on top of the drum loop..how is that done?

Third- When you were pressing the drum loops it seemed like you could keep pressing it without it coming in on the beat..How is that done? Mine always want to come in on beat 1.

    thanks

  • You can change the quantize length at the top to make it different globally or if you click the clip and then reveal the clip launch properties down on the bottom you can set it to different lengths for the individual clips.

  • nice tune mate:D

how long did it take you to slice this beat?

i want to make this music

  • wow.i really like your sound, i wanna say jimmy tamberello, but with break beats

  • This is a really inspiring peice of work.

    thanks for uploading it..

I like the music on myspace of your band too =]

  • Thanks.

That's actually just me, as well.

  • Oh wow. You're very, very talented man.

  • wow, love those sounds. great breakbeats!

  • nice shades man 8-)

  • wooooow

    just amaziiiiiiiiingg!!! :P

  • interesting =) \m/

  • yo this is so ill i love the whole 8bit music thing going on. i hope i get one of these bad boys soon

  • from the many videos of people trying to chop amens yours def is the most unique good job keep chopping!

  • this is really sick man

    i really like it

i checked your myspace page [happy planets]

do you have anything that's of a similar style to this?

  • Not really.

Some of the music on Life During and After is more electronic based, but most of what I've released as the happy planets isn't as heavy on that.

My next record has much more effort on the electronic elements. It probably won't be finished for a year or so.

    Thanks for the interest.

  • hey man,, just wondering, how did you get your padcontroller to trigger scenes/clips/loops on ableton, i just got a padkontroller and cant get its to work, can get it to trigger midi notes etc but not trigger anything else apart from intruments

  • go into clip view, drag your clips into the clip slot. Click on the midi tab in the top right corner. click on your clip once, then press the key on your padkontrol and it should be asigned. click off the midi tab and it should be good to go.

  • I was wondering if you or anyone else lookign knows how to get the padkontrol working with dblue glitch in ableton any help would be appreciated thanks

  • 0.32 reminds me of tundra by squarepusher @ 2.20 :)

  • sounds almost like aphex twins

  • what instruments r u using?

  • I fell in love of your work!!!
