  • *Totally* *Excellent* Version of this Cool Song!!

  • finaly someone who dont shave armpits

  • GARY IS A BEAST

  • Gary Moore looks like Brennan from step brothers...lol

  • best guitar player ever

nobody can touch the feeling in his playing.

every note he plays is perfect

  • It is wonderful

  • AWSOME!

  • Holy Crap!!! is neil carter plaing dixie in the end. It sounds fucking cool. SON OF A BITCH!!! I love this video!!!!

  • People here have commented, he can no longer play this solo properly. I read an interview, where he actually said that he had never been able to pull off the solo live, the way it was played on the original recording. On all the live versions I've heard he replaces the final fast run with a cromatic slide up the B string, just as he does on this version.

That's what good performers do. If you can't duplicate something cleanly, don't flub it, replace it with something that works equally well !

  • Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but seriously, if you did 8 takes at a solo in the studio and one of them was super clean, better than all of the others, are you gonna NOT put that one on the record ? That makes no sense to me sorry. The recording represents the player at the absolute best he can do. Saying that he should never have recorded it that way is like saying "don't strive to be the best you can, incase you set the bar to high for yourself and can't do it again. Just my opinion.

  • I understand what your saying, but people will expect that "awesome solo" when they come to see you live

Not to see you dumb it down, cause you can't play it

Recording a "lucky shot" and claiming that to be "the best you've got"

when it's just a fluke you'll never pull off again is NOT "the best you've got"

  • Yeah, I can see where you're comming from.

I myself for the most part play well within my comfort zone when it comes to speed, chops etc....and it does end up (for me) to sound a lot more natural and flow better.

Look at Michael Schenker, his playing is superb, but you would never think of him struggling to "make that run" because he is not pushing his technical limits at all. He is just playing very musicaly.

Wow...I think we actually ended up more or less agreeing on YouTube !

  • Nonsense...

  • Yeah, for example Iron Maiden play "Hallowed Be Thy Name" differently every time live.

  • he managed the solo once (well almost) watch this: watch?v=IrgCc-j-ICo

too bad the quality is bad :(

  • its much better whit Phil lynnot...

  • Well, that would be hard to do in 1987.

  • fantastic!!!

  • let there be rock! Just listen to the words, so true. Killer solo. My favourite guitarist of all time, shred man. I preferred his playing to Eddie's cause Gary doesn't tap as much and really goes for it with the pick and his music has stood the test of time.

  • Yeah, Gary is much better than Eddie. Listen to my videos, you never heard Gary Moore like that before!

  • in the best part of the solo, the fckng camera take him at far dastance,

  • Typical huh? Fucking cameraman for ya, not a fucking clue. Its like when After Hours was recorded with Randy Rhoads, and he blows into that awesome solo in Crazy Train, the cameraman is too interested in Ozzy headbang. We can see 30 years of Ozzy headbanging, and we have no footage of Randy playing the Crazy Train solo lol, karma huh? :D

  • Fucking cameraman??? How many cameras do you think has covered this concert? At least seven as far as I can see. It's not that the cameraman has done his picture from far away. Someone in the editing has decided to do it that way. I'm sure that there is enough close up material too. Don't go to blame the cameraman!

  • Awesome track, but what the hell was the point of that camera angle during the solo?!?!

  • R.I.P. Phil Lynott

  • I've been told by people living in the UK circa 1980, that Gary Moore's playing was as influential over there as Eddie Van Halen's was in American at that time.

  • @slimstersquad Gary Moore is one of the best guitarists of all time. He has the ability to amaze and the the ability to bore you rigid!! I've seen both!!

  • @jakeylou those who can play blues well, just like Gary, have that special touch and feeling, just makes it perfect. cause you can't play blues without feeling the music

  • Gary is epic. His playing is epic. His songs are epic, too.

There's something moving in this one...

  • Agree. Gary is fuckin' epic.

And Helloween's "I Want Out" is really similiar to this one :P

  • Fucking stupid cameramen who doesn't know how to handle a camera, especially during the climax of the song

  • I like the delay effect he uses at 0:49 and 3:13.

  • Is he playing EMG Pickups? Sounds like the strings are on 1000 Volts... i like that :-)

  • Guitar Master!

  • Fabulous musician.

  • he is one of the best guitarplayer for all times.

  • @johannmichael Yeah, but not one of......He is probably the best!!

  • where can i get this live on DVD

  • unfortunately this only came out on video i recently bought a copy from america one of only 6 for sale after asking many people to find this 2 weeks after i had the video delivered my son who is a f....... genius found it on a website Rock en Directo.Blogspot i think

  • Wish it would show u a close up of him on the solo.

  • I was looking for this live show on the internet, but it's nowhere to be found (at least I failed to find it). Luckily there are song videos cut out from it and posted here, so I'll just make a compilation of those videos and there you go - a complete show! :-)

  • Also, thought i'd mention, hes blasting it out through a very nice looking Charvel :P

  • Gary Moore is awesom. He ia an excellent rhythm guitarist, lead guitarist and lead vocalist. This song rocks. There are few people that can pull off everything that he does in this song. AWESOME!!!

  • I have all albums and almost all (official and inofficial) bootlegs (especially from the 80´s and early 90´s) of Gary Moore. I know, that there is nothing, Moore can not play. He can play ANYTHING.

  • What venue is this at?

  • 1000 thanks for this version! had looking for this in a long time - from 3:12 to 6:54 is like heaven!!! Enjoy and thanks again to Mr. slambucman

  • This version of the solo is amazing !!!

  • great musician, great guitar player and pretty good singer. the only thing i can't understand is why write a solo he can never play live!!! frankly i think it's near impossible to play that solo live the way it was recorded at the studio...

  • He played it fine, he never plays things exactly the same way twice, but he didn't make any mistakes.

  • apparently you can't play the guitar or are very new so avoid correcting people commenting on playing!

  • "intrepidadmiralme" is totally right. Gary Moore improvise most of his live guitar play. He plays the guitar solos live harder, faster and technically more complex than at the studio.

  • uh...dude. I can play that solo as in the Gary Moore studio version, and trust me when I tell you, if Gary wanted to play it note for note, he absolutely could. I'm not saying I'm any great guitarist (though you can watch my video of the solo and decide). But trust me, if I can do it, Gary Moore can *absolutely* do it. You should avoid correcting people when wrong.

  • umm nope sorry that's not it. it's not bad but it's not it.

  • It is though. I know I missed a hammer on, and can't do a whammy dive without a whammy bar, but if I'm that close, trust me when I say that Gary Moore can do it. In fact there's other videos of him playing it better than this.

  • The studio version of the solo is easily reproduceable. Its a relatively simple, not overly technical solo, with fantastic phrasing and melody, but its also very easily copied.

  • i'd like to see a video of you playing it hot shot

  • Sure thing. It'll just take a few days to get a good clean recording of it.

Its not a complex solo at all. Like I said, it sounds amazing, and it frankly doesn't need to be complex. But as far as technical skill goes, it is nowhere near the level of say, a Jeff Loomis, Tony Macalpine or a Michael Romeo solo, to name a few. The one difficult passage is at the end. Doesn't make it any less of an awesome solo though.

  • totally different style of playing the guitarists you mentioned for example michael romeo plays many of his fast solo parts using legato and tapping an a guitar made for this kind of playing while gary plays on a lp and uses a lot of regular picking. i'm not saying romeo is not good or that gary is better. romeo is one of the best but what gary does romeo could never do and the other way round also

  • it's a pretty tricky one to play live indeed...

  • Nowadays Gary can't play the studio version solo at all. He is too old. People will disagree with me, but its true. The fast run is pretty fast and he just can't to it anymore. But Gary is the bomb!

  • Its true, but its a fantastic lick and he'll always be remembered for it.

  • playing a sexy Charvel

  • fucking great performance,

  • I have seen Gary Moore live many times. I have worn out his videos, Records and even his DVD's (which is'nt possible) to learn his technique.

In the end I sounded like like GM on the Guitar which I stopped playing for 9 years. But I can say this is GM at his his best without a doubt. I wish the powers that be would re-release this Stockholm concert. so I could buy it - I wore out the original video.

  • THE BEST LINE UP OF ALL THE TIMES !!!!!!

  • Not the same without phil

  • One word.........Awesome!!

  • Gary moore at his best so damn nice..love this song:)

  • fuckin wicked
