I heard they can grow well in climates similar to the Western US. Like Britian, Spain, or the Mediterranean. They actually need fire to grow. Fire releases the seeds from the cones. Crazy huh? Fire doesn't hurt a sequoia because it's bark like .7 meters thick.
No the walk is not step. It is also handicap acessible. I love Yosemite, Have been there quite a few times. I am lucky to live only 2 hours away. Calaveras Big Trees is also a great place to visit and see giant Sequoias.
Why don't cities across the country that have the right weather, grow their own sequoias in a park. I would imagine they would be a tourist attraction. From what I learned on my trip, they need water and shade at the roots.
