At the end btw, the seaguard unit is destroyed, which causes normal panic checks, and then the two characters are two seperate units after, still taking panic checks for the destroyed unit if they have to

Really enjoy reports in which Josh and Shawn play. They are so positive and fun, even when facing bad dice rolls. They are great role-models on sportsmanship
My favorite BTP players to watch their batrep are without any doubt Shawn and Josh! I just love when they play together, so interesting and fun! Keep it up guys and thank you!
Love the Batrep! Is there a special rule that if the swordmasters are reduced to the champion he turns into frenzied high elf of Korne or something? He should call him Leonidas. I just pictured the champion slicing things up like in the movie 300.
Shawn, what are the movement trays you use. I'm just starting fantasy and I've picked up the GW custom movement trays. Seeing the great idea of chopping them up into 2x5's looks like a GREAT idea. Maybe you can point me in the right direction on how I can acquire/make some of those nifty trays.
Does anyone know if for initiative tests, whether steam tanks get to go off the initiative value of the commander of 3? This would give them a 50/50 chance to survive. Main rule book page 10 says "where a model has more than one value for the same characteristic... a characteristic test is always taken against the highest of the values". That leads me to think the pit of shades is not an auto-kill.
Here's a list I use for Empire Shaun! Have fun swarming most armies, destroying their magic, and chewing them up with your stank and greatswords. (Arch Lector + War Alter + Heavy Armor + Shield) (Wizard Lord + Level 4 + Crimson Amulet + Rod of Power) (Captain + Battle Standard Bearer + Full Plate Armor) 3(Warrior Priest + Heavy Armor + Shield) 2(Master Engineer) 2[40(Halberdier) + Full Command] [30(Flagellant) + Full Command] [40(Greatsword) + Full Command] 3(Great Canon) 3(Mortar) Steam Tank
Nice batrep Shawn. and nice to finaly get some real empire action again :D lovin' me some empire :P 2 steamtanks and a waraltar would be great and maybe go for some warrior priests to get hatred for you swordmen?
anyway... thx for a great batrep cant wait to see what you are gonna do with your list
@bluetablepainting I think Josh would've started casting Pit of Shades on them. One Steam Tank is an annoyance, so I'd imagine two are a threat you can't ignore for long. Personally, I think you'd benefit more from a couple of dispel scrolls. Always useful against uber HE magic.
Steadfast is calculated for each unit even in multiple combats. Also warmachines crew do fight when they get charged so can't just jump over them and so on. It's just from shooting attack they count as wounds! But keep em coming!
Other than that good game. My opinion is empire, dwarfs and wood elves are the counter to dark elves and high elves. How much magic did you get off? I'd say about none. However if you just held back a bit and let him come to you you could've blown him to pieces. In fact instead of casting magic you possibly could've dispelled his 'remains in play' spells with impunity in your magic phase. All you'd need is to match the casting value to get it off.
@FlamingKillamajig I agree with that. The 300 pt or so investment in my L4 Wizard Lord didn't really pay off. If I just had another unit, or the right unit, I could have just killed his wizard in turn 2. I plan on play Empire more for sure.
You could still kill the steam tanks with initiative tests and some 100 pts weapons. Not to mention cannons, poisoned wind globadiers and other stuff. Course i'm not into globadiers but if ever a unit is too tough you just initiative test it to death.
I'm not sure if i got it right but i think your knights also could have re-directed the charge into the remaining swordmaster. There's no way 1 swordmaster could take all of them. Also you don't have to accept challenges with champions.
@bluetablepainting What's not to like? Strong magic defense, access to all lores, cheap infantry that maximize the benefits of 8th edition, handgunners firing in 2 ranks, steam tanks, artillery (especially the hellblaster and mortars with the template)... it's all good! :)
"Mother did me the most gawgus curls this morning!" - LOL, I choked on my tea on that one. Why do Empire soldiers talk like southern ladies from the 1860's? Great report! I'm thinking of running 2 steamtanks as well. Hey, it can't be cheesier than coming up against 2 EotG Lizardman lists.
@delryn256 No, trust me, its cheesier. There are lots of ways to kill Engines-- just as any Empire, Skaven or Dwarf player. The Steam Tank has 4 higher toughness, 5 higher wounds and a 2+ better armour save than the Engine, has a freaking cannon on board, and can run over units with a ridiculous number of impact hits. Fielding two means you won't be making many friends.
@kevlonk With respect, anything is easy to deal with once you know it's coming, and that especially goes for Steamtanks since it seems so easy to one-shot them with magic nowadays. You don't even have to kill it, since after a few wounds it becomes too unreliable. Now when somone runs two EotG at 1500pts (esp against undead), I call that cheesy. Add on the extra magic output they generate, and I'd say they outweigh steamtanks easily. PM is you want to discuss more.
Great battlereport, as you said; 2 fully painted armies going at each other on nice looking terrain just fills you with joy. ^^ Ahhh... gotta love fantasy!
@tg01millmorer The flank makes the spearmen lose their rank bonus for purposes of combat resolution, but it has nothing to do with the way steadfast is determined. So flanking is still good for purposes of winning combats, but no it doesn't do anything when it comes to steadfast.
Empire, underdog army? thay're retardedly strong in 8th, right up there with skaven.
anyway, great battle report, a few mistakes but who cares (apart from the rule police that like to pick fault with every report on youtube), as long as it was fun its ok.
This game probably goes the empire's way without all the rules mess ups. For playing a guy that knew the rules this batrep was worse than the previous one in how much it was affected by missed rules. Still fun to watch.
I think you get steadfast from just one rank. So 5 guys can get steadfast if the opponent only has 4 or less people left. 5 people is 1 rank. 1-4 people is zero ranks. So 5 people can get steadfast I think (that one swordmaster might not have killed the gunners).
Warmachines - cant stand and shoot as a charge reaction, and use the crews toughness in H2H, they only use the higher warmachine strength against shooting
Last man standing - don't they need insane courage to stick around? (double 1's)?
shame you got porked by earlier rules mis-quotations
things you should look up maybe
Parry saves - you only get Parry saves if you are using a hand weapon and shield, nothing else
Steadfast - you either get a LD test using generals inspiring presence (suffering normal minuses) OR a steafast on the units own LD (unless the General is in the same unit)
Enfeebling Foe - well, the less said the better, read the spell cards lol
Would have to suggest Outriders. I use a unit of five with a champion using a Hockland long rifle to snip characters. Always get its points back, otherwise a unit of ten with just a Musician would destroy HE's.
i feel really sorry for you shaun , your empire should have done sooo much better if it wasnt for those stupid pheonix guard and there 4+ invun, this i why i hate high elves
I think you would have been steadfast because your horde had more ranks than the enemy (phoenix guard had only 1 full rank? and the spearelves did not have ranks because they had a unit on their flank that broke their ranks)... Might be wrong...
