  • How come we can't find this cartoon on dvd. Seems alot of the great saturday morning cartoons are missing from dvd.

  • @wackydue

The reasons may involve copyright issues for the dub or how most dubbing companies (e.g. Funimation, Viz, Bandai Visual) are currently focusing on current anime titles. And money.

  • This show was fucking crap!!! Not a patch on the original Thunderbirds. The fact that they had 100s of machines, for every possible situation - "Oh, the oil well is on fire, bring out Thunderbird 238!" utter tosh!!!!

  • @Yogurt1701 So not a bit like the "pod vehicle of the week that just happens to be EXACTLY what we need to rescue these people even though we couldn't possibly have predicted this accident would ever happen" then?

  • @ACtheLegend stfu you c*nt!!! At least the original show had clever resolutions with the limited vehicles they had for the situations.

  • @Yogurt1701 Duuuuude, any need for that kind of talk? I'm just stating that it's funny how they usually had a vehicle that seemed tailor-made for the rescue of the week, despite the fact they sometimes they had no idea what they'd find when they arrived (The Duchess Assignment leaps to mind)

  • Sorry but I just about remember this - all style (a naff techno style) and poor stories. Sorry I 'd rather watch 5 mins of the real thing that have the whole 2086 on blu ray for free

  • i don't like it

  • lol i figure this out! 2086 - 2011! thats 75 yrs from now! lol

  • TB 2086 was a very good adaptation of Gerry Anderson's original TB. It expanded the TB universe without disrespecting the original - It legitimised the TBs and made it a true official international rescue organisation, it widened the scope of the IRO operations into deep space, it modernised the already cool TB vehicles and globalised the crew of the IRO. TB 2086 even paid tribute to the original TBs in some designs, and in some episodes with music [Fireflash landing is in TB 2086] and stories.

  • I literally only saw this cartoon ONE time back in the day! It didn't get much notariety, but it had potential.

  • what a fucking insult to us British ! How Dare they take a Great Tv Series and turn it into this fucking shite ! Sorry but you dont piss around with Good Tv Series !

  • @ThePrestonChannel No you don't, but perhaps you should do some research before you jump to conclusions. This series was NEVER meant to be a remake of Thunderbirds, simply a homage to a show that the Japanese really admired. It was only when the American's got hold of it that they decided to dub it as Thunderbirds, due to a quirk of translation.

  • Awesome intro if you consider it came out at at a time when PC's had 256kb of Ram and u could hardly see anything but letters in 3D !

  • this is awesome !

  • I remember owning a VHS of an episode of this with an episode of Capitan Scarlet weird combo.

  • wow 2086 dosnt seem that far away as it did back in 1986

  • Still better than the Bill Paxton movie.

  • 0:15 - I swear I heard that computer noise in the background on one of those Thunderbirds videos released around that time

  • Given the era I think they just polished the opening establishing shots in a Foss style. Rest is more anime tech style. But at the time in the UK it looked incredible.

  • Did they really use CGI in this? At the time it all looked computer generated, but looking at it now it has more of an airbrush feel to it.

  • @eamonnca1 Well now it does. But back then it was a different experience. But for something that was made in Japan, that's not really surprising. You wouldn't BELIEVE the kind of technology Japan and China could come up with.

  • 1:11 We all live in a yellow submarine,yellow submarine,yellow submarine..

  • :O cool, i didn't know that an Anime version of Thunderbirds existed, and those cgi animations are pretty cool for the year this was made

  • THESE ARE THE THUNDERBIRS!!!...2086...

  • I remember this!!! This was so cool back in the day!

  • hmm, the guy doing the intro sounds like the same one who did the Galaxy Rangers intro..

  • @red25ty Yes, it is. check the credits. This cartoon was from Robert Mandell and Owen Locke - the same guys who whipped out GR. They also brought the integration of CGI and cel animation.

  • There's no way the world will look like that in 76 years

  • Beats the hell out of the 60s puppet show

  • This caetoon is so good it makes my cock hard!!!

  • Fuck me this is finally it, I always talk about this show and no one ever knew what the hell if going on about

  • @themoviedudesteam sameeeeeeeee!

  • @themoviedudesteam

    me too!!

    great show!

  • @themoviedudesteam I get that response too...everybody who remembers the Thunderbirds remembers the marrionette version, not this anime that I grew up with.

  • @themoviedudesteam Thats the reaction I get! Pretty sure they think I made it up!!

  • Just guess, where do you think this was originally from?

  • @SPAMusubiHalau It's called "Anime" for a reason, ergo Japan. It's not hard to tell, especially given the highly stylized drawing style.

  • @SPAMusubiHalau "ERGO"? Did you really use, "ERGO"? Just giving you a "thumbs up" for use, and a "thumbs down" to me for my inability to show sarcasm in here...after all, I did live in Japan for a little over 13 years - "ERGO", my sarcastic remark. My apologies.

  • @SPAMusubiHalau

you should give him a thumbs down for improper usage of the word ergo. don't just be impressed by fancy words. ergo is not a synonym for namely

  • @darksteelfuzzy My bad, buddy. I was Public School Educated. *hangs head down low*

  • Old and nice. I remember this anime, its one of my first watching ever ...

  • Thunderbirds + Anime = .... nice!

  • really great times ... i miss them alot .. :'(

  • Almost, a TRON intro on the titles, hahaha...

  • Hands down my favorite animated series ever (just can't call this a cartoon), and one of my favorite TV shows. I found my old videotapes, I managed to collect all 24 episodes. Now to get them onto DVD!

  • gerry anderson rip but still cool

  • This and Robotech were my two favorite 80s cartoons, really amazing stuff

  • عندما كنت أشاهد هذا الكرتون في صغري

أبنة عمي كانت تقول لي أني أنا طيار المكوك

When I was watching the cartoon as a kid

My cousin was telling me that I am shuttle pilot

  • Also I have liked this cartoon, and it is 10-15 years I have never watched it again.

We in Italy we have a SKY channel, Cooltoon, who shows the cartoons of the '80's, but "Thunderbirds 2086" is not among them and unfortunately I don't know if they'll put it on air.

    Guido.

  • Your DAD huh? And I thought these clips were just looked at by 30 somethings(30 a lot of something) who were trying to remember the music for cool openings to old cartoons.

  • my dad used to watch this show when he was a kid

  • @ 1.17 - it's Barry Hercules from Star Fleet

  • damn i miss the 80's! that was such a wonderful era to grow up in

  • @MrSuajay You said it buddy!

  • I miss when anime was like this! When I was growin up, there NEVER seemed to be a shortage of good stuff on t.v!!!

  • it's not bad, not bad at all. but i still prefer the original thunderbirds. that's just my personal opinion though!

  • cant believe im watching this 25 years later...

  • Omg i used to make drawings of those ships all the time when i was a kid!

  • This movie inspied me to work for NASA as an Electronic Engineer. I now work at a Research Corporation (SRC) because of THIS INTRO. I'm 37yrs old and this intro STILL gives me goosebumps.

  • i remember watching this on showtime back in the 1980's when i was a teen.

i thought it had a higher production value.

    still, it's cool.

  • Sweet yellow submarine

  • Wasn't the original thunderbirds already set in the future?

Oh and I'm sorry but this intro is garbage compared to the proper one.

    saludos!

  • My childhood. I loved the puppets too. But this was it. god I loved that blonde chick as only an 8 year old can do.

  • The voiceover guy sounds a little TOO excited by it all....

  • its yust japanese lol

  • love this version, the puppet version was rubbish

  • I wonder if the rescue vehicles combined to form a giant robot `ala Voltron Vehicle Force! (^_^)

  • OMG ... i loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooved this cartoon when i was a kid .. :"( i miss it so much ...

  • lol I remember that!!!

  • it says 2086 but its made in 1982 X )

    coool :)

  • erm a bit like batte of the planets yes?

  • And 5 Cadets The guy that drivesnumber 3 looks about 50

  • @Squire1017A They were sometimes called cadets but it is a scripting error. They are all frontline active duty members of the International Rescue Organisation, part of a newly-formed elite team called Thunderbirds, so they were still technically fresh or green as a team, so [incorrectly] called "Cadets". In fact, they held the rank of Captain and commanded their own vehicles/ships & were highly skilled. There were some episodes where they even took command of rescue operations ["Thunderbolt"].

  • aaah a black man ! XD

  • Probably the best CGI'd cartoon intro prior to 2000. Whoever made this shit had some serious passion, given the technology at the time.

  • my favourite cartoon as a kid... so rad it's unbelievable!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • And nobosy remembers where this anime came from

    Advantage: America

  • Can someone please tell me where to find episodes? Is one of my favorites.

  • OMG I think I remember seeing this

  • The best!!!thanks for uploading!

  • is there any built toys of this Thunderbirds 2086 ?

  • i NEVER SAW this. I do remember the puppets tho'. Sweet

  • It's not that surprising that's there's a Thunderbirds anime. I mean, there exist animes of the TMNT, and the freakin' -Power Puff Girls- of all things.

  • the puppet show stays king!

i mean wtf ! look at these crappy vehicles!

    those arent cool?!

    they are RUBBISH!

just compare it with the other stuff

even the FAB 1 pwns all these vehicles

not that the FAB 1 sucks but it was imo the least cool looking vehicle

  • cool, what a build up!

  • This was way back in 1984, a quarter-century ago! I taped this off cable in the 1980s.

  • Holy sh@%, I haven't seen this in years. THIS SHOW WAS F&^%ING HOT!!!!

  • Nowhere near as good as the original GA series

  • nothing will ever beat the puppets

  • I love that shows, miss that when I was kid.

  • Oh man! This go's way back before Voltron and Teansformers became a household name! Man, getting old sucks! I loved this anime when I was a kid!

  • not this one dont you mean the original thunderbirds?

  • your talking about the original thubderbirds this one came out loooong after voltron

  • I love the opening riviting narration and the cool background music

  • Can someone tell me who the announcer is? I always like that voice which sounds like like the one from Wheel Warriors and Galaxy Rangers.

  • @chinito77 The GR connection is deliberate. Robert Mandell (GR's creator) worked extensively on this. He has a lot ot say about it in the interviews he gives on the GR DVDs

  • @Allronix So the name of the announcer is???

  • Comment removed

  • @chinito77 I'm not sure he named who the announcer was, but he did say it was the same announcer.

  • i'm 33 and i remember it. it was my favorite anime/cartoon. since then i love anime...even now!!

  • What the hell, Anime Thunderbirs thats crazy:)

  • This show made me laugh. It shouldn't have done, but this show was pretty lame. The composers even nicked some of Barry Gray's soundtrack from the original, and that sucks.

  • Yeah, but it's not Thunderbirds is it?

  • Dont remeber this one at all !

  • this is the thunderirds i grew up on

  • i used to watch this as a kid, good stuff, watching this brings back memories

  • I enjoyed 2086, it made a nice change from the usual cartoons that had an outright villain.

My favourite episode was the one they had to land a gigantic flying wing, so they poured floating concrete on the sea to make a runway....

  • @rozniy That is one of my favorites as well, sadly the VHS PAL tapes with those episodes not already on You Tube might not ever appear on You Tube. They guy that maintained the TV.com page has all of them and all the episodes but I believe UFO and Child's Play which was only shown ONCE in America on a local station in Oxnard, CA. The episode your talking about is 'Thunderbolt"

  • This was actually a really good show. I fucking HATED the puppet show, it was terrible.

  • ill be 125 in 2086 :)

  • so you're 48 now?

  • Beats the puppet show

  • how? this one is crap

  • And how's that?? This is some fucked-up japanese crap! The original puppet-Thunderbirds -series had idea, heart, point and view!

  • I definitely prefer the original 'Marionation' version of the Thunderbirds- this just looks like a cheap knock-off. And don't get me started on the live-action movie- it isn't even worth mentioning! At least this looks better than that god-awful 'New Adventures of He-Man' crap they came out with in the early 90's. That was probably one of the stupidest cartoons ever made!

  • Thunderbirds 2086 was the first series that I became familiar with. No offence to other opinions, but I personally was quite disappointed when I did see the original. The idealism in this series was infectious. I would love to see this series reworked on DVD

  • I like it. It promotes the Idea of "the service of mankind" and not the pursuance of selfish petty individual goals. However it's a bit idealistic and not at all a true reflection of the nature of man; selfish, ruthless and cowardly.

  • I think it's horrible personally I think i'll stick with the original

  • Fuck! I remember this show!

  • I remember seeing some of these when I left my nephews to the kids' park in a convenience store and later when I was waiting my sister to get her kids.

At first I thought it was a lame japanese version of the Thunderbirds, but after we'd seen a couple of episodes, I became hooked.

Puppet nostalgia aside this show just had that something that the original series lacked.

  • the original was way better! this looks like captain future

  • HORRIBLE

    just HORRIBLE

how much can you rape the best show there was

  • I looked this up because the classic game room dude told me too = O!

  • same. missed this show when I was younger lol

  • lol me too!

  • LOL. ClassicGameRoom dude must own our souls!!

  • I remember watching some of the TB2086 episodes. Ah the memories...

  • Oh my god.. I saw this and I wanna throw a brick throug my computerscreen..

  • Oooh look - doesn't the black dude look..well..exactly like Barry Hercules from Star Fleet. No...surely just a coincidence. I used to think this cartoon was sacrilage, until I finally realised how deathly boring the original puppet series was. They made about 500,000 episodes of that and yet just 24 of the vastly superior Star Fleet. Where's the justice ...??

  • they made 32 episodes of the original Thunderbirds and two feature films

  • Thunderbirds was pretty popular in Japan. Even to this day you can find tributes to it in anime (Sonic X got plenty of 'em) so if this wasn't meant to be a spinoff/remake/reimagining/sequel then the 'TB' and some of the designs were obviously a direct hommage.

What was this show called initially? And why does that black guy look familiar?

  • it was i belive called Techno-Voyager.

  • Q: what do ya get if ya cross thunderbirds with Voltron?

    A: BORED!

  • gosh this cartoon took itself way to seriously, "Man took his technical superiority into quests of marvelous and brilliant blah blah dramatic heroic blah"

  • Millennia ahead of their time. I will always respect and honor TB2086. I will also cherish the few episodes I have on VHS. I can't praise the show enough.

  • totally awesome, one of my favourite cartoons as a kid...

  • stupid, but the anime always has good music

  • superb...

  • Now that I see this intro they put 2086 as a year humans will at least reach space anytime or reach Mars and is very possible. They did not made the mistake as other shows to put 2005 or 2009. LOL

  • I prefer the puppets

  • Everybody prefers the puppets but you got to admit, the anime (just an anime not related toThunderbirds that was distributed in the US as Thunderbird related) wasn't bad and much better than FOX's horrible version

  • Well, I must say that I still prefering Gerry Anderson's series over anything else created over his idea...:P

  • Wow, this version is much better than the Fox kids 1994 version. Is this version on DVD, does anybody know? Is this what we would find on Thunderbirds 40th Anniversary Collector's Edition Megaset for example?

  • @SlimTwisted: In answer to your questions-No, No, and No, sadly. And this show was even made/distributed by ITC's Japanese division (ITC/ATV made the Thunderbirds back in the 1960's), but ITV/Granada has yet to put it out on DVD.

  • For 1985, this kicked fucking ass on about anything dorks can do in the 21st century.

So, what's the problem, dorks? Can't top the past?

    Figures.

  • The same people that animated the Galaxy Rangers toon did this.

  • Now, I get that this isn't proper Thunderbirds, and that the series wasn't particularly good (as picking up a VHS tape with some eps on it show me). But God Damn that voice over still gets me amped twenty-odd years on. THESE ARE THE THUNDERBIRDS!

  • "Ekhrass" (Shut up)!

I'm a muslim, I'm a fan of this anime and I think your comment was disgraceful, it's idiots like who give our faith a bad rep.

  • Wow, how very religious, "follow us or you die."

As a muslim, it's my duty to make extremists scums like you feel stupid. If you said that kind of stuff in Egypt, you'll either get pwned by Ali Gomaa the grand mufti in a debate or banned from public speaking events. You extremists are hijiking my faith and abusing the freedom of speech that this country has given you.

  • rock on element

  • From the childishness of his first comment, I doubt he's even Muslim.

  • if you dont like it fuck off back to where ever you came from

  • I have these toys still, I collect these goodies and have them on a display in a special room in my place. Even my son is trying to follow collecting his own. They dont make toys like they used to. This Thunderbirds 2086 collector's set could combine like the sequences in the series. Loved it then, love it still. It's just awesome!

  • v.o. doesn't even say thunderbirds are go :(

  • The blast at 1:32, its the same sound effect used in the gerry anderson series

  • The Animated TB1, TB2, and TB4 were more or less similar to the originals. TB3 and TB5 became ground-based vehicles, while the space station became TB6. 11 more vehicles were added in later episodes, which brings it to 17, which was a lot more than their British counterparts.

To all TB fans there, please don't hate this anime. After all, it was originally known as TechnoBoyger, or TechnoVoyager in Japan. It was renamed Thunderbirds when it got ported over to the US.

  • Right this did come out in the 80's.

  • @RomanTix: Kagaku Kyūjo Tai Tekunoboijā, aka Scientific Rescue Team TechnoVoyager.

  • Thunderbirds 2086 was pretty cool. I once tried to imagine what it would be like if the original TBs joined forces with these guys.

In my opinion,I think this show rockedjust like the original British show. truth is, I loved watching them both :)

  • Ok, it has to be said; those vehicles look like hairy, pimply ASS compared to the old ones! I know it was not originally supposed to be a thunderbirds thing but those machines are just... Power Ranger-ish in their blocky, ugly design!

  • That's HORABLE!

  • Disco-anime Thunderbirds!

    I like it already,

  • Dave, get off the pills and watch an episode. Also don't comment when you're high.

  • I watched an episode, that's why I say it is a load of crap. watch the original series, 100 times better than this. Sounds to me as though you are the one on the pills and getting high if you like THIS crap

  • wow your a douche arent you how many times has it gotta be said this cartoon was never originally called thunderbirds...

  • "But two things strike me in this video: first it goes on FOREVER spelling out the series concept without ever generating any real excitement"

Do you have any concept of time? This was mid-80's. The graphics were state of the art, virtually no one had seen anything like this before. And the opening theme and dialog was as dramatic as you'd find in a movie.

It was a cartoon, yet it still kicked ass for its time.
