  • I think I'm still noticing some dropped frames. Does this camera create the avi files? You mentioned that may be an issue with some of these cameras..

  • is this radio?

  • Thank you for these post. I think you did it justice and I'm not too impressed with it.

  • the brand of the SD card can actually affect the quality of the camera?

  • your driving on the wrong side of the road

  • Zetta Z11 can record 8 hours video by battery, check it out in youtube "Zetta Z11".

  • Im buying one and putting it on my rc plane (: What SD card are you using in this video please?? Thank you.

  • @Greataardvark It was just a normal Class 2 card. Get any Non-Fake class 4 card and you'll be fine.

  • @Techmoan Just arrived today and the manual was crap haha ive got an 8 GB sandisk in there its a class 4 and its a great lil camera (: ive had it on the front of my rc plane and recorded a video already. Top notch. Technology is fantastic these days, and at under £20 for a camera that does this and an 8GB card??? WOW ha. I am pleased (:

  • @Greataardvark that will be awsome did you do it yet?

  • @watchforfinger Not yet I only realised all of my digi cameras use a normal SD card and I transfer via USB direct to camera. This thing is not detected when I plug it in USB. So I have gone for the easy option and ordered a MSD card reader. (: I will post a video at some point maybe of me driving. Tune in to my channel and take a look. Sub and itl show you when I post.

  • LEXAR is a good brand, you must have had a chinese fake.

  • The quallity is better than a mobilephone, and its cheap, it well good to monitor daily goings on or recording ina car and so on. obviously not for making mii films. and it doubles up as a webcam.

  • Techmoan, what alot of your viewers don't understand, is that the camera you reviewed is an AEE one, which is the original MD80. All other MD80 cameras that:

    a) don't carry the AEE logo on the front;

    b) has a plastic body - not metal;

    c) can be found for around 7GBP - 15 GBP is not the same camera at all.

Maybe a cheaper MD80 side by side comparison against the AEE's MD80 would be beneficial?

Also a list of differences between the AEE MD80 and the MD80 clones?

    Thanks!

  • @K00L1E You are right - there is a lot of confusion about these cameras. My MD80 review is now quite old and quality has improved and moved on, that's why I haven't gone back and revisited it. Have you looked at my latest review of the HD808 #11 camera? - After using that one, I couldn't the MD80 any more. I'd imagine that the image sensor and chipset out of the HD808 will get used in most of the new spy cameras from now on.

  • @Techmoan

I just watched it now, very informative indeed. What i liked about the AEE's MD80 is the endless possibilities of having it mounted for the motorbike recording, it would potentially even fit inside the helmet, however i can't see me doing that. I think that the AEE's MD80 is also the imported version of the Veho Muvi, which i was going to seriously consider. It films in 640x480 also, but I think what my main concern would be for quality first, and cycle recording secondly.

  • sooo what would be the best micro card?

  • @keokidnick Just get a real good name card, probably from a trusted retailer (like Amazon but not the Marketplace sellers) and aim for a class 4 speed rating.

  • nice to hear another collings and herrin podcast fan.

i had just bought this camera and was watching your review, when i recognised what was playing in the background

  • @SoylentBlack1 Well spotted, especially considering it was so muffled.

  • Once again, I think the wobbliness is due to low shutter-speed used in this camera.

Typically this is used to compensate for poor light sensitivity in the sensor chip.

  • Hmm i was going to purchase one of these to record the racing from my go kart, they dont seem to like vibrations much so i dont know how that would go on a go kart, but for the price of them i think the quality is pretty good, if you want HD your obviously going to have to spend more

  • seems a bargain, ive seen these for under £10...thanks for the review, im gonna get one for my road bike

  • this seems to be perfect as there are 0 vibrations comming from the car (unless its from the road) and the wobbles can eaisly be taken care of by mounting to a human, either using the arm strap or a helmet mount. and it produces EXCELLENT video quality for a mini cam.

  • So I want to buy this camera, but i see now that the ones in Ebay have 720x480 resolution, so i am afraid it will be a copy of the key chain spy camera, which i don't like because it uses more space and has a narrow viewing angle. Do you have any comments/suggestions on that subject?

  • worst cam ever

  • I suspect that the original card was either a fake or faulty. Every other card I've used since works perfectly (I've tried 4 or 5 different cards, all without a reoccurrence of the same problem).

  • @Techmoan

wich SD card did you use in y'r first jerky video and wich in this one? and where i can get this one??

  • @Techmoan

can u give me the name of the new card please that fixed this problem(stop-start)

  • @MrBo586 I think you might be missing the point EVERY CARD. Will work fine as long as it is NOT A FAKE and NOT FAULTY and a CLASS 2 or above. If you really want a name, I'll list all the cards I own, all of which work fine. Kingston, Samsung, Sandisk.

  • wich SD card did you use in y'r first jerky video and wich in this one?

    thnx

  • @henrico21 the same questoin ?? and where can i get this one

  • @MrBo586

you can find them on ebay. just bought one for 13,60 english pounds.

  • Hi , i bought a MD80 and i have a 4GBmicroSDHC class4 that came with the camera but i have a jerky stop-start problem when recording and it haves low quality, i already tried another card a microSD no class and it doesnt jerk only bad quality, could this be from the 4GB card? the 4GB cars doesnt have any brand it only says microSDHC class4, the adapter to SD says Kingston but i dont think the card is kingston... if i buy a good card like SanDisk SDHC class4 or 6 will it fix my problem?

  • why don't my sandisk card class 6 8gb don't work with my canon sd780? please tell me why.

  • would this camera produce good film strapped on an r/c airplane?

  • @GrettyBoyCustoms Yes it would be OK - but you should look at the 808 keychain camera as it's much lighter. I've done a review of this model too. You'll have to find a way to dampen down the vibrations though.

  • I would really appreciate it if you could make a md80-keychain spycam comparision video.

  • @MyDrivingVideos I've already done this - check my 808 review to see some comparison shots.

  • I think you would find some of those wobbles would become less pronounced if you were using it mounted to your head. The vibrations through the car are causing the wobbles, but your head wouldn't suffer such severe vibrations and hence give a better video (I assume).

  • @ryanhellyer You are right - you can see the effect of a helmet mounted camera in my other videos.

  • i used a 8GB SD from Sandisk and my MTB ride to the trail footage is all JERKY! i am so pissed! would this thing work with a 4GB SDHC from Kingston or Sandisk?

  • I'm always surprised at how similar Manchester and Birmingham look. London has the advantage of being MASSIVE, there's plenty of run down areas in the Big Smoke, just there are lots of nice (noice, as we say in Birmingham) areas too. Love the videos. Your delivery is well timed and profession.

  • @tokenminds Thanks for the comments. Manchester is OK, but I'm always happy to go home (30 miles away) at the end of the day.

  • nice demo of this cam.. wobbles way too much but i guess thats what you get for that price

  • hahaha wow...the place looks nice send a cheers to john and ringo star from their fans in america/mexico) heheheheheheh cool vid men

  • i will buy this from u for $30

  • Manchester looks nice in your videos -looks very high tech My ancestors lived in England in the 1700s God Bless from USA

  • I LOOOOVE your videos can you make a video showing us how you ad text to your video clips ,Its really cool to read those inserts, and I love seeing the streets of London,England ,Etc.Thank you for taking the time.

  • @electricalbannanas I haven't bought any motion detector cameras to test out (yet). The MD80 is pretty poor in low light (due to its tiny lens) - so night time use is out of the question. I don't know the max card size possible - but the battery will run out before you fill up a 4gb size so there is no point buying any bigger card. The town clips are of Manchester (London looks a lot nicer).

    Thanks for the comments.

  • How large (bytes!!??) or whatever can the SD card have /be?

  • Did you test the night vision capabilties? Do you test any spy cams with motion sensors? EXcellent and informative thanks.God Bless -from uSA

  • As several others have asked, How do you turn off the date/time stamp?

  • Check out my original MD80 review video then watch the Video Response that answers this question.

  • In the comments for the other video - someone has posted the following.... (i can't comment on this myself as my camera is the original metal bodied model that doesn't display the date).

    The detail as following:

1.build a text called TAG.TXT under root directory of card.

    2. open TAG.TXT,write synchronous date according to enclosure stricktly.

    Details as following:

    [date] need space with newline

    2009/07/22 need space with newline

    12:00:00

  • Can you please tell what kind of card ou write speed should I buy to have a good video? tnx

  • Any card should do - it's just that the one that came with the camera was junk/faulty/fake. The card I used to get this video was just an old one I had lying around - it wasn't a class 4 or 6 (but you might as well get a class 4 just to be on the safe side).

  • How to turn off the timestamps? Thx

  • Just view the response video.

  • Quite an interesting find. So the quality of the SD card is the real culprit for jerky video...

I have a MD80 and it does not wobble at all.

  • How did you get rid of the time/date stamp? I hate that thing!

  • Try making a softer mount. Look at peoples videos where it is mounted on their helmet vs on their handlebars/dash.

Our heads give them a good "suspension system". and the wobble isn't so bad.

There is also the filters in VirtualDub to help this (google/youtube wobble filter etc)

  • You are right of course - this was just hastily stuck to my passenger sun visor. When I next take my scooter out for a decent run I might try attaching it to my helmet somehow to see how that works out. For the price though, I now think that the picture is pretty reasonable.

  • I find these work well attached to a car Satnav mount. In fact along with MD80s I experimented with a far cheaper (£11 or $14 Ebay HK) Spy Pen, see my channel for a video using this. The latter is indeed useable and fairly smooth although of course unlike the Muvi/ MD80/ clones the card is internally fixed and probably fairly mediocre. Good video.
