Great video guys. I was wondering how to get that remote to work. I don't use it because of the line of sight but it's nice to know it actually works. I use a wireless remote that works from any direction and up to 100' away. Great for elevated photography and nature shots where the animals can be a little skittish.
Hi guy's I am going to be getting a DSLR in a month or so ( I am want to get into getting photo editing in photoshop) I am probably not going to get the 700 it's to expensive for me. Anyway can someone tell me what is live view? and for a beginner is it something worth having.
Live view allows you to see what is going on in the LCD montor before you shoot and not just the viewfinder. All low cost digital cameras are only live view. You may want to consider getting the D5000 for its live view capabilities
OK pick up your A-700 and take a picture you have to first hit the delete button(thats press 1) then hit the joystick to confirm the delete (press number 2) even though it shows up with the delete option selected first!
your first tip is wrong! Your still pushing 2 buttons while deleting an image, once on the delete button and then once on the joystick to confirm the delete! nice try!
I have recently started experimenting with the use of Studio lighting and have been getting some very pleasing results. However, when reducing the ISO level to its lowest setting to compensate for the effects of the lighting, I then struggle to increase the shutter speed. Sony A700 & A900 user. Any suggestions?
the information on the grip-sensor is wrong - other models of the alpha-series have this feature but the a700 does not. it's just a piece of plastic with no function!
of course it works, it is just to keep the eye sensor for auto focusing constantly when it is hanging around your neck. The grip sensor has to be engaged for the eye sensor to start auto focusing.
Im looking at my A700 now...... there is a plastic plug marked "B" which is where you would expect to see the standard RED plastic sensors? My A200 and A900 however have a very obvious grip sensor. More than one model of the A700?

The remote is line of sight, If you are using the wireless unit, I would stick with that.
I don't thing you can get the wireless to do more than it does.

It's unfortunate that it was designed for one specific task. By making it a radio signal remote, it would have been more versatile.

Should I do that with or without the menu change we talk about in the video? If you did it both ways, what was the change you saw? Or was there none?

Not if you change the menu setting. If you change the menu setting, you don't have to confirm to delete.

what flash(s) are you using, what effects do you need as such a low shutter speed? how low do you need to go in ISO?
jonvideo 2 years ago
@Graylingegm: the effective iso speed of the camera is 200, the lower setting are only a reminder, no sense to use it.

The grip sensor exists and works on the a700. Earlier models (eg: a350) use only the eye sensor by itself.

on my a700 it doesn't work - and it isn't noted down in my manual

It's a piece of magnesium alloy.
The US version of the A700 has the grip sensor, while the UK version does not.

ahhh ok, that's why my a700 doesn't have it =(

Yep, Makes sense!

Only the European A700 model do not have the grip sensor due to the RoHS compliant.
