Tasers ARE NOT a substitute for intellect and reasoning. There is also such thing as outnumbering someone or using batons; tasers can kill and should only be used if lives are at risk.
Where did you get that figure from? Having dealt with people with mental problems I can see where in some (but not all) cases, a Tazer would help to resolve the situation with the minimum amount of physical force and the minimum amount of injuries to those involved.

I did not see any misuse of it in this video (each of the officers in this vid appropriately used it according to U.S. laws). I would rather be Tazed than pepper sprayed anyway. I've watched a few vids on here featuring people getting tazed, and am still puzzled as to why the police, having tazed someone still insist that the victim put his/her hands behind his/her back. Placing hands behind backs whilst lying face down and mobile involves some coordinated muscle movement. Being incapacitated under the same circumstances by tazing, involves greater coordination as the current exhausts muscle and confuses brain signals to nerves.
I'm with the video-maker on this one. The guy who was tazed 7 times would have had even more impairment of judgement and coordination. The police are using it more and more frequently as a form of corporal punishment. I advocate the use of it under special circumstances where dangerous overly aggressive suspects need to be restrained, but not for non confrontational behaviour.
In the last scene of this clip, the officer appeared to have made his decision to use it within a few seconds of dialogue. In that case it was unwarranted. It'll get to a point where it'll be taze first, ask the suspect to comply after. Much better training is required including better discernment, judgement and tact.

Because every one of them would otherwise had to have been incapacitated with batons and/or pepper spray - or worse. I have personally saved a suspect's life by using the taser in lieu of a firearm. I entered the suspect's home with taser (x26) in hand expecting a problem. The suspect was in the living room and armed with a large kitchen knife. As soon as he saw me he started to come towards me with the knife. The taser was effectively deployed. If I wouldn't have had the taser in my hand when I entered the home, the suspect would have been shot with a firearm in front of his mother. Taser saves lives!

She survived and months later delivered a healthy baby girl, she was also convicted of a traffic offence. I actually live in New Zealand and I am going to join the New Zealand Police Force next year. I know what scum they have to deal with, here in New Zealand we have some incredibly violent offenders who deserve to be treated with less respect than mud. Not every suspect is reasonable enough to be dissuaded by a pointed gun- that is to say they may not see it, understand the threat, or even care. A non-lethal option is a necessity, and as someone who knows how incredibly difficult it is to restrain with bare hands alone- without actually breaking things- I have to say the tazer is safer for everyone innvolved.
Yes, if an officer abuses the tazer and his authority he should of course be charged, investigated, dealt with, but you must ask yourself whether it's good to have 5 cases of a police officers abusing a non-lethal weapon or one wrongful fatal shooting.

The last video is especially misleading because it's so heavily edited. That woman was a BITCH. She was speeding and her license was suspended. Not only that, she tried to punch the backup cop. She was caught driving a car with expired plates (which usually means no insurance, which she indeed did not have), running a stop sign while speeding AND then running another stop sign after they turned on the blue lights to pull her over while she was trying to get her boo on the cellphone. There certainly are circumstances where its use is justified, and in such circumstances the Taser has done great good -- saved lives, even.
But to suggest that using it any time an officer encounters belligerence or hesitation is to support America's decline into a police state.

It is against the law to resist unlawful arrest. The taser is a great tool in the use of force continuim as the PR 24 baton. The taser is a better tool than OC spray.

now thats one side of the story, sure he wasn't trying to steal the baby off the mother or something? people shouldn't make assumptions just on one side or a story or only part of a story shown. how about people do what police say, and legally battle polices actions at the time later on. Its real easy to sit back and type negative comments about the police, but until you are face to face with a person who is aggressive, be it alcohol, metal health, drugs and no matter what you try to say and or do, they will react with hostility and at some point action will need to be taken. Where did you get that figure from? Having dealt with people with mental problems I can see where in some (but not all) cases, a Tazer would help to resolve the situation with the minimum amount of physical force and the minimum amount of injuries to those involved.

To be honest with you, it seemed as if you were promoting the use of the Taser. I did not see any misuse of it in this video (each of the officers in this vid appropriately used it according to U.S. laws). I would rather be Tazed than pepper sprayed anyway. You recover from the Taser quicker. If you want to see why police have to use it, look for the video "Tough? yes- But not TASER tough!"

that last cliop is a full video he actually gives her alot of time they just cut the clip for the taser. yes it sux bein tased my friends and i (dumb) bought one and used it but after several tests we have buikt up a tolerance to it although our heart rate was through th roof and my buddy was hospitalized we did have natural tolerance we used it in a normal fashion on repeated acounts. the taser should be banned

I've watched a few vids on here featuring people getting tazed, and am still puzzled as to why the police, having tazed someone still insist that the victim put his/her hands behind his/her back. Placing hands behind backs whilst lying face down and mobile involves some coordinated muscle movement. Being incapacitated under the same circumstances by tazing, involves greater coordination as the current exhausts muscle and confuses brain signals to nerves.

I'm with the video-maker on this one. The guy who was tazed 7 times would have had even more impairment of judgement and coordination. The police are using it more and more frequently as a form of corporal punishment. I advocate the use of it under special circumstances where dangerous overly aggressive suspects need to be restrained, but not for non confrontational behaviour.

In the last scene of this clip, the officer appeared to have made his decision to use it within a few seconds of dialogue. In that case it was unwarranted. It'll get to a point where it'll be taze first, ask the suspect to comply after. Much better training is required including better discernment, judgement and tact.

EVERY example of the taser use in the video was appropriate, and actually to the benefit of the subjects. Why? Because every one of them would otherwise had to have been incapacitated with batons and/or pepper spray - or worse. The idiot drunk who fought the officer would have been shot, and justifiably, if the taser had not been available.
I'd be interested to see what other groups the members of "Campaign Against The Taser" are in. 10-to-1 it's the usual array of "aNarKisTs" and leftists.

I have personally saved a suspect's life by using the taser in lieu of a firearm. I entered the suspect's home with taser (x26) in hand expecting a problem. The suspect was in the living room and armed with a large kitchen knife. As soon as he saw me he started to come towards me with the knife. The taser was effectively deployed. If I wouldn't have had the taser in my hand when I entered the home, the suspect would have been shot with a firearm in front of his mother. Taser saves lives!

She survived and months later delivered a healthy baby girl, she was also convicted of a traffic offence. The second pregnant woman tazered was arrested for battery, I guess thats some sort of assault? I have yet to find ANY proof of a baby's death due to the mother being tazered.

I actually live in New Zealand and I am going to join the New Zealand Police Force next year. I know what scum they have to deal with, here in New Zealand we have some incredibly violent offenders who deserve to be treated with less respect than mud. I would have absolutely NO problem in invoking the use of a Taser against an offender whose offensive actions are calling for it's dispatch. Even if that risked the offenders life I would unleash the Tasers power with pleasure.

It is just idiotic to compare New Zealand Police to thier U.S. counterparts. American Police treat every person they encounter as potentially deadly because firearms are so incredibly widespread over there. HandGUNS for private ownership are illegal here in New Zealand, so the Police here have no reason to invoke the Tasers use unless it is actually absolutely necessary, unlike the US Police who feel that almost every semi-heated situation warrents it's use.

all of the people were resisting arrest, and disobaying an lawful order by the police. that is illegal. taser is a great tool, there are no documented deaths from the taser. they save so many officers and suspects lives that you would be dumb not to use them. I have been shot many times in training and i am still alive, it hurts like hell, but when the 5 sec is up it is over, unlike using an asp, oc, or your gun. I have seen many get tased and i never saw anyone effected by it after it was done.

Interesting of note how many times in NZ an offender has been painted with the light of a tazer and surrendered, compared with how many times it has been discharged.
Most offenders respect the tazer gun knowing that for Police its a non-fatal means of subduing an offender, making it more reasonably deployable, leaving the constable only with a mountain of paperwork - not being investigated for a homicide.

Anything that can make others think about it. As I said, the tool's not the problem. On the other hand, a tazer's not that scary, and having a gun pointed at one's face should be convincing enough.

Not every suspect is reasonable enough to be dissuaded by a pointed gun- that is to say they may not see it, understand the threat, or even care. A non-lethal option is a necessity, and as someone who knows how incredibly difficult it is to restrain with bare hands alone- without actually breaking things- I have to say the tazer is safer for everyone innvolved.

Yes, if an officer abuses the tazer and his authority he should of course be charged, investigated, dealt with, but you must ask yourself whether it's good to have 5 cases of a police officers abusing a non-lethal weapon or one wrongful fatal shooting.

The last video is especially misleading because it's so heavily edited. That woman was a BITCH. She was speeding and her license was suspended. Not only that, she tried to punch the backup cop. The raw video is on the site. This campaign was a crock even before it started. I'm not condoning the use of Tazers any old time a cop feels like having fun, but base your arguments on genuine events in their ENTIRETY before pulling silly, uniformed campaigns out of your ass.

Tasers rule for two reasons. Not only is is wonderful for subduing suspects, but it makes these morons look like idiots as they shake uncontrollably and sometimes even piss their pants. Making these tards look stupid is almost as effective as a deterrent as is the prospect of jail time.

All the officers that used the Taser have been tased themselves. And yes it has killed a few people that had heart conditions, but when someone is resisting arrest you dont stop to ask them if they have any heart problems, that is just fucking stupid. Lightning kills more people each year than the taser, does that mean I can protest lightning because it killes people? So all you fucking morons that think the taser should be banned, ask your self this question, "would you rather be shot?"

When I was 17 two unarmed police officers beat the shit out of me on a street in invercargill. I was left in a bloody puddle. I can only be greatful they didn't have tasers. Tasers in the hands of the dogs that we call police here in NZ would be a disaster!

The taser is the way of the future in law enforceemnt. They don't kill, they apprehend. Its as painful as hell, but it's effects vanish the secound they stop.
it's true that the Taser hurts more than anygun, but it doesn't leave any wounds.

Excellent Law Enforcement Tool. Lots of suicidal people try to bait the Police into killing them. Tazers help the mentally ill survive to get treatment.

Honestly... It is still rather dangerous to have cops rolling around with suspects, male - female, slim or whatever. Seems drawing a gun on them and ordering them to halt doesn't work because either someone gets shot or someone calls your bluff.

The girl in the last scene was not simply pulled over for speeding. She was caught driving a car with expired plates (which usually means no insurance, which she indeed did not have), running a stop sign while speeding AND then running another stop sign after they turned on the blue lights to pull her over while she was trying to get her boo on the cellphone. She was not getting a ticket, she was getting arrested and she resisted. GO COPS!
