prob one of the most disappointing yet best moments in the movie is when joker says you and i are destined to do this forever. that was the perfect set up to bring the ongoing war between batman and joker for another movie and then the tragic passing of Heath occurred. this was definetly the best superhero movie easily.
This movie was magnificent, I have no complaints about it except one. Towards the end of the movie on the climatic scen where the Joker gives detonators to the passangers of two ferry boats , and gives them until midnight to detonate the bomb that will blow away the other boat., in the end no one uses the detonators.
Wether or not the Joker was double- crossing peole, i think it was a naive situation, sorry i have nt that much faith on mankind one of those boats would have blown away.

This concept has been around for a very long time (yes, even before 80's wrestling). It refers to the irresistible force paradox, and the omnipotence conundrum. I think Marvel used those concepts with the Blob and Juggernaut (although neither has been proven to be unstoppable, or immovable).

I agree with ya Kev. Spiderman 2 is the best superhero film in my opinion. I just couldn't get over the outstanding performance of heath ledger aka the joker. I was just shocked at how good he was. But all in all in my opinion it still dosn't beat spiderman 2.
Watched it three times and to be honest it wasn't that good, I was hoping for it to get better, but no. 1st bales batman vocal portrayal was horrible. He isn't Dirty Harry. 2nd the leading lady was a mutt. 3rd Two face was robbed out of a good sequel. 4th I was hoping for the Joker to be more insane/humorous/funny/brutal, a person who really enjoyed hurting others and laughed at them while doing it. Oh well, maybe they can hire the guy playing cobra commander and also acted in 3rd rock.
I think nolan delivered a very good interpretation of the joker that no other comic book had ever come close to. He's no longer this insane cartoonish character, who lost his marbles when he fell in a vat of acid (i mean, when the hell is that goign to happen?) Nolan portrayed him as a real man, a psychopath and anarchist who is truly an agent of chaos-he made him real, more threatening. I think his portrayal is masterful and a much needed re-do of the classic villian.
ok i'm biased as a batman fan but spiderman 2 doesn't come close to the Dark Knight. The spiderman films are too cartooney for me. Christopher Nolan made the Batman movies more believable to the audience

But I don't really think you can rank these superhero movies against each other. They each have their strong points. Spiderman2 looks at the hero confronting his balance with life
While The Dark Knigh looks at what the hero must do that's best for his community
Actually Heath tried to read the Killing Joke he actually couldn't get himself to read it...but I did notice the 'Venom' syndrome that occured with Two-face but one thing with the burnt side of his face is his eye, I was thinking of how dry that would be like is there a visine for that?
The sound mix was terible in parts, I'm going to have to get it and switch the subtitles on so I can know what the &@%* people are saying, the sound fx and music drowns the dialogue like in the most recent Transformers move. The Joker blew me away and Two-Face was grizzly. The part when the criminals cell phones rang was indescribeble!
No other character to be, but think of his former roles, Sweeney Todd, Edward Scissorhands, The character in the secret window, Captain Jack Sparrow, Depp is really great at playing wacky and creepy and odd characters and I think that he would be better than Jim Carrey, Depp is not only a great actor but after watching Sweeney Tood, I think he is the perfect actor of our time to play a Batman villain, especially one as twisted as Riddler.

A LOT of people, including myself, think of the Joker from BTAS as the most loyal rendition of the Joker in any media.
The Joker from TDK was terrific; Nolan and Goyer knew exactly how to make him as compelling and realistic as both a remorseless killer with a sadistic sense of humor and a criminal genius in the world they created.
Nevertheless, it is not entirely the Joker: Ledger's portrayal looks messy and menacing, while the one in the comics and the animated series looks refined and, in some cases, harmless; save for that wicked smile, of course, which hides his real nature.
Besides, the Joker in the movie seams almost invincible; I mean, how come his face didn't even bleed when Batman threw him to the looking glass of the interrogation room? And what about when he blew the police headquarters?
I hope I made my point and you start respecting other person's opinion.
Why does everybody say "fuck spider-man" just because maybe theres now a new "best superhero movie"? It's not cause something is better than the others suck... I know that this is going to go against what a lot of people think, but I dont think this movie was that well made. It was way too long, it had way to many plot points, and it had bad pacing. The story had way too many holes in it. All in all it felt like it was very sloppily thrown together. I do have to say though that I loved the way two face and joker were portrayed. They were awesome. I also thought the movie had cool themes. It just was that well made though.

I've seen the midnight premiere + gone to see it 5 other times & let me tell you, each time I watch it, it gets better & better. I'm soo excited for Watchmen to come out! The dark knight broke Spiderman's 3 opening day gross record and the opening weekend gross record in imax theaters, it's the largest superhero film opening to date and it is also the highest grossing comic book film of all time.
The movie IS the fuckin' shit. Spider-man 2 in comparison, is alright. Heath Ledger was phenomenal. Two-Face looked like the way he should. The new Bat-Suit looks awesome!

Besides the big funeral for him at the end, and the fact that he fell 5-10 stories and didn't even breath after the drop. Any ways in the early days and even previous Batman films, he has killed. Watch the first two Batmans with Michael Keaton, he has killed some people. And in previous comics, he even shot a guy out of a window! But they changed him to make him more of a hero. Rightly so, of course.
nothing to with previous batman films and this version of batman is based on the modern comics version the version that does not kill. and trust batman survived the drop so wouldn't two face think about it.

Anyways, great review Dcompose. The performance of Heath Ledger was amazing... personally, one of my favorite scenes in the movie was when Batman first met Joker. When he was coming onto Rachael.
Overall, I give this movie a 10/10. My favorite super hero film of all time equal to iron man and spiderman 2.

Yeah, that's an OLD phrase that Marvel used in describing those two. Also, I doubt Heath Ledger ad-libbed that line so it wouldn't really matter what comics he was reading.
Two-face is not likely to be dead. The fall wasn't that high and thats why Batman takes the blame(if two-face was dead batman wouldn't need to take the blame for the killings).
It seemed you missed the point of the ending. It's about sacrifice, Batman secrifices himself so that Dent could die a hero and the city would be able to keep it's hope for future.
I totally agree with the Juggernaut and Blob reference. I didn't buy Maggie Gyllenhall as Rachel, sorry. I know she acted her ass off, but I didn't buy it.

Best superhero movie ever? I am a big fan of plot/subplot development and loved X-Men 1/2, NOT 3, but Batman takes the title belt here. Put it this way, I felt it dragged a bit the 1st time I saw it (not that i don't have my nit-pickies too), but the 2nd time in IMAX and it was so fun to 'REALLY pay attention' that it seemed perfect! GREAT REVIEW!

I think the Joker in this movie is on par with the Joker from the animated series but for different reasons than the way Hammil was awesome as the Joker. Spider-man 2 and this movie are both awesome.
Two face did not necessarily die; they could have faked his death/burial and actually sent him to arkham (he could be unconscious in the end). Anyway, yeah, the movie was incredible.
I would love to see them do the next movies like the Dark Knight graphic novels where its an aged Bruce Wayne dealing with retirement and wanting to give up with the Batman persona, I really think that Nolan could handle something like that it would be interesting to see, and since he started with Batman Begins it would be fitting he does the Batman Ends!

A LOT of people, including myself, think of the Joker from BTAS as the most loyal rendition of the Joker in any media.
The Joker from TDK was terrific; Nolan and Goyer knew exactly how to make him as compelling and realistic as both a remorseless killer with a sadistic sense of humor and a criminal genius in the world they created.

Nevertheless, it is not entirely the Joker: Ledger's portrayal looks messy and menacing, while the one in the comics and the animated series looks refined and, in some cases, harmless; save for that wicked smile, of course, which hides his real nature.

Besides, the Joker in the movie seams almost invincible; I mean, how come his face didn't even bleed when Batman threw him to the looking glass of the interrogation room? And what about when he blew the police headquarters?

Why does everybody say "fuck spider-man" just because maybe theres now a new "best superhero movie"? It's not cause something is better than the others suck... And a superhero movie doesn't perse reflect how good the superhero is right? Batman's a great hero but Batman&Robin might be the worst superhero movie ever.... So does that make Batman bad? No it just means he had a bad director handle him. So everyone should stop saying Spider-Man's crap.

I know that this is going to go against what a lot of people think, but I dont think this movie was that well made. It was way too long, it had way to many plot points, and it had bad pacing. The story had way too many holes in it. All in all it felt like it was very sloppily thrown together. I do have to say though that I loved the way two face and joker were portrayed. They were awesome. I also thought the movie had cool themes. It just was that well made though.

I've seen the midnight premiere + gone to see it 5 other times & let me tell you, each time I watch it, it gets better & better. I'm soo excited for Watchmen to come out! The dark knight broke Spiderman's 3 opening day gross record and the opening weekend gross record in imax theaters, it's the largest superhero film opening to date and it is also the highest grossing comic book film of all time.

The movie IS the fuckin' shit. Spider-man 2 in comparison, is alright. Heath Ledger was phenomenal. Two-Face looked like the way he should. The new Bat-Suit looks awesome!

This movie was great but not the best that I've seen before. The first half of the movie grabbed me and intrigued me , but the second half got me less intrigued. Personally I don't think they should have had two face in this movie and just left it with the Joker. I give "Batman the dark knight." a 9/10...great review by the way...

but then again, batman's no hero. he's a guardian. he doesn't receive praise from the public. he does whatever he can to protect the city, even if it means destroying his reputation. he's a man of endurance, unlike the crying teenaged spider-man. maybe i'm just bitter after seeing spider-man 3?
in any case, i enjoyed dark knight much more. mostly because i'm a dc guy.

Besides the big funeral for him at the end, and the fact that he fell 5-10 stories and didn't even breath after the drop. Any ways in the early days and even previous Batman films, he has killed. Watch the first two Batmans with Michael Keaton, he has killed some people. And in previous comics, he even shot a guy out of a window! But they changed him to make him more of a hero. Rightly so, of course.

Anyways, great review Dcompose. The performance of Heath Ledger was amazing... personally, one of my favorite scenes in the movie was when Batman first met Joker. When he was coming onto Rachael.
Overall, I give this movie a 10/10. My favorite super hero film of all time equal to iron man and spiderman 2.

Two-face is not likely to be dead. The fall wasn't that high and thats why Batman takes the blame(if two-face was dead batman wouldn't need to take the blame for the killings).

It seemed you missed the point of the ending. It's about sacrifice, Batman secrifices himself so that Dent could die a hero and the city would be able to keep it's hope for future.

Best superhero movie ever? I am a big fan of plot/subplot development and loved X-Men 1/2, NOT 3, but Batman takes the title belt here. Put it this way, I felt it dragged a bit the 1st time I saw it (not that i don't have my nit-pickies too), but the 2nd time in IMAX and it was so fun to 'REALLY pay attention' that it seemed perfect! GREAT REVIEW!

I think the Joker in this movie is on par with the Joker from the animated series but for different reasons than the way Hammil was awesome as the Joker. Spider-man 2 and this movie are both awesome.

Two face did not necessarily die; they could have faked his death/burial and actually sent him to arkham (he could be unconscious in the end). Anyway, yeah, the movie was incredible.

I would love to see them do the next movies like the Dark Knight graphic novels where its an aged Bruce Wayne dealing with retirement and wanting to give up with the Batman persona, I really think that Nolan could handle something like that it would be interesting to see, and since he started with Batman Begins it would be fitting he does the Batman Ends!

second, dude you forgot to say that it really suck that time when batman removes the wall with a gun shot, analyse in his computer and the finger print IS STILL THERE, i mean, fingerprints are made of grease and it should be burned away...
