great post. I too remember watching TFE in black and white in the 60's - there was also 'the tinderbox' with the 3 huge dogs and 'the singing ringing tree' which was nightmarish and 'the boys who stole the moon' (didn't they put it in a rucksack?)
Us English got an hour of TV after school but we enjoyed classics such as Thunderbirds, Blue Peter. Crackerjack and Jackonory as well as the magic roundabout which turned us all into weirdo's! Happy Days.
I've never forgotten this story - yes it was scarey at the time. Wonderful to see again, I remember rushing home to see it from school. Thanks this was my most favourite!
A lot of 40+ people remember The tales of Europe series on BBC1. Beautiful, scary , fascinating and enchanting tales from far away lands.
The singing ringing tree is remembered by lots of people, and then I remember Snow white and the seven dwarfs, rumplestilskin, and the tinderbox but my sister loved this one!
I cant wait to tell her.
Tales of Europe were a product of a higher civilisation than ours, WE ARE NOT WORTHY.
