@SpadaccinoLuciano It didn't START with the Romans, the Romans adopted after Pagans were already doing it. Also, Roman's weren't Christian's and as such they're worship is also called pagan worship. Paganism is any worship that is non-Abrahamic in origin.
@SpadaccinoLuciano are you trolling me? :-p Saturnalia is still a pagan holiday because the Romans were pagans. Paganism is any worship that is non-Abrahamic in origin. eg: Judeo-Christian worship is basically the only thing not pagan.
@josephschaffer No, Im actually getting frustrated about something I know very little about. When I hear "pagan" I think people getting drunk and running around the woods naked, and when I hear "Roman" I think...well, you know, of Rome, art, culture, government, etc, and I dont want people getting the two mixed up.
@SpadaccinoLuciano You're associating paganism with Wicca. Understandable, as that is also paganism. LOL. But your limited understanding of Paganism doesn't make the Romans any less Pagan. :-p
@josephschaffer If it's anything that isnt Abrahamic, then even Taoism and Buddhism would be Pagan. Clearly, there needs to be a better organization. Thats not my fault. It's still Roman.
@SpadaccinoLuciano They are Pagan. Also, by your logic the identifier of "Christianity" is inappropriate because there are numerous religions under that title. "Paganism" isn't a bad word, it's a descriptor/identifier of a set of religions. A Hindu is to Paganism as a Baptist is to Christianity. Christianity isn't the religion, it's the identifier of a type of religion.
@SpadaccinoLuciano Just like with "Christianity" it's common knowledge that no matter what religion exists under that title, they all have the commonality of looking to the Bible and Jesus. Paganism identifies the rest, as they have their own holy writings and deities.
@SpadaccinoLuciano "I hate when people say "Pagan" It's Roman, damn it"
Lemme steer ya in the right direction: Roman Saturnalia, Mithra and the Mystery Religion's derives from the Brotherhood of the Snake. There was a reason why the Greek philosophers went to Egypt to seek wisdom, so don't try to focus on just Rome and Romans, the torch was handed to them! And now it's Jesuit Order{also the SMOM}that holds the Mysteries and that it self is some deep dodo.
Its just as much a Christian festival as it is Pagan, it like many other religious customs are intertwined. Islam, Christianity, Hinduism, Judaism etc... all stem from Zoroastrianism etc.. back to the old customs of the first people's of Sub Saharan Africa. The Romans also followed a mix of many beliefs over the years, constantly changing, and there is little doubt that the festival continued under Christian rule. Without Rome Christianity would be nothing.

Its winter solstice! Go on run naked in the woods with optional sacrifices, a lot more fun than wondering what the word "pagan" means.

@josephschaffer Paganism didnt start with the Romans, but Saturnalia did, so he should have said "Roman" instead of "Pagan".
