  • whut??? Isn't that Spencer from iCarly?

  • What's the difference between Windows' automatic registry backups and Mac's time machine? I mean besides the fancy name that is.

  • @1SapereAude1 Absolutely nothing.

  • "Hi, I'm a PC."

    "Hi, I'm an elitist cunt."

  • haha, for me this is a negativ ad for mac!

  • pc does have a time machine with xp and up it is called system restore

  • @matthew65536

System Restore is NOT Time Machine.

System Restore only backs up system files.

Time Machine backs up all files on your hard drive and does incremental backups every hour.

Time Machine is by no means the first backup utility ever invented, but it's a lot better than Windows "Backup and Restore".

It takes something like 5 clicks to configure and works flawlessly. Backup and Restore is a lot worse.

  • @Molo9000 <-Has never used a incremental backup system.

  • @SnoweyMan111

    um.

Can u explain why Time Machine is not an incremental backup system?

  • @Molo9000 No I simply meant that it's been around forever. It's true, apple constantly re-releases things and make them seem new.

Well hopefully it's incremental. Or "time machine" (terrible name imo) will fill your harddrive very quickly.

  • @Molo9000 but a mac doesn't have a really big hard drive when you first buy it a macbook air has a 50 some gigabyte drive. Plus what if you have a lot of stuff. see backup is better cause you can choose a drive to backup to Also time machine even if the previous files are the same it still re backs up every little change because you'll easily run out of space.

  • @matthew65536

    a) you can choose what drive time machine backups to. There would be no point to having a backup, if it's on the same drive as the original data. You can either backup to an external drive or to a network drive supporting AFP (apple filing protocol), which pretty much all NAS servers support these days.

  • @Molo9000 you could clone your drive just get a drive matching your current one in size it can keep track of updates and crap like that.

  • @matthew65536

That doesn't give me the advantage of having hourly/daily backups of recent work and backups dating back a few months.

Saving space really is not an issue for most people.

If it wasn't for the current HDD shortage you could buy a 2TB external HDD for $70, A 4-bay NAS server + 4 2TB harddrives (total of 5.5TB in RAID5) for less than $500.

  • @matthew65536

    b) time machine doesn't take up much space. My system drive has 130GB of data and my time machine backup takes up 226GB after about 3 months of backups. (hourly backups for the last 24horus, daily backups for the past month, weekly backups for all previous months)

If time machine runs out of space it simply deletes the oldest backup.

  • all this spite for a piece of silicon and plastic... CHILL!!!!!

  • @cosineninja macs are made of aluminum *insert trollface*

  • @ThePerfectShots fo shizzle

  • Isent that like backups that have existed on windows since the dawn of time?

  • the top of the macintosh line in 1993 was the macintosh quadra

  • mac's are more portable.

  • @matthew65536 HA! And thats the resone you use a mac? What does that mean if they dont work properly? There are tons of lighter normal PCs out there, with a lot better CPU speed.

  • @warior531 but macs have bigger hard drives and you don't have to upgrade their parts alot.

  • @matthew65536 Why wouldn't you have to? They are shit to begin with! I have a 700 gig harddrive, and my computer is 4 years old.

  • i hate mac but i like these things

  • how do you ACCIDENTALY delete a file?

  • @Kavaloosh you could mistake one thing for another.

  • still it sucks ass, cant play normal PC games on it!

  • whoa... both top comments are talking to each other...

  • errrrrrrrrm system restore?

  • implying macs arent pcs

  • @4kej That's the funny thing. Ever since they changed to Intel, they are just expensive PCs with a hipster OS.

  • pc=

Right click > Restore previous versions

@Markypizz Can open backup without backup too.

  • *cough* recycle bin *cough*

  • Err since Windows XP it's got a built-in file backup service called vshadow or VSS which makes a backup of any files altered. I can right click on any file, and choose from any time in the past to get the file back.

  • How much processing power and memory do those fucking backups consume?

  • pcs can do that too, wtf, thats lame

  • HELLO MR. ANDERSON, WELCOME TO THE MAC-TRIX.

  • With mac can't play Battlefield 3.

  • 76 PC users

  • lol pc look and acts Like my old manager.

  • RAID anyone? /yawn

  • AHH! whats with all the jews

  • I don't get it, why didn't they just give it a recycle bin?

  • I'm gonna yell "thanks PC" over and over tomorrow at school!

  • back up is bad thing othes ppl can get your fiels !

  • so basically it's just a safe recycle bin. wow. big deal.

  • @scir91 you don't have a clue at all, do you?

  • I'm on team Mac!! :)

  • Lol Windows based computers could do that when they introduced Windows XP. Good ol Apple copying another OS and claiming the feature to be breaththrough.

    BRB Notification Bar on iOS5

    BRB Sync wirelessly

BRB Nothing we do is innovative

  • @ojuLzo BRB counting how many ways youre wrong.

  • @ojuLzo Maybe I'd consider your argument if you had a little more than to minor features to say. May I remind you that the WHOLE UI in Windows is copied of Mac since Mac was the first OS with a UI

  • @jvpython

Untrue. Xerox' OS was the first one with a Graphical User Interface, which Apple stole. Since then, they have gone on to steal a lot of things, even some from Windows. When Windows 98 came out with a taskbar, Apple copied it and put a taskbar into OSX 9.0 about a year later. With OSX, Apple took an existing core OS and compiled a hybrid kernel based on open source software, and then charged for it. It's not a very good track record for Apple.

  • @MaestroDraven Well in Apples defense, they did buy the GUI from Xerox, but it was pretty dirty how they did it. Xerox really couldn't find a use for it (they were still thinking about personal use at the time) so Apple bought it off them for dirt cheap. But honestly, most of their "revolutionary ideas" really were stolen from others.

  • @wilhamlin

Correct, yes. Everything from the mouse, to the MP3 player, to the Tablet, to Cloud were all things invented by someone else. There haven't been any new inventions lately, which is why we're seeing nothing but small, unimpressive updates to Apple products. Lion was a huge letdown, Final Cut Pro X was received very poorly, the iPad 2 was a disappointment in the fact that it only managed to get what smartphones already had. Even the Mac Pro doesn't have Thunderbolt.

  • @MaestroDraven I really don't think the Mac Pro will get thunderbolt. Since the Mac Pro is most likely going to be kicked by the wayside (my prediction is 6-12 months) I guess Apple decided that it'd be a waste of money. But I think my favorite "invention" by Apple is SIRI. I've had people show off their phone to me, and I tell them my Google G1 has an app like that lol

  • @wilhamlin

That was my thought, too. For them to skimp on a feature like Thunderbolt on their flagship unit did seem a little conveniently timed. 75% of Mac sales are laptops, but even so, the iMac benefits far better from this feature. It would make little sense to add it into the Mac Pro which is dying a very slow death. As for SIRI, it's just technology licensed from DARPA. Something else Apple hasn't invented.

  • @MaestroDraven That 75%, is that all Mac sales for their computers, or is that all sales including iPhone, iPod etc.? Because it does seem a bit high to be the latter.

  • @wilhamlin

No, 75% is just Macintosh computer sales.

  • @ojuLzo

Sure, keep telling yourself that... That's why the Macbook Air has been copied by virtually every windows pc maker with so called "Ultra-books"... wonder where they got that idea from ?

  • @accordguy0325 I wouldn't really say it would be copying if you are talking about the thickness. They probably made them thinner just to stop people from whining about thickness.

  • So? What do we have to do now with this idiotic commercial? Go and buy some idiotic macintosh?

  • @MrSmachies No, it doesn't affect files... I was trying to restore a file that I accidentally deleted a month ago, and i was pissed because system restore did naffall.

  • Windows does that too....

  • So pretty much when you delete a file that, lets just say, 1gb, it goes to the time maschine, but a file just CAN'T dissapear, so lets just say it leaves like 10mb. So when all that sums up, you run out of space AND don't have any files.

  • @MrSmachies lol, That's not what these ads say... "Hi, I'm a Mac and I'm a PC"...Apple classifies the PC as something not made by them and a Mac as something made by them and runs OSX

  • @simtimesfive Yes, the ad is SHOWING that a PC can't do it, that's the point of the advertistment, this is the point of ALL the Get a Mac Ads, it's to show what a Mac can do that a PC can't, especially keep away thousands of viruses and headaches

  • What is a CD Burner?

  • @Tamanozke why are you asking that here? Herd of google?

  • @ElderScrollesRulez: It was sarcasm. The PC could achieve the same effect with a CD Burner.

  • Pc's come with it, Macs dont...

  • @MrFel99 Actually it does, for free

  • lol, PC has this function too, the only reason people don't use it is because it takes up space, Mac users only make a big deal out of this cos

1)They have no idea that backing up takes up space because they don't even know how much space they have on the Mac, or they didn't even know such a thing exist. or

    2) They can't find a way to turn off the backing up and are in denial...

  • Actually my pc can do somthing better. System restore.

  • @TheChickeneer Yeah,it's a pity system restore doesn't restore personal files thou, you still need to back it up yourself...

  • @wongzi1986 Yah but thats not that hard to press ctrl+s

  • the time machine also represents all the skipping on games you play on MAC

  • lol it's so funny how all these PC users seem so mad and bitter on here...well it makes sense. They're PC users after all.

  • @urbanempress yes, they are mad and bitter at all the lies and bs propaganda that translates from dealing with iTards in real life. Especially at university.

  • @daymyth ah see ure lackin the mac creativity here. if you had said iDiots it would have been better than iTards ;-)

  • @urbanempress No, that would not have been an apt reference. The inclusion of the letter i is what precedes an actual word and not included in the word its self. iCould, iPhone, iPad.... iTard....

It makes perfect sense, "it just works". Pity you didn't get that....

  • @daymyth pity i dont get that? lmao woooow get some sense of humor n lighten up. geeez

  • @urbanempress rofl.... Wow that's really ironic. That was actually a joke as well... one you didn't get either.... rofl... ahhh iTards... your hilarious...

  • @daymyth and actually following your logic of just putting an i in front of a complete word it should be iRetard as there is no such word as "tard" and it's you're not your smh

  • @urbanempress I expressly didn't want to use that word for a reason. I think its very offensive to use and demeans the people with mental retardation and I in no way wanted to demean those people by using the word let alone comparing them to a mac user. The Tard (synonymous with Tart specifically females) is a colloquialism that very significantly separates it from the rather ugly way to describe the mentally handicapped.

  • @daymyth seriously? who do you expect to believe that? If you had REALLY meant that then you would have put iTarT not tard! and frankly why would you even use a british slang word for a loose woman as a joke to a mac user? that doesn't even make any sense at all. frankly, you are just trying to find an excuse for your silly statement. Which makes it even sillier in fact.

  • @urbanempress maybe because I'm Australian and tard is a euphemism we use? Me and my friends have been using iTard for ages... ever since the iCloud legislation incident, it's an intellectual property joke at heart.... And at the time I didn't use retard for that same reason, gosh even typing it out is difficult, it's like faggot, just saying it feels wrong when you're talking about people...

  • @daymyth and by the way for it to be considered a joke it has to be funny or at least include some kind of punchline. your statement was just stupid, serious and hateful. so how could anyone consider that a joke *sigh* anyhow, you use a a pc. how would you even understand the concept of humor or creativity. I'm out. adios amigo

  • @urbanempress you were out along time ago....

  • @daymyth *yawn* you are so uncool. that ish may be considered funny down under but here.. not so much. God bless the queen. peace.

  • @urbanempress yes, because the internet is restrained to a unique geographical location and everyone who uses it comes from there... right... like I said you were out along time ago.... the more you type the more apparent that becomes. I think you should just go away and try to play a .flac file...

  • PC also has a time machine........ it's called the RECYCLE BIN

  • Loll why does everyone get so heated about these commercials? They're cute. And they are meant to make Mac look better because.... they are mac commercials. I know its crazy but that's how it works.

  • @Nowatermelons yea but 99% of mac commercials are attacking PC. Showing their desperate attempt to gain some advantage over a PC when infact they don't. When u see commercials they don't usually attack their competitors unlike the Mac.

  • He changes his clothes every hour?!?

  • @Teumoteum Has too; cause hes full of shit

  • @Teumoteum Yeah but it costs $399.99 for each change

  • yeah both can backup, but the great thinng about time machine is that you can access any file from within the backups, without having to restore an entire backup.

  • @Markypizz great part about windows is that when u accidentaly change a fiel name and dont rename it, it doesnt dissapear... so yeah, if macs didnt pul lthat crap, there would be no problem

  • @belgianpokemaster it doesn't disappear, that's odd. must be some kind of glitch. it will stay as the old file name I believe, but it won't go away.

  • @Markypizz what is backup and what is the point of it?

  • @Markypizz Not every PC backup requires you to restore an entire backup to retrieve a file. A lot of them, including the most popular ones, do exactly what Time Machine does but with more flexibility.

  • @iinspectra How can you get more flexibility than Time Machine? It already has all the features you could possibly need to mange backups. Plus less chance of crashes or corrupting unlike PC lol

  • @jvpython If you seriously think PCs have a realistic risk of crashing/corrupting, then you're exactly the type of brainwashed Apple follower who there's no point arguing with.

  • LoL Youtube is full of PC's ^^

  • just look at mac and pc which would you hire... yeah we all know its pc but who would you smoke pot and hang out with.. mac they both are good in different ways

  • p.s. i was kidding

  • If you accidentally delete a file you can easily restore it.

  • guys... Windows CAN'T win, get over it, it's full of virus, full of fail security, full of crap...

  • @r0dybuen0

And on the most Computers in the world :D

  • @r0dybuen0 the only reason people make viruses for pc instead of mac is because pc has more users so if mac won than pc would have less viruses and video games and still have all the features mac claims to be original so mac cant win either so linux wins

  • FUCK YOU MACCCCCC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • It seems like a huge waste of file space to me

  • so many people complain that macs can't play computer games and pc's can play almost if not all computer games. just buy an X-Box 360 or a PS3. computer games suck anyways. Mac<3

  • to the two top comments, if this commercial is getting you pissed off, then it's doing it's job. If you're happy with your computer, that's great. That's what it's all about, finding a computer that works for YOU. I love how these commercials create more flame wars than political ads haha.

  • And? Windows has a beater time machine System restore! It took mac 8 years to coppy that out and make it actualy work.

  • @kidlink4OoT Did you mean "beAter" or "better".

  • or what we like to call recycle bin

  • SAY WHAT YOU WHANT BUT PC RULZZZZ

  • I don't like how macs outdate pretty quickly. Debate.

  • u can do that on a pc to its called the recycling bin

  • I just read a comment about someone saying 'PC has system restore as standard'. Hmmmm. Yea, system restore is a great idea and I guess in principle, is sort of like time machine, the only difference? Time machine actually works! I had a windows PC for years. 4 over 10 years to be exact. And when it came to actually using system restore on my old XP machine?.. It told me it couldn't restore. At all. Yes, Macs are expensive. But at least they are not crap that needs the system flushed every year

  • what kind of idiot would buy a mac? if you hate windows then use linux on a pc... it actually can run with wine more games than macs

if windows or ubuntu is hard to use then maybe you are a retard

  • I swear these ads pray on idiots who know nothing about computers.

  • @LarryBundyJr You spelled prey wrong,..

  • These ''get a mac'' ads are so full of shit.System restore is a standard feature from micro$oft for years now.Mac ads one feature to their OS and makes a whole TV ad out of it.Face it MS has 90% of the worldwide market and they don't need to make these stupid ads.I.M.O people like me would rather changed to Linux before buying an OVERPRICED mac.

  • Wow seems so handy! Now my hard drive is full 10 times faster!

  • Notice how ALL these "Mac vs PC" or "Get a Mac" never have anyone saying Mac is better than a PC, they all just say that PC has what Mac has, only they had it before Mac and it's become to natural people don't bother mentioning it.

  • @Kasra910 you can right click the file in Time Machine mode and delete all backups. Time Machine only store all files once and new copies of files when they're changed. And I believe in most file types it only stores the changes instead of the copies. I'm not sure of though.

  • the gmod idiotbox version is better

  • And that is why i dont wanna mac

1: it fills your file with junk copies

2: what if you WANT to erase a file?

  • TAIMSHEEN.

  • @AfterEffectsLova Copy pasta.

  • Q: ihow imuch ispace ido ineed ifor ithese ifucking ibackups igazilione ibackups?

    A: I like turtles

  • @tomislavlac That made my day! *Goes to watch llamas in hats*

  • @tomislavlac I've had an iMac with a 1tb HD for over a year, have close to 50GB used, and my backups don't exceed 200GB even with all the films I have saved on the same volume. I've never deleted a backup. So yeah.

  • System Restore! came to Windows ME in 2000

Time machine came to lepord in 2008 FAIL!!!!

  • @insanepenguinjohn ...learn about mac timemachine..its more than a windows system restore...

  • @insanepenguinjohn Time Machine is faster.

  • @insanepenguinjohn And Windows ME was the best OS ever, it also had the feature of NOT WORKING :D

  • @FeeLtheHertZ Vista had that feature to!

  • @insanepenguinjohn System restore sucks! Time Machine is awesome!!!

  • @Fredrik2012 Lolno

  • @pancakezombie13 tested system restore, you cannot use system restore if your pc is not working. That i'm calling crap!

  • @Fredrik2012 Well, you can but there are only specific things that can keep your computer from turning on like a harddrive failure but all computers suffer that, even if a windows computer isnt working properly you can still use system restore.

  • @Fredrik2012 besides we have something called a "recycling bin" we can restore whatever files we deleted and we don't need that time machine crap that just takes up space

  • @pancakezombie13 lol mac too

  • @Fredrik2012 Then doesn't that defy the point of time machine? besides system restorer doesnt restore files....

  • @insanepenguinjohn it would work if most viruses woudnt embed themselves in the system restore. and it isnt a good feature anyway cause it doesnt back up any of your files & deletes all of your recent changes when you do want to restore 1 file.. time machine is a backup system - completely different to system restore !!

  • @saturnGEEK im sure if osx had more malware viruses could exploit time machine to

  • @insanepenguinjohn Different System, Time machine is a data protection for your work and requires a separate partition which keeps a duplicate of *your documents* system restore only brings your configuration back to a date. Time machine let's you go back in time with your own files. I haven't seen anything this simple on Windows yet.

  • @insanepenguinjohn to tell the truth pc only restores the programs not the files

  • @gmailspider wrong man system restore restore all of the settings programs files that was saved at that time you wanted to

  • @insanepenguinjohn oh yeah!

  • @insanepenguinjohn System restore blew dick though. FACT

  • @insanepenguinjohn System restore doesn't restore files. Fail.

  • @insanepenguinjohn except System restore doesn't restore files. It just restores the system settings. FAIL!!!!

  • System Restore!

  • wow, i soooooooo want a mac now because i am soooooooooo dumb that i delete all my files for no reason.

    *sarcasm*

  • well mac migthhave that but at lease pc solve your problem in case you erase an important file and it get's it back so what is the big deal with mac i bet it does even fix thing when it come to system restore

  • wait Macs are trying to look good but now thats just weird

  • Windows got this feature too. 70% of these comercials are just pure lies.

  • @Ericnorify seconded

  • @Ericnorify this was before windows did.

  • @Ericnorify Windows got these features after mac did. When these commercials were made, it was accurate. Windows just copies mac.

  • @Ericnorify he never said he didn't =P

  • @Ericnorify That's a lie. All of them all, not just 70%.

  • Shadow Copy FTW

  • windows got this feature too XD. So yeah, mac, that's definitely a fail XD
