@TheFailBin The only way that you can see a one ship vs entire fleet battle is when said ship is a Starbase or either the fleet or ship is stationed at a planet when attacked.
Looks like nothing but a movie. Is this some kind of replay mode? It looks like youre not commanding the ships at all... AAA Graphics dont make an AAA Game. I still play Master of Orion 1 and 2 because of this retard trend in modern commercial games.
@depth386 Dude, Galactic Civilizations is one of the classics, its not a "modern commercial game." You don't personally control ships during battle, instead you move your fleets on the galactic map and when they meet the game calculates their stats and decides who wins and which ships take however much damage etc. The battles in this video are automated battle scenes that can be skipped if you don't feel like watching them, since they don't really affect anything.
@depth386 The game isn't even really about the battles either. You can literally win the game without ever building a single warship. You could use diplomacy to trick other races into fighting for you, or use it to ally with others for a diplomatic victory. Then there's cultural victory which should be obvious, and research victory as well. This is hardly a "war" game. Its more of an empire sim in space that happens to feature combat.
@OmegaHunter24 My arguement stands. The game designers should have put their efforts elsewhere. It is obsurd to take the time to program a tactical battle movie mode that gets old after a few views and has no actual value in terms of the game's logic or the player's decision making. In a game with a large galaxy the battle-movie is probably skipped 99% of the time. I'm not saying the whole game is bad but really this feature is a brutal waste of effort.
i just bought dread lords a few days ago (and beat it) and i cant find any mods, and also, is the arnor expantion a buy only thing? cuz dread lords is starting to get boring already.
(i tried the starwars mod, but it crashed my game)
awesome vid mate that must have been an epic war. I remember being in a similar situation on sins of a solar empire, by the time me and my biggest rival had gotten through everyother faction and met in the middle of the map we both had pretty much maxed out fleets and the economy to replace losses for a long while, by the end no one really had a fleet left :D
does this game has similar battle style similar to the game "Sins of a Solar Empire"? are the battles here RTS, Turn-Based. or just plainly simulated? I need some answers because Im deciding whether to get this or "Sins of a Solar Empire".
@sugarxplum69 The Terror Star in Twilight of the Arnor can destroy planets, however it takes MANY turns of research. The United Planets council can also vote to outlaw the construction of them.
actually everyone, the Terror Stars blow up stars. But they also take out the planets around them. They can be very devastating. The only problem is that they are slow, and weak. One enemy ship with a weapon that does only 1-damange point can blow the whole thing to smithereens, which sucks. Most of my ships move around 21+ parsecs (squares) a turn. Terror stars can only move 1/turn! Best bet is to establish "space superiority" in enemy territory, build Terror Star next to star, then blow it up.
ehh, the only problem though is bringing in enough troop-ships to conquer the planet. Spore ships are the best though. Terror Stars are mainly available if you just want to be a A-hole to another civilization and do overkill.
i really enjoy the game, hope gal civ 3 is even better. I like your choice of music too, sounded like Conan the barbarian and Babylon 5 soundtracks :)
depends on what you enjoy more. Civ 4 is based on citys/countrys building up on a single planet. (i assume its earth but you can do random continents and land types. )
While Gal Civ 2 is based on massive empire building with multiple planets, space ships and fleets. The only armies you deal with are for invading planets, but you can just bombard them until the pop is dead then re colonize it.
My opinion is Gal Civ 2 is much more fun that civilization 4, but i enjoy space empire games more.
ThePixelChaos is pretty much spot on. Both games have very similar gameplay mechanics minus a few differences here and there. The question ultimately lies in what interests you the most. Conquering space, or conquering a sole planet. They are both very fun in my opinion but I will have to admit a preference with Civilization because it just feels familiar to me. I hope you make a good choice. Game on.
@men808 I personally enjoy GalCiv2 more than Civ4 because I like space games more, the battles, if you want them to be are more detailed than Civ4's, the fact that invading a planet and decimating the planets defenses are two separate things, and, last but not least, you can make... YOUR OWN DEATHSTAR!!! You can make a special star base that, EXPLODES, any stars, and therefore the planets of that star into mineable asteroid clusters, which is pure awesome.
one problem is if you build a customer ship using tech you researched, and then want to play a new game using the saved ship templates, you'll have to wait until you research the same techs again before you can build it. I think it's lame because the ship "parts/shapes" don't require tech to research! Otherwise, you have to tediously rebuild it from memory. Even worse if you used tech an alien race traded to you. heh.
no mods, but i am using customized buildings (made with the Improvement Editor) to speed up the game. not cheating either since i set it to where the AI makes it a priority to build the same stuff. So I might build 1000 ships and the AI will also build a 1000 ships that are a serious threat. I have a game going on a couple of months now.
Heh, I loaded up Twilight of the Arnor and started on an immense galaxy. I've been playing for three months and I think I've only covered a quarter of the total map.

Whats with the negative comment? First of all this is 4X genre (not to be confused with X series such as X3), RTS style combat isn't the major point in this genre. Go play Eve-Online, X3, or Sins of a Solar Empire if you want space combat. Second, just because it isn't your dear old skool Master of Orion, doesn't mean it has to be an exact clone of it.
GC2 is better in term of depth and strategic gameplay. Customization is always a plus in my book ever since I played Metal Fatigue (I'm sure you never heard of it, google it for more info). Sins is fun for space fleet battles and tactical gameplay (something I wanted since Homeworld). To be honest, the better one is outside those two. Sword of the Stars, best of both elements.
sins of a solar empire isn't THAT good , I find it dull , repetitive but also quite innovative. If you had more ships and races it would be cool. and a little bit of customization would be cool as well. that would be really innovative, to be able to customize ships just like in galciv 2.
great video , nice ships, yours need more defence :)
im playng this game from the first galactic civilizations, and the last addon "TwilightOf The Arnor" is the best by far. i have lots of ships made by myself , some original some inspired by movies like SG1 , but im a newbie at video editing. maybe u can send me a link with a good software and i will show u mines :)
Space Combat is controlled entirely by the computer.
The only thing this game is missing is multiplayer. The AI is a very challenging opponent so you won't miss people at first. Multiplayer has been rumored in GalCiv3 though.
if i build a ship and my BC goes into for example, negative 30,000, how , next turn, does it end up being negative 2,000? is this a bug? i only make about 462 bc a turn.
If you go under negative 500 bc, the computer will automatically sell off enough of your buildings and ships to reduce debt to a more reasonable level.
looking for hints and stuff now for the game, i usually play at like genius lvl vs computer and have to take the game slow against 7-9 opponents but end up financing largest ships and that's the only thing i finance
they are purple because by this stage of the epic game most had the strongest lasers (death rays which are purple). to use anything less is to get your ass kicked. I wish you can customize the look of the weapons. As for the rest, this was on MAX detail, so that is all you get for explosions unfortunately
this game is flawed in so many ways; it could have been perfect; they should do an exact remake of master of orion 1, keeping just the space battles of galactic civilizations 2
sounds epic man and awesome. when i defeated the drengin i was out numbered by far and out gunned. i had extended much and they threatened me so i decided ill hit them before they hit me. I invented Medium sized ships with my econ then used minor race and much trading to get my first medium ships out. I then conquered them one planet at a time. Killed the fleets who had left for my airspace and caught em up. Then i hit there home world slaughtering 14 billion more, They surrended rite away =]
i always attack with every means nessercery. I offer crap useless tech that is no longer needed or which they will gain benefit for them to fight for me sometimes ect. I sell and get most my funds from the minor civs so i can feul fast ecconomic expansion, then use my extra power to build ships and dominate. At the start i powerhouse on the colaniseing planets fast. It works evry well all together. Maximum effect and expansion and power.
i noticed if you colonize a planet, even with 100 people or something, you can always build on it later. lay claim for now, raise it up later. i usually play games on the super-epic sized maps, everyone has max tech (Except for speciality stuff the is researched). i also play against custom races and use custom structures that give tons of points to industry, economy. This allows for games where its anywhere from 1,000 ships vs 1,000 across hundreds of worlds.
i have a fast system with good memory, the game maps i play on can bring it too its news with load times. it takes me forever to get through one turn to manage by uber-sized empire. i play against the max# of major races and use the cheat to add max# of minor races (like 12 i think it is), to make it more fun. i have a population of like 1.5 trillion right now. normal games, planets can get a rating of up to around 26 or 30. in mine, planets can get to around 100. again, EPIC gameplay.
*of course i meant "bring it to its knees" lol; in the videos i was up againt the Thalan, they had like 2000 ships, i had around 1700. they were tough, they had all the most advanced weaps and stuff too. by the end of the war trillions died. I made peace at one point, moved "constructors" right next to their major star systems' stars, built Terror Stars. And simultaneously blew up about ten of their largest star systems. they lost hundreds of ships in this attack. my terror stars were taken out.
i never lay claim to my closest world mars im to busy gaining other worlds besides if someone claims it they lose it cos of influence. some planets esecailly low numbered ones, I gain with a small few peeps and name them outposts, then build defence stations near them payed for by trade and bribes =].I ALWAYS play on the largest maps with the most people and i don make it easy for me i place it on the hardest settings alsmot now. My empire is called THE IMPERIUM OF MAN. =] Yeah it is EPIC!!! =]
im cureently in a major war with the jarred knife civilization of pirates and the lil insect things attacked me the thalns im wipeing them out and we were allies. Someone in one of my corporations killed there leader so we went to war after they attacked me. DRENGIN AND KORATH CLAN THREATENED ME SO I TOOK EM DOWN lol. altarians attacked me with torians so i took em both down. Altarians race is my next target soon. =]
i had to switch my weapons from lasers to mass drivers because the altarians had heavy doodie forcefiled tech they sold to all. Everyone thought they were safe but i switched ship designes lol =]
Love this game im currently in a war vs the drengin empire over coloniseing worlds, they threatened me once and now they have some worlds i want! SO IT WAR BABY :D lol
I always wage war through proxies (have someone else do it for you, like the minor races). i'm locked into an epic game right now where im supply money, tech, bases and ships. it's great! The ships i give them are custom armed/designed so they do not have an edge over me. by taking on these "gifts" it drains their economy so they run to me for more aid, and slows down their research/development of their own top of the line ships. MUHAHAHA!
well i killed them drengins they surrendered to me, im now an economic powerhouse and my fleets are the strongest out. Only i have large ship building cababilites, the difficultie i placed on toughest now. Is hard at first to get going somtimes =], is fun cos if u do get in a war u really do have a chance of dieing at that level. Noone can stop me at the min its cool and a plauge is wipeing out the korath clan i have not offered them the cure but have all others lol. It cost them all alot lol :P
Get them all! You can probably buy them all together, I've seen GalCiv II sold with Dark Avatar included. Buy that, then get Twilight of the Arnor. Dark Avatar makes the game run faster. But Twilight of the Arnor also makes the game EVEN MORE faster, it also improves the graphics and you still get better framerates, plus it adds tons of stuff (editors, new techs, more bells and whistles), it's worth every dime.
i should add that the space-combat FX you see in this video are exclusively from Twilight of the Arnor expansion because it improves the graphics/FX. If I filmed this with the regular game or Dark Avatar it's has "fugly" FX.
wat do u mean by standalone. because theres the orignal galciv: dreadlords, then theres dark avatar expansion, and twilight of arnor expansion. stardock also says that they are going to create another galciv iii...i hope so :)
i play this game like 2 week and after some time in my game come large squid....WTF? i cant destroy this shity squid...I losse every ship and starbase i build...and allways attack me hahah! lol! How to erase this squid from game or destroy this shit?
Yeah I like this game but there are a lot of WTF incidents in there. For example, I was building up my forces at the border and then some piece keepers came and chewed up all my freakin units! So I've turned off enable unbalancing events, and only have it on when playing against smart AI.
it depends on what the computer players are putting on their ships. if you plan war against one, or think one will attack you, look at how their ships are configured (how many points they have in lasers, missiles, mass drivers & shields, armor, and Point-Defense). So if for example they are powerful with guns and weak on Point-Defense (anti-missiles), then make ships strong in Shields (anti-laser) and strong in Missiles (to exploit his weak PD/anti-missile defense).
I normally max out on weapons during peace - good versus everything as long as a specific enemy isnt prepared for oyur ships. In war time I will create and draft new ship designs for specific enemy. Often though I dont worry about defense at all and have a primary then small secondary weapon incase they have shields of some sort
Definitely an impressive collection of battles. I have to say, the ability to create your own ships' design is an interesting concept to say the least.
Out of curiousity, what's the music playing during the video? I don't recognize it, but it has a very epic, war-like feel to it, complimenting the battles well. It seems to change styles rather infrequently, though... more than one music track, perhaps?
there are lots of other cool weapons in the game not shown (you see like 5% of what's out there). the problem is, in these battles i had to arm my ships with the most powerful weapons. computer had them too. it was brutal. maybe in another vid.
GalCiv II's latest expansion, Twilight of the Arnor is utterly brilliant. It updates the graphics and makes the game run faster (not like it matters on my machine). The battles look cool (in my vid, you only see several weapons but there are TONS). The old graphics for GalCivII's battles looked like ASS. they still dont look as good as they could but are still 100x better than how they were. the Sound Effects are 100x better too.
custom made with the in-game editor. i think used the dominion or korx "style" but you can really use any in the game since you can snap the ships together from the library of "parts", like playing with virtual legos, sort of lol. i went with black/purple colors.
@TheFailBin The only way that you can see a one ship vs entire fleet battle is when said ship is a Starbase or either the fleet or ship is stationed at a planet when attacked.

Sins is fun for space fleet battles and tactical gameplay (something I wanted since Homeworld). To be honest, the better one is outside those two. Sword of the Stars, best of both elements.
walkerk19 2 years ago
Very cool, thanks. That's a lot of great info. I'll take a look at some of those other games.
TheOnlineCommunity 2 years ago
sins of a solar empire isn't THAT good , I find it dull , repetitive but also quite innovative. If you had more ships and races it would be cool. and a little bit of customization would be cool as well. that would be really innovative, to be able to customize ships just like in galciv 2.
r4v3nh34rt 2 years ago 2
Have you tried Sword of the Stars? With all of the expansion packs it's quite good. You can get the whole package cheap nowadays.
walkerk19 2 years ago
yes , i have the game. But it's quite simple when it comes to management and systems have only one planet =(
r4v3nh34rt 2 years ago
What race are you using and what base type for the ships? Just out of curiosity.

im playng this game from the first galactic civilizations, and the last addon "TwilightOf The Arnor" is the best by far. i have lots of ships made by myself , some original some inspired by movies like SG1 , but im a newbie at video editing. maybe u can send me a link with a good software and i will show u mines :)

Impressive!
I'm checking this game out. The demo is good so far.
Is space combat turn by turn controlled by the player or does the computer control the combat?
And how good is mulitplayer?
thanks!
theanvil3514 2 years ago
Space Combat is controlled entirely by the computer.
The only thing this game is missing is multiplayer. The AI is a very challenging opponent so you won't miss people at first. Multiplayer has been rumored in GalCiv3 though.
acole07 2 years ago
You won't notice multiplayer missing after a while, no people talking crap online.

Good game, I had dendency to build huge warcruisers which were good targets for enemy ships... next time Ill make even bigger and badder ship, haah
DarkLordG3OriginalMe 2 years ago
if i build a ship and my BC goes into for example, negative 30,000, how , next turn, does it end up being negative 2,000? is this a bug? i only make about 462 bc a turn.
exaurius 2 years ago
If you go under negative 500 bc, the computer will automatically sell off enough of your buildings and ships to reduce debt to a more reasonable level.
sv0lech 2 years ago
it's higher than -500, at that level they just wait until you earn your way out of it.
acole07 2 years ago
looking for hints and stuff now for the game, i usually play at like genius lvl vs computer and have to take the game slow against 7-9 opponents but end up financing largest ships and that's the only thing i finance

question, can you up the graphic detail for more awesome explosions, or is that it?
also, can you shoot green lasers instead of purple?
nice vid
zombine210 3 years ago
they are purple because by this stage of the epic game most had the strongest lasers (death rays which are purple). to use anything less is to get your ass kicked. I wish you can customize the look of the weapons. As for the rest, this was on MAX detail, so that is all you get for explosions unfortunately
myster1234 3 years ago
yeah my only real complaint about the game's visual presentation would have to be the guff explosions
that and I'm not thrilled with the look of most of the race's in the game
Ironzealot7531 3 years ago
I think you can make your own race, and put your own picture there. Yeah the other races could do with a makeover. One with 3 breasts perhaps.

i got a question for all of you:
what is a better game?
galactic civilazations 2 endless universe or
X3 terran conflict?
cocoman11111 3 years ago
completely different gamestyles man!!!
one is a first person singleplayer living universe, the other is a strategic/gestional turn based game!!

already founded it out :P
ty for replying anyway ^^
but is this a game to give 40 euros for?
(im dutch)
cocoman11111 3 years ago
this game is flawed in so many ways; it could have been perfect; they should do an exact remake of master of orion 1, keeping just the space battles of galactic civilizations 2

sounds epic man and awesome. when i defeated the drengin i was out numbered by far and out gunned. i had extended much and they threatened me so i decided ill hit them before they hit me. I invented Medium sized ships with my econ then used minor race and much trading to get my first medium ships out. I then conquered them one planet at a time. Killed the fleets who had left for my airspace and caught em up. Then i hit there home world slaughtering 14 billion more, They surrended rite away =]
DanielofDoria 3 years ago
i always attack with every means nessercery.
DanielofDoria 3 years ago
i noticed if you colonize a planet, even with 100 people or something, you can always build on it later. lay claim for now, raise it up later. i usually play games on the super-epic sized maps, everyone has max tech (Except for speciality stuff the is researched). i also play against custom races and use custom structures that give tons of points to industry, economy. This allows for games where its anywhere from 1,000 ships vs 1,000 across hundreds of worlds.
myster1234 3 years ago
i have a fast system with good memory, the game maps i play on can bring it too its news with load times. it takes me forever to get through one turn to manage by uber-sized empire. i play against the max# of major races and use the cheat to add max# of minor races (like 12 i think it is), to make it more fun. i have a population of like 1.5 trillion right now. normal games, planets can get a rating of up to around 26 or 30. in mine, planets can get to around 100. again, EPIC gameplay.
myster1234 3 years ago
*of course i meant "bring it to its knees" lol; in the videos i was up againt the Thalan, they had like 2000 ships, i had around 1700. they were tough, they had all the most advanced weaps and stuff too. by the end of the war trillions died. I made peace at one point, moved "constructors" right next to their major star systems' stars, built Terror Stars. And simultaneously blew up about ten of their largest star systems. they lost hundreds of ships in this attack. my terror stars were taken out.
myster1234 3 years ago
i never lay claim to my closest world mars im to busy gaining other worlds besides if someone claims it they lose it cos of influence. some planets esecailly low numbered ones, I gain with a small few peeps and name them outposts, then build defence stations near them payed for by trade and bribes =].I ALWAYS play on the largest maps with the most people and i don make it easy for me i place it on the hardest settings alsmot now. My empire is called THE IMPERIUM OF MAN. =] Yeah it is EPIC!!! =]
DanielofDoria 3 years ago
im cureently in a major war with the jarred knife civilization of pirates and the lil insect things attacked me the thalns im wipeing them out and we were allies. Someone in one of my corporations killed there leader so we went to war after they attacked me. DRENGIN AND KORATH CLAN THREATENED ME SO I TOOK EM DOWN lol. altarians attacked me with torians so i took em both down. Altarians race is my next target soon. =]
DanielofDoria 3 years ago
i had to switch my weapons from lasers to mass drivers because the altarians had heavy doodie forcefiled tech they sold to all. Everyone thought they were safe but i switched ship designes lol =]

i saw this vid and it got me in the mood for some domination lol. Its taken me like 2 days to conquer a whole large galaxy. im rapeing lol :D
DanielofDoria 3 years ago
Love this game im currently in a war vs the drengin empire over coloniseing worlds, they threatened me once and now they have some worlds i want! SO IT WAR BABY :D lol
DanielofDoria 3 years ago
I always wage war through proxies (have someone else do it for you, like the minor races). i'm locked into an epic game right now where im supply money, tech, bases and ships. it's great! The ships i give them are custom armed/designed so they do not have an edge over me. by taking on these "gifts" it drains their economy so they run to me for more aid, and slows down their research/development of their own top of the line ships. MUHAHAHA!
myster1234 3 years ago
well i killed them drengins they surrendered to me, im now an economic powerhouse and my fleets are the strongest out.

Help!!! which one should i buy,Dreadlords,Dark avatar or twilight of arnor and whats the differnce?
imnotfrommilkyway 3 years ago
Dreadlords = original game
Dark Avatar = expansion #1
Twilight of the Arnor = expansion #2
Dark Avatar actually makes the game less demanding on your computer with better graphics (so slower comps can have better game play).
sandbox4837 3 years ago
Get them all! You can probably buy them all together, I've seen GalCiv II sold with Dark Avatar included. Buy that, then get Twilight of the Arnor. Dark Avatar makes the game run faster. But Twilight of the Arnor also makes the game EVEN MORE faster, it also improves the graphics and you still get better framerates, plus it adds tons of stuff (editors, new techs, more bells and whistles), it's worth every dime.
myster1234 3 years ago
i should add that the space-combat FX you see in this video are exclusively from Twilight of the Arnor expansion because it improves the graphics/FX. If I filmed this with the regular game or Dark Avatar it's has "fugly" FX.

By the epic game I mean the war you're currently in, not just of GalCiv.
IseeSugar42 3 years ago
is this game standalone?
H591boy 3 years ago
wat do u mean by standalone. because theres the orignal galciv: dreadlords, then theres dark avatar expansion, and twilight of arnor expansion. stardock also says that they are going to create another galciv iii...i hope so :)
Also wats the music on this?

i play this game like 2 week and after some time in my game come large squid....WTF? i cant destroy this shity squid...I losse every ship and starbase i build...and allways attack me hahah! lol! How to erase this squid from game or destroy this shit?
AlkoholikDub 3 years ago
Probably a Dread Lord. They are uber powerful, you need to focus a lot of firepower against them, but thankfully they don't have many ships.
sv0lech 3 years ago
Yeah I like this game but there are a lot of WTF incidents in there. For example, I was building up my forces at the border and then some piece keepers came and chewed up all my freakin units! So I've turned off enable unbalancing events, and only have it on when playing against smart AI.
falkerhard 2 years ago 2
was just playing gal civ orginal today and this looks way better btw :P
CCPnoob 3 years ago
What do you think is the best choice of weapons a nd defense mechanisms? (Asked by a noob without the addons).
Johannes9126 3 years ago
it depends on what the computer players are putting on their ships. if you plan war against one, or think one will attack you, look at how their ships are configured (how many points they have in lasers, missiles, mass drivers & shields, armor, and Point-Defense). So if for example they are powerful with guns and weak on Point-Defense (anti-missiles), then make ships strong in Shields (anti-laser) and strong in Missiles (to exploit his weak PD/anti-missile defense).
myster1234 3 years ago
Thanks! I guess you need miniaturization to get all these powerful weapons on board...
Johannes9126 3 years ago
i dunno i usually put round 60 pts in every armor type and then fill in the gaps with weapons btw i always have 2 engines on there
XxBlargMuffinxX 3 years ago
I normally max out on weapons during peace - good versus everything as long as a specific enemy isnt prepared for oyur ships. In war time I will create and draft new ship designs for specific enemy. Often though I dont worry about defense at all and have a primary then small secondary weapon incase they have shields of some sort
CCPnoob 3 years ago
Thanks!
Johannes9126 3 years ago
Definitely an impressive collection of battles. I have to say, the ability to create your own ships' design is an interesting concept to say the least.
Out of curiousity, what's the music playing during the video? I don't recognize it, but it has a very epic, war-like feel to it, complimenting the battles well. It seems to change styles rather infrequently, though... more than one music track, perhaps?
Alkahest 3 years ago
there are lots of other cool weapons in the game not shown (you see like 5% of what's out there). the problem is, in these battles i had to arm my ships with the most powerful weapons. computer had them too. it was brutal. maybe in another vid.

oh i see nice i still have the II gal civ dread lords it has the badest graphics i hate wheere did you get this one ?
XXCOLDFLAMEXX 3 years ago
GalCiv II's latest expansion, Twilight of the Arnor is utterly brilliant. It updates the graphics and makes the game run faster (not like it matters on my machine). The battles look cool (in my vid, you only see several weapons but there are TONS). The old graphics for GalCivII's battles looked like ASS. they still dont look as good as they could but are still 100x better than how they were. the Sound Effects are 100x better too.
myster1234 3 years ago
custom made with the in-game editor. i think used the dominion or korx "style" but you can really use any in the game since you can snap the ships together from the library of "parts", like playing with virtual legos, sort of lol. i went with black/purple colors.
myster1234 3 years ago
what kind of ships is it that you have torian ,drengin human?
