Hi Jake, I really think you you should concentrate on the modern jazz rock stuff as you have a great natural feel for it, don't you realise? too many players out there? so.what , there are thousands of guitar players out there who would love to hear more of it, so keep at it.. Anyway, great stuff
Man, exelent!!!, you have swin incredible, very impressive, my house is your house, if you decide to come sometimes to Argentina, these sincerely invited to be in my house. Greetings. and thanks for your music. Richard.
Man, exelent!!! you have swin incredible, very impressive, my house is your house, if you decide to come sometimes to Argentina, these sincerely invited to be in my house. Greetings. and thanks for your music. Richard.
it's funny...because you can take that distortion...which seems over compressed...or like it might lack sustain....and make it sound really, really good.....that's a tell tale sign of good technique....I hear everything thing you're saying! good stuff.
@stevecraignet ...the distortion sounds like it only works if you're attacking a note...and note a whole ton of sustain.....so he must have awesome attacky phrasing...funky stuff....that fits here...and probably everywhere he uses it...he's really good...sorry to be confusing but you have to listen to a lot to hear a non fancy distortion get used so well like this.
Thank you! My main gig these days is solo guitar or acoustic jazz trios so naturally most of my videos are in that style. But perhaps I will upload a few more lead guitar videos in the coming months. Thanks!
I now understand! You ARE correct about the "loose" resemblance (very little!) to Miles' classic, and subsequently the title is misleading. (Not your fault!)
Anyways, I listened to your performance again, and your playing is refreshingly unique and void of cliches! Although your legato may no have the silky/buttery vibe of some of the better-known "fusion" legato-gods, your style has an urgency and feel that underlies most "pure & true" improvisation! Well done!
However, I think it's actually a shame that these "Jazz Purists" that you went out of your way to apologize to in your "more info" section, (upper right box) aren't more open-minded in so much as you wouldn't need to feel obligated to apologize to them! I mean, I don't remember any traditional-jazz artists "apologizing" to "rock-purists" for their traditional jazz pursuits?!?
I think you may have unintentionally validated all that is wrong with "Jazz."
Thanks for the compliment and the thoughtful remark. I think though that you misunderstand - or perhaps I misspoke: The apology had nothing to do with the different "camps" in music, a discussion I could care less about, but had to do only with a technical point of the use of the title "So What". That title is of a Miles Davis tune with a particular melody, form and feel while this jam is kind of loosely similar and strictly speaking should not be called "So What". Thanks again!
Thanks, you sound great! As a Brit, you might appreciate that one of my main influences to this day is fellow countryman Andrew Latimer who is all about melody phrasing and tone, I still have lots to learn from him... Keep up the great playing!
Great job as always Jake. Listening to you makes me want to quit the guitar. You're too good man! Anyway what about So What? I was waiting for that since it's in the title but it never came.
Thanks, first, for the kind words. Second, you are right in that this track bears little resemblance to the Miles Davis original. In fact the only thing they have in common is that they both have two minor chords half step apart. However, some years ago a recording surfaced by a couple of amazing guitar shredders also dubbed So What. As I am trying to aim at young guitar players (in addition to old jazz guys like myself) I added that in the title. I will make note of this in the video info.
Thanks. For this particular type tone I use a Yamaha DG Stomp preamp either direct into the computer for a video or recording or I'll use a power amp and speakers live. I also have DG guitar amps which I might use depending on the circumstance. No Other pedals or effects in this recording but live I might sometimes use a Yamaha UD stomp. The guitar is an Ibanez Prestige based on their sabre models, but I don't know what pickup it is...
Jake, those hands and the brain/heart keeping their control are just magic!
I love jazz and its many branches, fusion in first place!
I'm here absolutely delighted, listening to your improvisation, intense and technical at the same time (what a precious, rare quality!) and thanking you for another smile you've been able to give to one of my days!
From one of us playing something and the other adding its part; to me adding my orchestra to a music of yours (never done it before... but, oh well, Life is great for each never-tried-before thing!); and yes, a soundtrack is possible too... but this will eventually require a finished movie!
I can export/import midi&audio too and all the stuff required!
Thanks Paul. As I don't, unfortunately, play much in this style anymore, I have been practicing with a pick for a couple of weeks to get back into it. And then, of course, I forget to use the pick till about half way through the recording... Oh well. I'll upload a couple more lead things and then get back to the usual solo guitar stuff. Thanks again my friend!
Wicked playing Jake, I heard about you from Derryl Gabel, I'm glad I checked your videos!

@jareds1007 Jake, I'm not sure what jareds is saying about the distortion, but I wholeheartedly agree that you make it sound really, really good!
Um... does your fingerboard heat up when you do those superfast riffs? Seems like it would.
Fantastic!!

very impressive phrases all the way through
a MVP featuring Jake Reichbart album would be interesting :)
hearing you on distorted lead fusion guitar was like hearing gambale playing just acoustic in his recent concert here,
you should do (and record) that more often when you have time.
best,
