  • how to change barre chords from barre chords and how to hold them

  • @plasticio

Try to put a little cornstarch on the fretboard. I do that and have little to no noise and if you put some one the back of the guitars neck as well your hand can slide easier

  • This helped me soo much thank u now I can play songs with that chord

  • don't even have to think about it JUST AUTOMATIC lol

  • Hi David,

First of all: You rule, man!

I have a question. My fingers make way too much noise when they slide across the fretboard. I know they are supposed to, since that´s the idea of the acoustic guitar, but when I play for other people they always remark the tense noise I make when I change chords and it is getting on my nerves. Please help!

  • helped a lot ..tnx :)

  • just automatic!

  • Dragged myself into Technique Rehab lol ! Great tutorial David !! Bravo

  • Great lesson ! Makes a lot of sense with that pinky thing ! 15 yrs of bad technique is already taking its toll on me. Got the Unlearning blues now...

  • i did this by reflex on VERY easy chords, from D to Em to Dm back to D, took alots of practice but not as much as it should.. that was very easy...

and thx for the hand help, i never knew how to actually hold the left hand while playing.. damn pinky is allover the place

  • yah i agree its not about strenth on electric guitar but acoustic you have to use strenth for bar chords

  • Its not about strenght ? Its not about strenght On electric guitar.

  • i love this guy so much. he's excellent.

  • excellent lesson... the "hitching a ride" tip for the pinky has opened it all up to me... this is the killer tip that all the other books don't give you...

  • What's Up Good People!

That's the 1st thing I said to Dave when I met him this past Labor Day weekend @ a bar called "The Ketch" in Beach Haven, NJ. We spoke for a few minutes about his YouTube page I told him how I'ver been watching his lessons for a few years now & he was very appreciative. He's one of the coolest guy ever. Rock On Good People, Rock On!

  • fantastic information thanks.

  • swiv2d because it's an f sharp?

  • Thanks man.

  • how come his f chord is different waht about the 6 and 5th string on 1st fret

  • Great tips! :D

  • yeah its not about strength. i used to think that too in the beginening. but now i realise its not about strength after playing a couple of years!

  • I like to use the same 3 fingers, pinky, ring and middle to play the open E. Same with the Am. No worries just slide right up to any barr chord.

  • god they have long titles

  • Hahaha I think it's hilarious how long (unnecessarily, might I add) their titles are.

  • Great Lesson.

  • thanks dave your cool bro !=) rock on!!

  • thanks man. ive been playing guitar for about 15 years now and im still uncomfortable/crappy at switching between standard chords and barre chords. i have favorited this video and will be using it to practice.

  • These are great lessons. Even if you're a more advanced player its is very helpful to go back and improve your basic techniques.

  • Hey Dave this is the first time I've ever seen one of your lessons. You are a great teacher, and I'm thinking that you'll take me to the next level. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

  • Are you a dick Earlof Dublin or were you born that way? Don't be a hater. Maybe it's their GOAL is to teach this way? Don't be such a prick.

  • David is fucking awesome. I learnt how to play pinch harmonics by watching his video.

  • Hey dude don't bash them, they're just trying to help. They cover a wide variety of material in different styles, with many different instructors, and a lot of their lessons are great...remember also that this is free. Personally they've had an impact on my playing.

  • Thanks Dave for the lessons, they are very helpful to those who are slow at learning, people in general are not that considerate of others and thats a shame, this proves you are considerate my friend. God_bless you. - Best regards- Thomas

  • wow, as a relative beginner, this may be the best video lesson on youtube I have seen. All kinds of cylinders just clicked in my head and I'm going to try them out tonight! Yesterday was my birthday and I think I just figured out what I'm going to treat myself to :D

  • This is so good, basic play explained in a non-patronising way.Wish my teacher told me things like this.Cheers Mate.

  • These lessons are by far the best I've seen. Thanks for taking the time to teach us beginners!

  • YOur the BEST David!

  • great lesson dave! look forward to your next installment.

  • thanks again Dave..If i ever get out west Im swingin in.

  • Well then , damn it mention it in the lesson given at the time given!

    LOL

    jk.

  • i cant beleave this is for free.

  • hahaha im the man with the flying pinky!!

  • screw cords, ill be the 40 year old guitar bum that knows only arpeggios and sits in that back of a guitar shop play a dean

  • \chords are so important when playing any instrument, learn them or get nowhere

  • if you know areggios you the notes that are in the chords!

  • clearly people are retarded and didn't get i was sarcastic, i am learning lots of cords, cords also make up the notes to an arpeggio, i know my theory

  • i can do bar chords for electric pretty much easy but goddamn is it hard for acoustic

particularly that G string...its always muted..ive tried every which way and it seems like that part of my finger just has too much fat/skin to it that my finger bone doesnt really touch the fret..

    i've tried so hard though

  • I have this prob too! Maybe what you can try is to bring it to a guitar tech to tighten the truss rod to reduce the action of the guitar. And maybe you can change the strings to a lower gauge. Like say... 0.10 gauge strings.

  • what about in chords like C9, or in barchords like CM7 and Dm7 and stuf like that?

  • man has got a good point

  • I HAVE A GREAT CHORD SEQUENCE FOR THIS TYPE OF PRACTICE!! -

    Am, F, C, G, Am, F, C, E, - Repeat

3 strums each (can you guess the song =))

  • Iggy Pop and The Passenger .. Oh yeah

  • Thats in loads of songs

  • safe tonight by eagle eye cherry ?

  • we have a winner lol !!!!!!

  • VERY helpful! Thanks man!

  • That strat looks and sounds really nice

  • Man, Strat is the best guitar ever!!!!!!

  • dam straight

  • you have the best teaching method!!!

  • Nice thank

    really helpfull

  • lol my pinky flails all the time, never really had a problem with it though...

  • thank you! my technique was impure! i could easily play them before, but now it's VERY easy. could you put up a video about speed/shredding too?
