I have an old recording on VHS of Mr Bragg programming ABC-TV's rage, where he programmes The Verve original of this... before it starts he talks about the death of Diana so many years ago (before Amelie, for crysake) and how Elton John should never have played at the funeral with his old song; because the week she died, The Drugs Don't Work went to #1 -- Britain mourned to this song. I didn't know he did a version ... so beautiful!
It's a gorgeous rendition a classic song. Don't knock Bill. As he himself said "In a perfect world we'd all sing in tune. But this is reality, give me some room" Billy has to also be the most sought after artist that people want to duet with! Everyone does it.
KT Tunstall absolutely makes this with her sense of harmony. Really, she should have been given a verse on her own - just one as a beautiful counterpoint. I think that this is a great rendition but worry that Billy unecessarily dominates proceedings - there was an even better version screaming to get out here.
That was fuckkin amazing.. hard to make a good track better.. but in my opinion they pulled it off! I´ll watch it again sober and see what I make of it then..
I think in some places KT's a bit off.. Of course it's hard to judge anything with youtube quality :-p It could be that her higher bits sound good with a bit of contrasting bass (which is ever so slightly lacking) as is, the high bits feel a bit out.
Everything aside, this is amazing. I've always almost liked KT and just discovered Bragg (like.. in the last half hour), this is really good.
Give Billy some credit. He's been doing this longer than KT has been a grown up. He's much older than her and much more experienced, talented, knowledgeable and impressive.
Sublime. Great blend of voices. Two fabulous British artists, both shining in each other's company.

Utterly, utterly beautiful. Their harmonies are breathtakingly brilliant. Can't stop listening to it.

If you're after perfection, listening to Billy Bragg is the wrong way to go. This is terrific - as is KT's arse. And boots.

Plus it was Billy Bragg who arranged this version - including the harmonys.

no, i'm not saying it didn't sound great but it might have sounded better with KT doing the tune, who knows...

cool!
KT got the harmony part- it probably would have sounded better if she did the tune?
KTRocks44 3 years ago
but she nailed the harmony - do you really think they could do this any better?
