  • It would sound a little better if she played the B on the E string a little higher.

  • holy crap! play that fiddle!

  • I think the tune must go back to at least 1890, since Lowe Stokes, born 1898, heard both his father and Joe Lee playing it; so it had spread around a bit, to at least two fiddlers by 1908 or so when Stokes might have been listening as a kid. Some of these tunes go back to England, maybe 1800 or earlier; but people do make up new tunes.

  • Best version of Katy Hill on youtube.

  • does anyone knows where i can get the notes? please

  • Dear Ashley, I love your fiddlin - and just as much, your Atitude !

  • where did you learn this setting? i like it.

  • Amazing, gorgeous, brilliant xD

  • you sound great!!! you got all the notes in there, thats not an easy tune either. try slowing it down a tick and putting in some more soul. keep posting!

  • Great Job!!!! Love it!!!!

  • Remember to put some feeling in it. You have the speed thing down and the dexterity now all you need is some soul.

  • That was awe inspiring. What drive.

  • Awesome Fiddler,Katy,But you better be carfull not to set your fiddle on fire!!!

  • You're an idiot. The name of the song is Katy Hill. The fiddlers name is Ashley.

  • i wish i could do that! it sounds soo good!

  • You are great! Got that "distinctive" sound...I'd love to play with you some day. I'm a banjo player goin after that Round Peak thing...Keep it up!

  • Hey, You do a great job, I love this song. I just can't play it this fast yet.

    Ruby

  • Excellent! Every not clear as a bell, with a driving rhythm and tempo. Thank you.

  • Tear that fiddle up girl! I love listening to old-time fiddle tunes like this. Now just need somebody to do some old-time clog/buck & or flat-footin to it. AWESOME, AWESOME job.

  • Great Job! Very difficult Bill Monroe song and you pulled it off!

  • Smokin'!

  • My bad, looks like the Old-Time Fiddlers Hall Of Fame website has a typo, and Jarrell actually died in '85. That's what I get for being a know-it-all. Sorry.

  • Your fiddling is awesome, but you should probably change the description on this clip because Tommy Jarrell died in 1975.

  • @buckleup, Tommy passed away in '85. Heck, he was honored at the Smithsonian in '82. That's when the interview took place, Fiddler Magazine just published it in '95.

  • That was a dandy tune. Thanks

  • You are awesome!

  • outstanding...

  • I love playing this song on the banjo. Dean Johnson from Lamar, MO used to play this one on the fiddle and I'd take a break on it.

  • That is some fine, fine fiddling =^)

  • Wow thats probably the fastest I have heard Katy Hill on YouTube and anywhere else! Great Job!
