the americans made a very short-sighted play with the mujahadeen (they weren't actual taliban til the rival warlords had their little internal power struggle). Most mujahadeen were islamist freedom fighters or protecters and an extremist bunch became taliban etc. america needed to stave off the russians in afghanistan and also the iranians in the south. so they equiped the mujas out of pure neccessity. its much much deeper than that, but anyway. makes for good viewing still! whenever american govt needs an excuse to invade a country n kill hundreds of thousands they scare their public in the name of 'world peace is in danger'. nuclear missile on japan for peace, chemical weapon in vietnam for peace, helping afghanistan against soviet for peace then later invading them for peace finally invading iraq n dropping bombs over civilians for peace. how come no other country cares as much for world peace as much USA does?
