This song was locked in my memory for the last few decades and just happened to hear it the other day and it all came rushing back. Still chase that feeling with music. The nostalgia that certain songs release is one of the best feelings on earth..........
Great song. Martha Davis could sing the phonebook and draw a crowd of people to hear her. Amazing is a word that is often used in music, but certainly her magical voice warrants such praise. Cheers...
Metroken My wife and I saw and met the group over this past summer. Martha is still cool. They performed this song and their other hits. Still sounding great~!
como olvidar a la Martha Davis!! en el 82 tenia 14 años ahora podemos recordar todos esos sonidos gracias a youtube y cuando quieras!!!!!!!esos 80`s........... uffffffffffffff
This song reminds me of the summer of 1982 I was 15 and making out in the park in Santa Fe with a boy named Rick...He was hot and it was innocent. Nice memories...
I don't know where you get your information from, but you are absolutely dead wrong about this. Although there are session players throughout the record, they are there in addition to the band members. The track in particular has every member of the band playing with, I believe, only one additional keyboard player.
Martha Davis is my favorite female lead singer. She has so much emotion in her voice. Favorite songs by The Motels : Remember The Nights,Total Control,Tables are Turned, Take the L,Celia,Suddenly Last Summeretc. Great Band!
if you can find the music video for this there is a cryptic message reference to another music video directed by the same director and it helps to understand part of the meaning of this song. Remember The Nights by The Motels was from the album Little Robbers circa 1983
there is a music video from the same time frame by the same director which helps explain the video in some respects. as for the real meaning of the song that is more of a personal image made in your own mind when you listen to this song or see the video. as a teenager at the time this group was popular it brings back memories of the discovery of first love and the tragic tenuous and fleeting memory of such love that is often remembered with regret and fondness. yet, it makes you stronger inside
Like trejos I had never heard this song, until I got thier greatist hits. Good tune. Also a couple other decent tunes I never heard. Guess I never paid them much attention except for the only the lonely album.
yes youre right. We listened to this song during high school in Manila. This is such a very core thing in us 80s kids. This belongs to all those memories made during this song is at its height. I specially remember the night before a track & field tournament where the whole team was quarantined in the school to conserve strength. It was so boring but thanks to a blaring radio next building to this tune. Ahh...those nights.
funny!! for me and my best friends at the time it was a lock in with the church on a saturday night to keep us out of trouble from 13 to 15 years old. SMILES
really would like to find the music video for this particular song by The Motels and see Martha Davis in her prime once again.
Great reminder of growing up in Southern California and graduation high school in 1985. Martha Davis and the Motels, they put out some great songs and will always remind me of listening to 91X and KROQ....
I agre with macleanw long live 83-84!I have always loved the Motels and i was just slightly older 17-19 when i started hearing their songs-Martha Davis is a wonderful performer! Devin class of 83
I LOVE the feeling this song gives me. I used to always listen to The Motels as a child, and I heard this song for the first time a few years ago, and it brought back so many memories of my child-hood (well being 12)in 1984. I still get teary-eyed listening to it; I really miss those days, that feeling will never go leave me.

Neebette1-
You sure this song reminds you of the summer of '82? 'Cuz this song was released as a single in late '83 and was a modest radio hit in January '84.
"Only The Lonely" was the Motels hit from late spring-summer '82.
