i too pondered the opening sequence figuring we who are gay understand all too well the homophobic slurs we are subjected to and thus did not need to have them thrown back in our face. but not to have included it - would have resulted in an entirely different video. and for those not of our community who perhaps might be watching - it's important they hear the words we hear.
@alwaysuseless Part 2 of 3 i understand too your main objection that the vid doesn't show gay men in their true/loving light. but my inclusion of the phrase "if we're going to be damned - let's be damned for what we really are" is presented in the context that we are indeed homoSEXuals - with the emphasis on the SEX. it is that which homophobes and haters find offensive - not the love between two men - but how we express it. the video thus stands in defiance of their opinions and beliefs.
@alwaysuseless Part 3 of 3 therefore my intent was never to represent our loving and positive relationships - but to show us on our most basic and fundamental level - men who have a strong sexual attraction for other men. it is what makes us gay. it is what makes us not "who" but "what" we are. for our ability to love does not make us homosexual - it simply makes us human.
The 34 secs of black screen with homophobic diatribe of the worst sort was painful to listen to but an intro consistent with the stated purpose of the video. The narrator's comments "let's be damned for what we really are" suggests that we'll now see videos depicting real, typical, loving gay men. To that end the flash sped-up imaging sends the exactly wrong message of just-sex superficiality & the photos contain almost no typical gay men expressing an integration of sex, love & affection. cont:

Most of the men are super-hot with tatoos &/or muscles ready for raw sex--entirely appropriate for a gay video but not for showing who we really are, i.e. not representative of the larger LGBT community. Instead they are the models & hunks that provide testosterone-supercharged images the gay-haters may already have in their heads. I don't actually know what gay-haters have in their heads besides fear, ignorance, hatred & a need for a scapegoat. continued:

For people who are sitting on the fence, undecided, for example, whether gays should have full marriage rights, a video of happy, good-looking & average-looking, gay couples that want to tie the knot could be compelling. The men here look more interested in getting down than in making commitments. Both are good. Your real message seems to be not "Look at the whole picture, who we really are" but hot some men are.

Thanks, Joseph. As for the hotness of the video, I personally prefer no tattoos, but I'm a sucker for muscles. I find guys who give me a warm, softer look actually hotter. Strong hands & kindness. *sigh* Being faithful to one man turns me on. But we all have different tastes & varying frames of desire.
Such a work of powerful contrast's~ I found the opening narrative quite disturbing, purely because i've no experience of this type of venom. Who know's what the driving force is for these sad bigot's ?
