R.I.P Hickstead you amazing Horse you will be missed dearly you were and inspiration and a magnificent Show-Jumper and Horse at that I pay tribute to you<3 You left leaving your talent behind :'( xx
@fiessy11 "In the winter months, Hickstead’s semen was collected and frozen, between 20 and 40 times a year, far less than European stallions that average about 100 doses a year. While he was alive his semen sold for about $5,500 a dose. Now Berger, who’s had about 1,000 inquiries since Hickstead’s death, is hearing from breeders who say they will pay “whatever the price.” It’s too soon to know if any of the 100 foals that Hickstead sired show talent. Most of them are only 2-year olds."
Nobody understand the passion and love the coaches, riders and stable hands have for these horses. This horse clearly loved to jump and enjoyed what he was doing. This isn't animal abuse, it's just what happens when nature takes its course. It could happen to you and me at any time.
At least he died with those he knew. R.I.P. Hickstead. :'( <333
Awww :( miss him sooooo much he was the best -3 btw there is a support page on facebook called "The Hickstead Project", the project is a hand drawn portrait of hickstead which is to be sent to eric as a gift to remember his amazing horse by :) please support-3
it wasn't because they were pushing him, my horse had a heart-attack and died it wasn't because we pushed her too hard. It just happend. Like a person, they can just be random. Don't blame it on the owners, it wasn't there falt at all.
@rebamac96 Thats not true! horses have heart attacks just like we would. Randomn and out of no where. PLus I'm sure Eric and anyone invloved with Hickstead's life have it hard enough and dont need stupid, rude and disrespectful comments like yours! So maybe next time your gonna comment on something like this, instead of blaming it on the rider/owners you should think twice....!
God, what a gorgeous horse, such a tragic thing to happen. Anyone who does jumpers knows the team a horse a rider have to form, I can imagine Eric Lamaz is devastated. I've seen fourteen year old horses have heartattacks, keep in mind all horses age differently, while at the same time I used to show my horse in jumpers and he's going on 27 and still totally healthy.
It is so sad to see that, when we write "hickstead" in the youtube search bar, the first video the most see is this one, showing his death. We shouldn't watch this video, but watch those who make us dream with his jumps, higher than him ! But this horse will never stop making us dream, he was the best, he maybe didn't suffer when he dies, but it's us that are suffering of his death...
Hickstead ♥
(I'm sorry if there is things that I said that are not very English, but I'm a French woman :p)
How truly awful. There are few things in life that upset me more than watching horses die. But at least he died excelling at the sport he loved, with the rider he loved beside him.
It was extremely hard to fight back the tears while watching this. This is terrible and there was nothing that could have been done. Hickstead was truely a sensational horse, and it is heartbreaking to see these awful and disrespectful comments on here. My heart goes out to Eric Lamaze and all who were close to the magnificant horse. RIP beautiful Hickstead. Knowing that he died doing what he loved softens the blow, even just a little bit. </3
There are some really sick human beings writing on this page...an innocent animal lost his life! All I hope is he did not suffer unlike what I wish on some humans, including those that have written nasty obscene statements on this blog! I read these blogs and then understand why we have children being abducted, animals being harmed and little old ladies being raped ... disgusting so called human beings. I'm ashamed, if you have nothing nice to say don't say anything!
Poor Hickstead...but, I think he died doing something he enjoyed. He's in greener pastures right now and in no more pain. And for those of you who don't know why he died, he died of heart failure due to a acute aortic rupture. Poor guy. But, he's in a better place now. RIP Hickstead!
he was an amazing horse. i wish people would get it through their heads that everything invovling animals is animal abuse. this horse loved his work. he loved to jump. that passion is what took him to the top. we all want to go doing what we love--and that is exactly what hickstead did. he is truly missed by many
poor horse,i would hate to c a horse to go down like that, so sad especally infront of the owner i would cry everyninght wishing for my horse to be there Eric i wish u peace i no it was a hard death to take from the best freind u cud have ever had.R.I.P Hickstead
@101jumpergirl101 Actually, an aortic rupture is a fairly quick way to die. The internal hemorrhage that results is enormous and with that coming from the aorta, circulation to the rest of the body is severely, severely inhibited (if there is any).
Why would eric hate himself ?! Its not his fault a horse he loved so much had a heart attack ive had a horse die on me like that an believe me its the worst thing in the world !!!!
Please dont say mean things or maybe stupid questions on here because Hickstead put his life on the line for us and thats all that matters we loved him so much a true champion R.I.P. Hickstead we love you so much :(

R.I.P. Hickstaed, the only comfort is that the horse died immideattly when its aorta broke. The horse was already dead when it went down. The movements occured after death (post mosten cramps). When aorta, the main blood vein, bursts it is like pulling of the plug.
Look at the public. Some of them show their feelings about this tragedy. But most of them dont show any feelings at all. This is outrageous!! This how we see sport with animals today. No mercy.Just profit.
@lisabettan Hickstead could've been treated like royalty and this still could've happened. There wasn't anything anyone could do to predict or prevent it from happening. I bet he was treated with the best care in the world considering how fit and well taken care of a horse has to be to do what he could. It was awful, but couldn't have been prevented. </3
This is what happens with a stroke or aneurism. It is heartwrenching to see and I speak from experience when I lost a 26 year old horse. One minute he was perfectly healthy, the next the functions of his brain were slowly disappearing. My heart goes out to Eric Lamaze and I hope he licks his wounds and gets back in the saddle. You never forget but time heals.
@blondemare1 their is an Eric Interview, to the canadian press, about this and they said the Autopsy revieled that Hickstead had a ruptured Artery, or something involing his heart :( R.I.P buddy, now you can jump those clouds in Heaven <3 <3
I'm sorry, but how the FUCK are these people treating their horses, if they can just collapse right during a competition and die on the spot? Is It because of som sort of drugs? Extreme stress pehaps?
A healthy horse doesn't die like that. WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?!
@BlitzCup they think it had a heart attack. no one could prevent it happening, just like human heart attacks. their blood becomes too thick and the heart bursts. its extremly rare and upsetting when it happens, the horse itself was treated at the highest level of care that was possible, its just really bad luck.
Hickstead suffered a heat attach - aortic rupture - according to the medical report on his death. There can be several reasons to that, nut most common is a hidden weak spot of the aorta. Some horses, just like some people are born wit that defect.
@Beginnigful Just fyi, humans are animals too. And even if you don't have the mental capacity for it, most people are capable of being sad about more than one thing.
@iRiD3PONi3S actually fat ass horses and humans are quite different(we dont shit were we eat) and way to post the same shit twice get off youtube no one likes you fucking piece of shit
@bakapurpie Not really, only a few of our genes are different from that of a horse. Not to mention, we're scientifically classified together all the way down to subclass. I don't plan on leaving youtube anytime soon, since, contrary to you, I do have people how like me (ie. My subscribers, my friends).
I don't understand why people who hate horses, even bother watching a horse video. Hickstead was amazing, he was loved and is now missed by many. I miss you! I don't think anyone could ever say or explain the bond between a person and a horse, its almost magic. I feel bad for those who never get to feel that bond, and I feel bad for those who hate on a horses, for they will never get that feeling, that feel of running down a pasture bareback. RIP Hickstead, forever in our hearts.
why the hell did this have to fucking happen!!!!! fuck my life!!! damn the first time i saw hickstead was at spruce meadows!!! i will never ever forget hickstead i fucking luv him to death!!!!!! you are a great horse hickstead but god decided to take you early... i speak for all horse lovers... we will never forget you hickstead!!!! <3 fuck you are amazing!!! i fucking miss you love you forever!!!!!!!!!............
ps: sorry for all the swearing!!!! i just had to let it out!!
My Horse died in exactly the same way, walking him in from the feild as I would, any other day. The most magical, powerful Horse I have ever had the privalege of riding. And I have ridden quite a few. The lesson is, life is precious. It might not seem that way trudging through the week, but in those final few seconds it comes so clearly into focus.
Please do not judge this man. My horse died in the exact same way of stroke while just walking on the trail. It was terrifying.Just as some people die suddenly, it happens to horses as well. I am appalled and disappointed that people should make such judgmental cruel and profoundly ignorant comments.
this horse could not have just dropped and died for no aparent reason. impossible. they were giving that horse something they had to and they pushed him to hard!!! this is what happens!!! its true!! dont go hating on me!! its immposible for a perfectly healthy animal to be fine 1 sec and dead the next. and for those of you who say the drug test them so its impossible, i have been showing my whole life and they only drug test curten horses!!!
Hickstead suffered of an aortic rupture, the vein that pumps blood back to body. That fact was released afetr autopsy according to the medical report on his death. There can be several reasons to that, but most common is a hidden weak spot of the aorta. Some horses, like some people are born wit that defect. Luckily the death was instant. Cramps were post mortem. The horse was dead before it hit the ground.
@MrIsoviita Seriously? He was already dead by the time he started spazzing and and kicking? I'm not trying to say you're wrong, it just seemed like he was still alive, but at least if what you say is true then he didn't suffer much.
@coolbroadcastersrock no one hates you. you need to get your facts right though. horses can and do drop dead from heart attacks and aortic ruptures. it happens quite a lot in racing as well. it is usually very quick, and the horse seldom suffers. the muscle twitching is just the horse dying. they do this when they get put down too.
R.I.P Hickstead you amazing Horse you will be missed dearly you were and inspiration and a magnificent Show-Jumper and Horse at that I pay tribute to you<3 You left leaving your talent behind :'( xx

You never forget but time heals.
blondemare1 2 months ago
@blondemare1 their is an Eric Interview, to the canadian press, about this and they said the Autopsy revieled that Hickstead had a ruptured Artery, or something involing his heart :( R.I.P buddy, now you can jump those clouds in Heaven <3 <3

I'm sorry, but how the FUCK are these people treating their horses, if they can just collapse right during a competition and die on the spot? Is It because of som sort of drugs? Extreme stress pehaps?
A healthy horse doesn't die like that. WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?!
BlitzCup 2 months ago
@BlitzCup they think it had a heart attack. no one could prevent it happening, just like human heart attacks. their blood becomes too thick and the heart bursts. its extremly rare and upsetting when it happens, the horse itself was treated at the highest level of care that was possible, its just really bad luck.

@BlitzCup Yes a healthy orse can die like that.
Hickstead suffered a heat attach - aortic rupture - according to the medical report on his death. There can be several reasons to that, nut most common is a hidden weak spot of the aorta. Some horses, just like some people are born wit that defect.
You can not do anything about it.
MrIsoviita 2 months ago
@BlitzCup They do. And so do people. Sometimes a heart just, fails.

Harvick3to29 3 months ago
Please do not judge this man. My horse died in the exact same way of stroke while just walking on the trail. It was terrifying.Just as some people die suddenly, it happens to horses as well. I am appalled and disappointed that people should make such judgmental cruel and profoundly ignorant comments.
TheEvietaylor 3 months ago
this horse could not have just dropped and died for no aparent reason. impossible. they were giving that horse something they had to and they pushed him to hard!!! this is what happens!!! its true!! dont go hating on me!! its immposible for a perfectly healthy animal to be fine 1 sec and dead the next. and for those of you who say the drug test them so its impossible, i have been showing my whole life and they only drug test curten horses!!!

@coolbroadcastersrock You are totally wrong about this!

MrIsoviita 2 months ago
@MrIsoviita Seriously? He was already dead by the time he started spazzing and and kicking? I'm not trying to say you're wrong, it just seemed like he was still alive, but at least if what you say is true then he didn't suffer much.
danistrat95 2 months ago
@coolbroadcastersrock no one hates you. you need to get your facts right though. horses can and do drop dead from heart attacks and aortic ruptures. it happens quite a lot in racing as well. it is usually very quick, and the horse seldom suffers. the muscle twitching is just the horse dying. they do this when they get put down too.
