Thanks for posting this. I'm interested in nineteenth-century piano performance practice of Bach's music, and trying at the moment to learn a couple of the preludes and fugues of the Well Tempered Clavier from the Busoni edition and some Reger transcriptions. Is there a Busoni recording of this particular prelude and fugue? I love the rubato and pedalling in his recording of the C major prelude that has been posted up on YouTube.
there were some notes played accented that probably shouldn't have been (fugue) and the bottom notes were played too heavily, while they weren't the theme (prelude). you're welcome to make your own interpretations, but i think adding to the runs took away from the light, fluttery feeling that was originally composed. overall, a technical performance, but perhaps too heavy. this is supposed to be a light piece.
interesting interpretation! don't mind the crybabies here..... you are free to play as you like- but in a concert though some might not like so drastic a modified interpretation.
when you start the beggining of the fugue, you seem to have accents on notes you may feel appropriate, however, you should note, there are no accents in bach. another thing, at the end of the fugue, you should not add octaves because it is a 3 voice fugue in contrapuntal texture, those octaves break the texture, they are fine in the prelude, because the prelude is not a contrapuntal piece, however dont do that in the fugue

Ciao Annarita, evidentemente questo video mi era sfuggito, me ne accorgo solo ora... grandissima esecuzione!!! Complimenti ancora, Francesco
Who do you think you are adding notes to bach's music? You aren't his nagging wife that tells him how to write his music or anything like that. If you were you 'd sound like this:
"Johann! Add an octave to those beautiful runs that you composed without any help from me! No one would ever know the difference!"
@blicklepants Yeah, you're right. Bach's music should be preserved and not changed at all. For instance, Bach himself NEVER improvised, or changed his peices on the fly in performance. And certainly he would never doing anything showy. And God forbid somebody make the peice their own.
I have an erard identical to this one! I actually can not really tell the difference between this one and MINE! Except this one may be longer. My Erard is 6 feet in length
great performance. Your clarity on fast runs was very well done. I'm curious about your choice to double many lines and runs in octaves, especially in the prelude, considering how parrallel octaves were viewed in the baroque. Nevertheless, I thought they added to to style you gave the piece and I enjoyed it very much!
She probably used them to get a bigger tone, probably simulating an organ. In the baroque era, they didn't like using octaves because it would double a voice and it would be difficult to hear each individual voice. But since there's only one voice, adding an octave doubling simply makes the sound and texture bigger. A good effect here.
Unfortunately it isn't my Erard. This piano belongs to Istituto Assunzione in Rome where I played in concert ten and six years ago. The sound was very enchanting! You are lucky to have an Erard....are you a pianist?
why would you use the pedal?
good performance other than that and the extra notes..

Strepitosa e bellissima esecuzione!
