  • Things like that chair and breadspread are true gems, true treasures!!! Anual JUNK DAY is a great day to forage front yards/neighborhoods for free furniture and loot to boot - into your house. One man's trash is another man's treasure. You can also find some great FREEBIES on Craigslist - some in perfect condition and others waiting to be spruced up by a creative mind and hands. Get crafty! I recently started using energy saving bulbs and curtains. Limited light usage. Lots of love from plants!

  • Kevin, I want to refer you to a wonderful organic tea grower in the bay area. Her teas are the best and so divine. Berkley as in California bay area? congrats on the new place!

  • beautiful table!!!!

I love buying second hand items-especially if they are handmade...I feel they have a history and love....we live in a small city house- with an apartment sized kitchen and the tiniest closets EVER--I look forward to seeing what you do with your place!

  • Love the show. As a broke college student. I've stopped taking my car. I ride the public bus which runs on bio diesel. Love the show!!!

  • so this video has nothingto do with grounding then ;)

  • Kevin....your skin is incredible.....WOW...you should make a video on skin

  • Join a freegan group.

  • Im so loving the budget eco-friendly for the apartment living episodes coming. Living in an aprtment, with a spouse and trying to stay on a budget but be healthy is something I stress over sadly so I'd love some tips.

  • I'm really looking forward to seeing the mattress building show. Are you allowed to build shelving on the back wall in your kitchen? I'm thinking that may give you good storage.

Hey Kev, whatever it is that you're doing with your hair, I really like it! It doesn't look like a hair problem that your just trying to deal with anymore. It's looks like you've been blessed w/ really great hair & blue eye. Oh don't get all worried, I'm 57 & old enough to be your mother :o Keep up the good work kids!

  • OMG!!! Kevin you're soooo funny!! Thanks for the laughs! Wonderful grand tour of your new appt - THANKS. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your coffee table! Dang, I wish I had one like that!

We live on a small farm in southeast Ohio. We have become more eco friendly by making a compost for our garden, thinking more outside the box for recycling, we don't take joy rides in our car anymore (plus the price of gas is to high) & I stopped using all the strong cleaning products.

Thanks for being so real w/ no ego!

  • UPPPPER DECKERRRRRR!!!!! you gona paint at all?

  • Love the mattress idea. I was just asking about a mattress too.

We've turned our kitchen into a busy, creative space that produces hardly any trash ever.

  • Welcome to Berkeley! Hope you love it here

  • Can't wait to see how to make the mattress! You look really happy! Great!! :D

  • very excited about the mattress project!!!

  • Grow herbs and sprouts on the top of kitchen cabinets.

You might have to set up a light systems but the space is perfect!!!

  • ha! i knew you would end up living by your office the moment you set one up. and a cheap way to get things are your local freecycle, and craigslist. yuppers. =^-^=

  • One thing I do is walk every day and people here put out stuff on the side of the road and I do find some really good free items this way. Chairs, VCR players, TVs, lamps, file cabinets.....just all kinds of good useable stuff. Some things may need a slight repair but that is something I consider before taking home.

  • Grow your own " sunnies" sunflower sprouts in pots around the apartment. Edible and pretty! Keep a few pots rotating so some are mature at all times. Nice apartment!

  • You can also get a Shower Saver Shut Off Valve for your shower head that saves water already, plus it can be put on your shower with the shower filter. So you could save loads of water.

  • ikea

  • painting your own quote boards on canvas, they look really home comforting and stylish! =)

  • Congrats!

  • Garage sales in expensive neighbor hoods and end of semester in university student neighbors..Great moving sales.

  • Dumpster diving yet!

Start hitting the dumpsters of large health food stores for free food.

You could probably join an already active group.

    Keep us posted!

  • Grounded bedsheets! David Wolfe! Congrats!!!

  • I would suggest using a brick in the toilet tank, works great.

  • solar panels

  • time to make some babies

  • what is the title of the song? i love it!

  • Freecycle and of course charity shops. Mind you esp in the charity shops I usually find the best bits of furniture have been snapped up. BUT I also try to give as much back as I can. I never throw anything out if it can be of use to someone else.

  • congratulations on your new pad! awsome :) maybe check out some garage sales, sometimes you can find really cool stuff for a great price. Looking forward to seeing some recipes in the new rockin kitchen!

  • Congrats guys. Really excited for the future vids.

  • Babies on the way!

  • Look on Craigslist in their free section.

  • Well done. Thanks for sharing. You guys rock!

  • i don t know what you guys have in the states but we have a web site called freecycle in canada where people post stuff to give away or what they need. of course its all free just pick it up

  • make a book shelfs out of wooden ladders and old 1 x 6's very easy and if put together right you and reuse a lot.

  • lovin the place.

  • We call the "upper decker" "top tanking"

  • Oh yes, and eco-friendly solutions: Use the windows and blinds to your advantage to control temperature without the use of air conditioners or heaters (summer: open windows all night, close blinds in the day. Winter: open blinds during sunlight hours, keep windows closed.) Also, using thick curtains will keep heat in well!

  • Congratulations you guys!!!

  • Oooo how pretty. I live in a loud shit hole =D

    Yay for being a student!

  • Congrats! I'm also in bay area, it would be fun if we ever bump into each other. :)

  • Craigslist for cheap in expensive well taken care of furniture items.

  • i use old wooden wine boxes from whole foods for decoration and storage

  • @MovementAsPrayer Do you just ask them for the boxes or so you take them from the back?

  • @kevingianni I just ask the wine buyer for any extra he may have in the back or on the floor

  • I'm REALLY excited to hear about how you make the mattress. Super excited. We are very eco-friendly here in my community...sometimes the same awesome dress or comforter or dishes or sink or doors literally make their ways to one person after the other. Many times free...or for a tiny cost. Have fun!!!

  • Congrats!

  • I love 2nd hand shopping but please make sure you inspect everything very well. Bedbugs are making a serious comeback and you definitely don't want to bring those things home! Can't wait to see what you do with the place!

  • Freecycle and Craigslist are my best friends this past decade. Before that I used local papers and word of mouth. The only thing I have ever purchased new was a matteress. Other than that I can honestly say I could furnish that apartment for under $200

  • I haven't flushed my toilet in three weeks! nahhh jk jk but I ammmm workin' on a solar panel to use here.

  • NO Denver!? you crazy? anyways, good luck to you guys.. booo :)

  • Congrats on your new digs, and thanks for taking us with you. :-)

  • Congratulations on the new apartment! I'm so happy for you. I would find a nice piece of wood to cover the stovetop for use as a counter. (and turn off the gas, of course)

  • I have thick, dark curtains. They keep the heat out in the summer and keep warmth in during winter, so I don't have to use a heater or AC. By the way, welcome to the East Bay. :) We're practically neighbors.

  • I love your show and that you are sharing your new apartment with us. Kevin you have the most amazing blue eyes. Just sayin" ....... Ann Marie will have your new place looking great and turn it into your "home" quickly. I know you are both so excited to be "grounded" and near your office. Enjoy and look forward to many more Vids from you two.

  • Look into making your own cleaning products! Many non-toxic, cheap, and simple things you can do!

  • Welcome to the East Bay. :)

  • I don't know how toilets work in the USA, but in Australia we put a brick in the toilet cistern to displace water...? Same idea as the bottle, I guess.

I now live in LA and there's all sorts of stuff people leave on the street - If I needed anything, I'd pick that up and modify it to suit my needs.

  • Welcome to the East Bay. :)

  • First thing you can do is turn off that light behind you because it looks like it still during the day in Berkley. I just figured I would bust your balls a little. Luv the videos and keep them flowing. Much luv.

    Peace

  • @jrda128 LOL

  • Check Freecycle for household items others in your area are giving away. ;o) BTW, I love your vids.

  • the trick with the toilet was genius!! o.O I never would have thought about that.

I'll have to pop on your blog later and tell you about how to survive cheaply in a small kitchen.

  • The renegade health show 'cribs', I love it! All the best in your new home :)
