@jw870206 Yep...It used to be on 6, but they moved it down to 3 last December on the day of the test. They were going to put it on 4, but I told my contact from the city that there are already 2 other Tbolts on that end of town that run at about that pitch. The range of this thing has drasticly improved since they lowered it.
The other Tbolt heard is the Doss High School Tbolt, which can be heard better than usual from there because of the east wind. I may rerecord that one next month with my new mic, or I may rerecord the Wilder Tbolt, which I'm almost certain has also had it's chopper level lowered...I could hear it on the recording from my uncle's, and it's even lower than this one now.
@LouisvilleTorn8o I was in the Toys-R-Us parking lot and the ambiance was sweet. I heard all three surrounding Thunderbolts well. Unfortunately, because the camera was so low to the ground and my car was block it, a lot of it goes unheard here. And I have the Wilder bolt recorded from June 22nd. You can find that on my page....are you saying it has been lowered since June? The siren starts at 8 : 50 in that video.
@Trocks797 Yes, I'm saying that the Wilder Tbolt's chopper level has likely been lowered since then. The contact I have who works on them told me that he was thinking about lowering it shortly after those tornados, to try and increase it's coverage area. This past Tuesday was the first time I've heard it at the lower pitch, which sounds like level 1 or 2. I'll have to get back with my contact and make sure.
@LouisvilleTorn8o Nice man! By the way, what do you know about the Tbolts at Hastern and Blue Lick? Those two are what I am eyeing for next month. I love how old and rusty the Blue Lick bolt looks and that I can park on a street and film it, but Hastern is so accessible thanks to the Macy's parking lot next door. I would re-record Wilder if it is lower, but I have been chased away during the school year before, so I am trying to catch sirens at places with public parking until summer.
You can pull into the subdivision right by the Wilder Tbolt, right between two houses. You don't have to be on school grounds, and you get a good echo there.
If you don't go for Wilder, go for Harstern. I think it's a level 5 with 4 RPM rotation. Blue Lick is a level 6 or 7 with 2 RPM rotation. Southern High School is even better, because it's a C series 1000, which is 130 DBC.
@LouisvilleTorn8o I like to get the siren on video too, but if the leaves have all fallen from the trees, that would work. When the leaves are on the trees, you can't see the siren unless you are on Wilder's property. When are you gonna put that recording up? I can't wait to hear it! My plan as of now is to catch Wilder's 1000T assuming I can see it...if not, I will go to Hastern. Thanks for the info!
Hey guys: If you go for Hartstern's 1000, Get the video of it from Jefferson Mall, just a suggestion.

@razrramonel4077 Are you sure it is a 1000? I have it listed as a 1000T. And yup- I plan on recording from the extension off the Macy's lot.

My recordings from this month are up. Have you heard them yet?

Glad you got around to recording this awesome Tbolt. Sounds like the ring brushes are just a little bit worn, but it still sounds great!
For anyone who wants distance recordings of this Tbolt, please check out my 06-22-11 tornado warning videos recorded from off Blanton Lane.

@garyhstorms10 sounds 5/6 to me. I can hear the blower too.
ND1003 4 months ago
@ND1003 Yes. The blower is very loud. You can hear it pulsating a little bit in the video, but if you were there and heard it live, it was intense.
