From what you are describing I think that you should try bitter sweet style or dark decora. I wouldn't really suggest scene style to anyone just because it's not manageable like it used to be. I did that in middle school which was a million years ago so definitely try out decora. and if you want a challenge, a more punk style in Visual Kei. Hope that helped. ^__^

@Mannylinn It always depends with Bodyline. I personally wouldn't recommend buying accessories/wigs from there at all, and you have to be very selective with everything else. You get more bang for your buck at FanPlusFriend.

Ouji style is prince not not style and those really are a type of Lolita. They were integrated into Lolita with alice and the pirates label came around. And became really popular around the early to late nineties with the visual kei movement in the music industry. Especially with the band Malice Mizer . Mana sama dressed the band in aristocratic gothic Lolita and crossed over the gender to male as well as female with his lead singers most famously Gackt. This may be coming across as pious but

@TheTorisen I personally don't make a differentiation, but the difference is that OTT is an evolved version of sweet lolita that allows big hair, gaudy accessories, etc. If you look at old sweet lolita photos you can kinda see why they had to rename it. Deco-loli is even more over the top then OTT sweet, and allows more color/style choices.

@mina00009999 No way! You can always get the dolly skin look without really pale skin. I haven't seen a good make up tutorial for darker skinned lolitas so I may do one once I get a better webcam, but to get the porcelain like look just basically use a really good foundation like NARS sheer glow, and a soft light pink blush.

A lot of the places that claim to have cheap lolita clothes are just selling really bad quality cosplay dresses, so be careful of that. (Milanoo is the most infamous of them all). I would suggest Bodyline or Refuse to be Usual (Ebay) for quality cheap-ish stuff, or TaoBao, but refer to Hello Lace's guide before buying TaoBao. Hope that helped. =)

@OMFGItsJadeyCakes No, FrkSofium is right, gothic lolita cannot be mistaken for fetish models. In Japan, "gothic" doesn't have the same meaning that it does in the west. The gothic lolita look is mostly just black clothes, dark makeup, well defined eyes, and occasionally religious symbols for jewelry.

However, in the west, people very frequently replace the Japanese definition of "gothic" with the western one when going "gothic lolita" and end up looking like fetish models and nothing like JGL.

I wouldn't just suggest "searching Lolita fashion" because there's a lot of misinformation and scams out there. I would give some good websites to check, like Hello Lace, Lolita Fashion.org, and the Lolita handbook.

Also, our second example of a Gothic Lolita is more Ero. A good gothic Lolita outfit won't be mistaken for a fetish outfit.
