Hey steady on, with the references to age. I am only 53 but had this record up to just a few years ago. Loved it then and still enjoy it today. So thanks for up-loading it. Nice record. I will have it. Lol. I get a record player with it as well do I. Oh how things change. Years ago we had to buy the record player separate. Now you get one free with the record.
Jesus! "Singing the Blues" and "Sea of Heartbreak" are the two songs that remind me of my childhood more than any other songs. Too bad that hearing them make me so damned sad.
This is the first song I can remember relating to, and truly loving. I was 5, and made my poor mom play it over and over on that little 45rpm player of ours. And it has never fallen out of my all time top ten favorites. The older I get, the more I find myself being drawn to that era of the early to mid 50's....B.E. (Before Elvis) They evoke such fond memories of a happier and simple time.
I got to see Guy Mitchell in person on NBC Comedy Hour about the time this song was popular. He sang and danced and had athletic ability lifting his dancing partner. He was great. This song was always a favorite of mine. It was Country, Rock and Roll and Pop.
Guy Mitchell looked in a way like the actor Ross Martin. I first heard this song recorded by Black Oak Arkansas (with Jim "Dandy" Mangrum almost shouting "This is for YOUUUUUUUUU, Jacieeeee!" at song's end) on their eponymous album that was produced by Lee Dorman of iron butterfly. Mr. Mitchell's version almost sounds happy-go-lucky with the whistling, piano and ukelele (?) in the background. I like this, though I hate but understand why so many secular songs are so downbeat in their lyrics.
I had this on a 78(on Columbia,American release. All the major companies discontinued 78s in 1958,but a few smaller companies, such as King continued to make them for a year or two more.
This is a 78? Really? The first tune I ever heard on the Arvin clock radio my parents gave me for my birthday (1960) was this tune... I thought it was contemporary at the time, as I recall hearing it with some frequency... Were people still buying '78's in 1960? In 1956?
Well...Cliff Richard and The Shadows are releasing this song (Singing the blues) as their single on 14th September 2009, lets hope that it charts No.1 again.......
I love this song it is cool! This comes from a classical music guy! Bach's Brandenberg concertos, passions and solo sonatas for violis and cello,Schubert's 5th and 9th symphonies adn Rcihard Strauss' Violin concerto Rock. Christ the Savior Cahtedral in Moscow has been rebuilt!Haigha sophia(aka Saint Sophia or Holy Wisdom) in Constantinople(aka Istanbul) ans Sts.Constantine&Helen(on Stoney Silans Ave) in Chicago will be Christian again! Glory to God forever! Glory to God for all things!
I've never felt more like singing the blues when Rovers win and City lose (bristol) We hate Gary Johnson and all the rest! The only good Citys fans, the ones thats dead Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh Rovers You Got Me Singing the Blues ! :) Rovers Till I die & Goodnight Irene
Guy Mithell had a hit with a song called "Rockabilly", which funnily enough wasn't a rockabilly song, it was more like a pop rock tune. This one, "Singing the Blues", was originally recorded by Marty Robbins.
Rip that 78 to your hard drive while it's still in good shape and pack the record away. Great song, and nice way of presenting a classic audio file to the videocentric YouTube audience.
My father thought that Guy Mitchell was stuck on himself. I told my father that if he were as good looking as Mitchell was, he'd be stuck on himself too.

Wow, I didn't know they were pressing 78's as late as 1956. I thought all vinyl producers had switched to 45 or 33 by that time.

Great song. I can still picture this song playing on small transistor radios at the beach in Florida in the 50's as a kid.

of 'em all...E-L-V-I-S ! ! ! !
