  • @kempy5000 I am so sorry for you loss. Bob M

  • i can't help but smile whenever i hear this tune. it's amazing

  • no one marches better then the USMC

  • @bandboy11111 apart from the british.

  • @MegaFight4life which is second to the corps

  • @bandboy11111 Considering the british army has been around hundreds upon hundreds of years before the USMC, And the corps is marching to a british song in this very video. Isn't very second.

  • @MegaFight4life I know i know, two of my cousins are in the corps, one is KIA 2005, and the other is coming home from the Island on the 9th. So we are all proud of the courps

  • @bandboy11111 Sorry about the KIA my friend, a big thank you to your cousin from great britain.

  • @bandboy11111 The US military, USMC included, draw almost all of our military traditions from the British military. We were cut from the same cloth going back to the Revolution. Show some respect.

  • @fo694013 you mean forceably ripped from the cloth. Take what you like, throw back in our faces what you don't.

  • My dad loved "The Black Bear" he was in the Cameronians Scottish Rifles.

  • Very good rendition off "the black bear",,i used to be a piper in the 1st Battalion Queens Own Highlanders(Cameron & Seaforths)...Its a real rousing tune,,Thanks

  • In the 1st world war the germans called the scots " the devils in skirts"

  • @MrKingtiger007

another name for them was "The Ladies From Hell" i think anyone would run form Big hairy Scotsmen in Kilts Playing bagpipes or holding a gun and i'm Scots !

  • love it man ! Respect from a scotsman great to see you guys expressing this honestly makes us proud !

  • GREAT! I like it

    Greetings from Germany

  • I wish I could tell ya.

  • Oh those Americans, they love the Bagpipes! I must look into this.

  • Omg this is just to amazing. If we had these guys just march threw all our enemys country like this is would just bing death to all who hated America. They would see this amazing site and they would exsplode like we were shooting them with some sort of lazer gun. Amazing videos boys good job!

  • @IIIJFRIII During the second world war in the western desert my father was ordered out of the camp to practise his pipes in the desert he came marching back in an hour later playing the pipes with 5 thousand italians marching behind him for them the war was over and they wanted to surrender.

  • @SEAHOUSES8 What!! I'm so sorry man, did they get taken presinor??

  • @IIIJFRIII yes the italians became prisoners of war they were well treated and a lot of them stayed in Scotland after the war and married local girls.

  • Wow!! o.0 That guy in red is frickin' tall!! IT'S HIGHTOWER FROM POLICE ACADEMY!:D

  • one if yanks of englundish decent do morris dancing??

  • Brilliant tune.:)

  • @Ewolf98 Key word in your comment: WERE. There WERE/WAS. I don't remember the comment you're replying to, but I'm sure my point was: Being of Scottish decent doesn't make you Scottish. Knowing Scotland, knowing the culture from having seen and experienced it in Scotland for a large amount of time, knowing Scottish mentality from having spent alot of time in Scotland and learnt from actual, PROPER Scots. THAT makes you Scottish. It can't be passed down in blood, nor taught in events like this.

  • @Himno88 What utter nonsense. I for one am delighted when the Scottish diasporia takes pride in its heritage. Why would you not want to celebrate the fact that such a small country has had a hugely disproportionate influence on the world? It's bizzare too me.

  • @zc642 Again: these people are of Scottish DECENT, not actually Scottish. Thus my point is valid.

  • @Himno88 Unfortunately you are correct. The Scots are imperial but in a subtle way. Scotland attempts to be benevolent in order to take over we are bestowing our benevolence upon you why do you resist? but Israel still has the best takeover strategy for the US and nets billions its a real cash cow.

  • OY! oh wait wtf, thats frikn fast ....

  • It deserves a grammy!

  • the pipes are scottish not canadian

  • @MrTunwarm but canada is casicly scottish, a huge number of scots migrated to canada, just so you know im a scot XD

  • Only a true Scotsman can play the pipes, is nothing sacred?

  • @MrTunwarm That'll be why a canadian band have won the world championships 2 years in a row, and I'm scottish

  • @MrTunwarm There is a theory that no one has ever learned to play the pipes !!!!

    (Quote from Spike Milligan)

  • Get your own fucking culture, you worthless yankee bitches.

  • @Himno88 what are you talking about, most of Ireland immigrated to USA, Large American Cities have TONS of Irish/Scottish/Celts.

MOST fire Brigades in NYC for example have pipe bands BECAUSE of the Heritage our fore fathers had.

Police Departments, Fire Departments, Armed forces, all with ALOT of Irish/Scottish/Celts.

Maybe you could show some repect to your cousins.

  • @SuperChuckRaney Correct: You are DECENDANTS of Scots/Irish. But you are NOT Scottish/Irish yourselves. You are american. The only thing that ties you to Ireland/Scotland is your blood, NOTHING else. Still you keep using others cultures as if they were your own, when you know next to nothing about these great countries or their cultures, except for "leprechauns", "kilts" and "bagpipes". Despicable.

  • @SuperChuckRaney And please, the Europeans who settled in America were unwished outcasts in Europe. Any ties there may have been between us were cut centuries ago.

Through out history, the most important continent has without a doubt been Europe. We've been the most triumphant in all areas, but also have alot of which one shouldn't be too proud. But Europe's one and only true mistake, our only true SHAME through out our long history is the creation of what later became the USA.

  • Royal Scots (Y):)

  • you play it way to fast

  • England forever, Scotland a day longer

  • 0.25 If you are Not impressed by that sight you are a Silly fool and a geek. 100% full respect from Belgium. Great to see people respecting their traditions!

  • P & D and mil band just don't go together, do people ever learn

  • They need a lesson from real scottish pipers! A shambles compared to the real thing!!!!!

  • excellent superb playing. magic video

  • Excellent two of my favourites together. A pipe band and the United States Marines.

The Black Bear has always been one of my favourites also. Thank you.

  • Are they on the run?

Or do they have essential deadlines.. very quick ^^

  • marching toward not away

  • ugh to fast.

  • love love loved it. thank you for posting. it was moving for me for some reason...

  • I just watched this video to see how the tune was played, but the tempo is too fast for me :/

  • I say that when a person dress up in traditional dress then that person loves that tradition and wanting to be it for a time. And that is how old tradition and traditions stay alive for such long time after the originator has passed away. And to say it is wrong to do that is to hide or kill that tradition from the rest of the world. We are no longer in the dark ages. See and experience it all.

  • Acid! you just defeated your own argument. Highlanders on both sides. It wasn't Highlanders against lowlanders. Different

    religions backed different sides.

  • Perhaps. But, what I said is still true. Even in religions.

  • Comment removed

  • @SirBoboBalde I think you mean the Cameronians not the Camerons a different rgt. the Cameronians a lowland rgt. were raisedin 1689" in the service of his majesty and defence of the nation, recovery and preservation of the protestant religion, opposition to popery, etc. my father was one ww1 every man had to carry a bible.

  • @seorasmac ...nope i mean the clan Cameron, who were at Glenfinnan when Bonnie prince Charlie landed, and were met with disdain..to whch Charlie impuned their highland and clan honour by explaining it was their clan duty by oath of allegiance..Cameronians rgt are nothing to do with it.

My family are also Camerons and Royal Stuarts (nee Stewarts) and this has been passed down as gospel since the 1740's..

    Hope this enlightens you!

    Sorry

  • @SirBoboBalde

A the homosexual nig or nog thinks he's an enlightened one, the soothsayer who trails the toilets looking for victims when the pape is not teaching history?? Ha ha now I understand inflated one-Cameron or Stewart is it? how interesting-another nail in your coffin.I'd start buying a lot of anti-virus stuff if I were you...........

Peace be to you, fear not. ~Genesis 43:23

  • @SirBoboBalde

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black? It was YOU-low life scum that you are, who took umbrage at my comments here (because you are a papist perv) then googled me to attack me on another completely different thread.Being much smarter than the average asshole that you are, you were caught out and taken to task. Now if I ever find out who you are, I'll report you to the education authority-beasts of your calibre should be removed from society and castrated-I'd do the job myself

  • @fokjock shut up fool.

  • @Customdetailers

Why would I do that?-because a cocksucker asks it?-go and play with your boyfriends tool.

  • @SirBoboBalde

Penis breath-of course there was no Camerons Regt in the British army-mainly a bunch of Papists like yourself that should have been by the Black Watch, thus preventing their descendants reverting to homosexuals like yourself.

  • @slapleatheru3

Such a shame that the audience spoiled what should have been quite some recording!

When did this awful whooping start? More important when will it end!

    Ted Jones

  • @MrEwjones

The 'awful whooping' started about the time the tune was composed. Agree it's a shame that it was the audience after all it should have been the band themselves.

  • If you follow the logic that people of other nations shouldn't wear the kilt etc. then most Scots don't have the right either. It is Scottish highland dress not Scottish national dress.

    Hold Fast

  • @seorasmac you dont know what your talking about, Highlanders (not lowlanders) wore the kilt in battle up to the 18th century. The last battle on British soil was in 1746, the Battle of Culloden where the kilt was worn on both sides by the Highland units of the Jacobite forces and the Highland units of the Government Hanoverian forces.

  • @AcidC4 The kilt was worn during World War 1 by Scottish Soldiers.

  • @AcidC4 Errrr, im pretty sure the "Last battle on British soil" was during the falklands war.....

  • @AcidC4 actually the last battle on british soil was on the channel islands (forget the name tho)

  • @11Cheesewaffles ....... erm the falklands? we are still British you know!

  • @LRDR89 Yeah buts its british overseas territory, not counted as british soil as in the british isles

  • @11Cheesewaffles The Falklands are not part of the Channel Islands. They comprise of Jersey and Guernsey :)

  • amazing how few people know that lol

  • Ignore some of these idiots below there clueless,if anything i bet there not even Scots but English or have been brainwashed here in Scotland with the English Education system that has been rammed down our throats for 50 years.

On a brighter note its good to see our fellow Scottish brothers grasp there proud heritage with open arms and keep it alive i am just a bit annoyed with the Union Jack flying not the Saltire.

"We Can Still Rise Now And Be A Nation Again"

  • Also why is the Irish tricolour flying at a Scottish festival

  • You're an idiot mate. The scottish education system is pathetic, worse than the english one, and i know for history especially gives no rounded education at all, and while the english civil war (kicked off by events in scotland) gets no mention, the actual mattle tactics employed by robert the bruce in 1314 get several lessons' worth of attention! Its a fucking disgrace. The Highlanders were part of the british empire, mate, Scots were, if anything, over-represented in that respect.

  • Open up a Fucking History book once and awhile wanker. This tune should be played at highland pace not mil band pace.

  • What is it with these people? you can play bagpipes, wear full highland outfit, drink whisky untill you fall over, wont make you Scottish,

If you were not born in Scotland nothing wil make you Scots!!!!

  • You can't blame people for wanting to be Scottish can you? Finest country in the whole world

  • People still have proud roots of Scotland...at least these people had the guts to leave the repressive UK.

Scots have soem of the finest tunes in the world

  • @3tangle3 Amen to that! I have a proud Scottish ancestory (very cool) and a not so cool English ancestory (they make strong Kentish dark ale on my ancestoral Kentish estate-"Bishops Finger"-that stuff is disgusting. Anyway, I was born in Virginia,USA and now live in Colorado Springs Co. thanks to this video-you all can bet your tushys I'll be at the Scottish festival in Estes Park in September.

  • Hey, you jackasses who think it's a 'crime' to "pretend" to be Scottish...The heritage to which you were born into and which you have no control over is the 'sayer' of whom you are. I claim a lot of heritages and I am certainly NOT a "wannabe" as you so coloquially put it; German, Irish, Scottish (Clan Ross and Steele), English and Spanish (Castillion) and oh, by the way, I'm a Piper!

    Ross in Exile

  • Well, 1st time watching this all way thru , .. Bravo !! How wonderful , to hear , to, listen & see , all those wonderful people a-playing & the Flags just a-waving !!! Bravo

  • "If you're not born in Scotland, you ain't Scottish. "

Agree with you 100%. My friends have visited canada and america, and while they enjoyed their time there, they say they were very irritated by all the wannabe scots.

  • you total idiot, of course you can be a bloody if you weren't born there. What if your parents were on a weekend holiday in Wales when you were born? For God's sake man, you aint too sh*t hot in the brains are ye?

  • More Scots outside of Scotland than there are in it..

  • @starfighter441 Or is that people who claim to be Scottish because their grandpa was, when in fact they were born to American parents in America?

  • wow

  • doesnt help that he is a big tall guy in a great big scarlet doublet.

  • Great job! Like your music. If you wanna listen to the Swedish version of military drumming check out our videos!

  • when the americans read histrory

not watch hollywood then we will be free

  • I do read history and only occasionally watch Hollywood stuff sloppily based on it.

You don't have to always tar all Americans with one brush.

    Just thought I'd mention it.

"Come late when it's over, an American thing"...sometimes, but not all Americans always do that, and certainly some non-Americans do that...

  • "Make tea and good music, not war."

(comment by majorMcpharter, in the first few of the archived comments for this video)

    =^___^=

  • come late when it's over

    an american thing..

  • On the calendar on the wall in the room I'n in, there is a photo of a black bear (it's a wildlife calendar...that's the animal pictured for this month [September]).

    =^__^=

  • watch you guys many times great job from punta gorda Fla

  • more like ulster scots.

the ulster scots are the real founding fathers of america.not your plastic paddys

  • To rmorecook...

"The Canadian flag is there because there are bands in the video from the US, Canada and the UK"...yes...thank you for mentioning that. (Well, it's really because there are those bands *at the Festival*...not just because they're in the video. ^_~ But I know what you meant. ^_^)

    =^__^=

  • We just happened to be standing right next to a family who were doing that wooooooooo in a very high pitched way whicg goes through you. We couldn't move because it was packed. Yes, I know that not everyone does it and glad that Americans are annoyed by it too. Appreciate that excitement triggers it lol!!

  • Scotsbell,

Well, if the bugle band performed on the 4th of July, that could be partly why there was so much yelling and cheering and all. (I agree, though, that such behavior is annoying. And I'm American.)

    BigBadScotsman,

Canadians and Australians and people from many places also celebrate Scotland and Scottish heritage.

(Also, people and groups who play the pipes for any reason have a tendency to dress in kilts when they play the pipes, especially for public events of any sort.)

  • Thruxton,

Yes, *some* Yanks have *learned to act like* retards. Luckily it is not really the entire population. Only some. ^_~

(The ones who act that way...just shout so loudly that they drown out the rest of us. [Some of the rest of us would like to apologize for them. ^_^] [They annoy us too. ^_~[)

  • Oh. Re-reading the description, I've just realized why all the whooping and hollering. I forgot the Marine band was in it. There is usually some excessive whooping and hollering for the Marines and other American military bands. (Sigh.) There were probably a lot of Marines and retired Marines in the audience for that particular thing. (Sigh.) (Somebody tell the loud Marine fans that the rest of us are there to enjoy the music? ^_^) (Not the famous "tell it to the Marines" but to their fans. ^_~)

  • We don't actually ALL whoop and holler all the time. (Actually I really don't know why there is all that whooping and hollering in the background of that particular video. There must've been some loud group there that day.) (I live in Colorado and go to that Festival every year, and most of the time the audience is much more quieter than that. People clap sometimes but they don't usually scream.)

  • Great stuff.

  • Thank you Scotsbell I thought maybe it was just me...

  • WHY WHY WHY are all AMERICANS ALWAYS whoopin and a hollerin, you can barely hear the music for the extrenious noise.

A tip to ALL AMERICANS EVERYWHERE, IF YOU ENJOY THE BAGPIPES AND I MEAN REALLY ENJOY THEM; JUST LISTEN!!!!!!!!!

    Thank you...

  • is just what they do, part of their culture but agree it's annoying. We were in Williamsburgh, Virginia years ago on the 4th of July trying to listen to a bugle band. Couldn't hear a dam thing!

  • it's not all of us, just the loud ones. And yes, it is annoying...even to an American (with Scottish ancestry)!

  • because yanks are retards ! look when they have something to do with election time ,it makes me mad they sound like a load of fkn schoolkids.

  • The whoopin I think you may find is the pipe band drummers which is a traditional part of the Black Bear tune, if you enjoy bagpipe music you would have heard that tune before im sure

  • twat82it,

While it's useful to mention the pipe band drummers, just in case...I really don't think it was *them* that Scotsbell and others were talking about. It seems pretty definite that they were talking about the AUDIENCE "whoopin and hollerin" (which was in the video also...and was indeed kind of annoying...sigh!).

    ^_^

  • ehh why do the americans have kilts on n playin the pipes??not because thats a bad thing its not.but whats it for r they celebrating Scotland or sutin

  • BigBadScotsman,

Usually if you see Americans wearing kilts and playing the pipes, it means that they are celebrating Scotland and/or their Scottish heritage.

(Perhaps you missed the bit in the video's description that said "Scottish Festival".)

Longs Peak Scottish-Irish Festival, Estes Park, Colorado, 2004. (I was there.) (Well, probably not *right there* at that exact moment. Maybe not even that exact day. But I was at the Festival that year, and every year since.)

  • Dont listen to thruxton, thruxton dont know what its all about, with a name like thruxton (racing circuit in Hampshire) im guessing English anyhow. Edinburgh Tattoo or Worlds in Glasgow are place to be if your into pipe bands

  • I am a Scot, born, bred and living in Scotland. My great great +++ grandfather refused to leave his homeland and moved his family from the Outer Hebrides to the mainland city of Inverness. I am proud that my tiny country still stirs affection from descendants of the people who were forced to leave. As far as I'm concerned, they have Scottish blood and are welcome to take part in our culture.

  • @Scotsbell It warms my heart to hear someone say that, My ancestors were Scotch-Irish, the settlers of the American south, hillbillies by any other name, but I know where my roots are and I'm glad there is someone who can recognize that too :D

  • @Scotsbell Infinite words of wisdom, Scotsbell.

I also have Irish-Scottish roots, Albainn Gu Brath!

  • hey well done all americans here! black bear was spot on! ace!

  • foleydeman because a beard would limit the gas masks usfullness

  • lol its actualy quiet wierd seeing the british, american and canadian flags flying together. a bit like very long lost brothers getting in touch with each other again.

  • Kandahar Air Base has all 3 flags

  • That is who they are, brothers...separated by citizenship, united by blood

  • 1917 they said vimy ridge would never be taken.nobody told the canadians that .a two day operation ,they had vimy ridge captured in four hours thats fact. as a scot ex soldier our canadian kin lost thousands during two world wars and every conflict since then.

  • Am I the only Scot that becomes riled upon watching ferenghi claim Scottish Heritage, particularly those that have little identifiable culture of their own?

    Forsooth and Forsooth!

  • you're a strange one. shut up and enjoy the music :)

  • you know that the man in the WWII arent supposed to have beards and stuff? .....

  • Thanks for sharing fantastic drums.

  • The motto is 'no-one provokes me with impunity'

  • normally there would 10,000 redcoats behind with bayonettes fixed they on holiday lol.

  • No holiday in Afghanistan, Britain side by side with US & Canada. Up there for thinking, down there for dancing. Talk sense, not shite. Dont reply.

  • oi!

you should know beter than to fight with grunts!

if yah look for, lennox herald the argylls coming home!

best bit about it is they,re home

  • nemo me impune lacessit (no one injures me with impunity) Scottish Motto

  • well actually its the motto of the Order of the Thistle, and the Black Watch

  • And the scottish crown, and the Highland Division

  • great but 2 things wrong it was good but drums are mill band snares and band wasnt pure P&D

  • God bless the USA, Great Britain and Scotland!

  • @martinimerlin good comment and i see what you mean but you do know that scotland is part of great britain ?? =)

  • @martinimerlin u kno scotland is part of great britain? :P

  • @martinimerlin

Last time i checkt Scotland was a part of Great Britain. But then you can call it a double bless.

  • Whats the point of the 78th Highlanders Drum Major to not swing his arm like the other Drum Majors?

  • Each drum major will have his own style, he may just prefer to march with just his mace arm moving.

  • But the British Army Drum Majors I think have to sing their arm though.

    But I didn't know that.

  • The 78th represents the British Army circa 1869 before arm swinging was part of the drill. As a drum major it does take a bit of time to get used to not moving the non mace arm. You feel of balence in some ways.

  • He is the Drum Major. The "swinging of the arm" is used to keeep cadence. If he feels that it isn't necessary then he doesn't need it.

  • The 78th Highlanders represent a time period before swinging their arms was a part of drill. Back then, soldiers would march at shoulder to shoulder length with their arms firmly planted by their side. This allowed them to change directions more easily.

Those stiff arms are then presented again with the Drum Major, who's just keeping it consistant. Though I must admit it looks weird with the other Drum Majors swinging their arms while the 78th remains stiff

  • hehehe agreed...

  • Black Bear.. Regt. MArch of The Black Watch. ( my former regt) Had shivers down my back listening to this, Been a while. Nice vid thanks

    Nemo Me Impunne Lacessit

  • I absolutely agree.I love listening to the massed bands play The Black Bear on Edinburgh Castle esplanade on an August night in Edinburgh.

  • The Watch's regimental motto, "Nemo Me Impunne Lacessit", please translate. My Latin is weak.

  • Let No one strike me with impunity..

or if you hit he i'll get even big time lol

  • If you are going to reply at least get it right!!

The correct translation is: "No One Provokes Me With Impunity"

  • Well next time i will be more exact, i was giving approx translation

  • According to legend, the "guardian thistle" (see Scotch thistle) has played its part in the defence of the ancient realm of Scotland against a night attack by the Danes, one of whom let out a yell of pain when he stepped on a prickly thistle, thus alerting the Scottish defenders. In the motto "No-one touches me with impunity" (Latin: "Nemo me impune lacessit"), "me" was therefore originally the thistle itself, but by extension now refers to the Scottish regiments which have adopted it

  • Never attack me with impunity

  • Zippy Royalhighlander:

Many thanks for your responses. It appears the the USMC was in this take;however, their uniform should be a red aplha coat.

    Ernst Becker

  • I am retired from DoD and my last posting was Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, AZ. MCAS is where the "Commadant's Own" Marching Practices and starts it tour season. I was under the impressions that they were the only ons who wore the Red?

  • 'ArizonaDesertPiper' ~ the 'info' bar says that the KOSB's are part of the massed Band , it therefore follows that as part of the British Army they would have 'the red' in their uniform .
