I'm a theist and the way I personally see this goes like this: Any bad thing that I do is also a crime by me against myself. If I do evil to someone else, it's a crime against that person and against myself. Asking God to forgive me, doesn't absolve me from my responsibility to that person I've hurt. I still have to apologize to him/her and make amends. And I still have to be able to face myself, so I need to be able to forgive myself as well.
I been a Christian a long time I don't consider myself better than anyone else.We have all been effected by sin in the world directly or indirectly.Yes I believe in the forgiviness of God for those who are truly sorry.Being forgiven brings responsibility not only means admiting your guilt but facing up to the responsibility of it which may mean being punished going to jail or whatever. When Jesus caught someone doing wrong he forgave them their sins, but said sin no more.
RELIGION created by men, written by men, imposed by men on other men and why you may ask ? invented to control men where government cant, invented so men who wont fight for an unjust king or queen in unjust wars can be conned into fighting by using their faith in the religion that was invented to control them, a very clever and evil trick if you ask me. I think sin is someone's idea in what's wrong not their moral compass.

@MimicaXresurrected sin is like failure. as failure is there for success, sin is there for repentance.

I tend to think the main purpose of religion is to give people something to argue about :)
