is this for real? I think it is fake, they took shots from episode 4 and 5 to make this. the close up of luke you can't even see lukes face. I think it is fake.
@TieLandProductions After my comment I saw a clip of it being shown at Star Wars Celebration V so I must retract my comment. Although my claim was that you can't see his face very well so it did not have to be Hamall.
That scene was great! Not the best scene, but it binds Luke and Anakin much closer together which brings even more focus on the protagonist which it should. Although the cut before Anakin enters the elevator was terrible :P
@stitch99 My thoughts exactly, particularly 1 & 2. I got into a discussion about this years ago and my assertion still stands: 1/3 of the movie (about 1/10 of the original trilogy) is spent away from the thrust of the story on a single personal mission to save a guy who doesn't seem to care about the overarching plot (all with a single-mindedness that seems to forget the growing events elsewhere in the galaxy). I know it's supposed to prove #2, but it fails at that as it stands, IMHO.
@stitch99 Its a good scene, but still, I think the surprise when it shoots out of R2 beats them, because when he turns on his lightsaber here, it takes away from when he does it later on the skiff thingy, after that immense flip :)
In the book, chewbaca is watching while he cuts his artificial crystal that he make in a cooker. And thought about putting it on a rock and turning it on using the force for fear of it exploding. But decided that was unjedi like
this actually kind of makes Jedi tie into the prequel films a bit better since it makes it much more like Luke is potentially going as dark as his father before him.
@TheIcelucario64fan You mean in Return of the Jedi as a whole? All Jedi were supposed to be blue and Sith red, but the blue was too hard to see against the blue sky on Tantooine, so they changed it to green.

@CapQuacer
1. Where would they have taken the clip of Luke in the cave?
2. That is very obviously the ROTJ lightsaber he's holding.
3. This was shown at Star Wars Celebration V in anticipation of the Blu-Ray release. So, if you think deleted scenes are fake, then... okay.

This would have been so memorable, so important to me now if this had been in the original cut of the movie. It's fantastic, it should have been in.

That was cooler than all the prequels combined!!

i like green better because its different than most people pick the blue lightsaber its so generic

Reasons it should've stayed:
1. The 2 subplots in Act 1 are united.
2. The mission becomes refocussed as Luke's penultimate test to becoming a Jedi and thus is more vital.
3. Vader is much more actively pursuing Luke as an apprentice.
4. We better see that Luke has been training intensely since ESB.
5. It better conveys how close Luke is to the Dark Side.
6. All this in under a minute.
Reasons it was dropped:
1. It ruins the surprise of R2 shooting out the sabre.
Seem unbalanced to anyone?

@stitch99 I kind of like the opening scene in jedi as it is.

@theseamusexperience
You're entitled to your opinion. It's certainly not a bad opening; I simply believe this short scene would have made it better. That's all.
