  • Do you have the piano part from this solo? so yes Can i have him!!

  • Eva, my dear, did you pass that test with your playin' of 'Fantasy for trombone'? Please let me know. Blessin's on you!

  • @DaveWollenberg she did :)

  • bravo you hit the notes nicely and you have nice control of your toung when in legato hahaha some thing tht i hav to practic on myself hahahaha

  • Well done Syntex,

I am happy to see you are touching the bell for the correct sound.

I do same way and I am cosouled with your habit.

    best wishes

  • Well done.Syntex,

you are also touch the Trombone bell for the correct sound.

I am happy to see and agree with your idea.

    Best wishes

  • i'd be happy with an itunes version of this :)

  • beautiful tone and legato tounging be careful of swelling pitches though

  • sooo. im a highschool trombonist and.. haha you touch your bell in third/fourth position...my band director would freak =D just sayin.

  • I wish I could control my nerves as well as you do! Marvelous!

  • i love the fact that you switched from trumpet to trombone because im a trombone player myself and i hate trumpets!

  • well.....thats some damn great playing your tone is amazing. i nearly creamed my pants

  • What's the name of that piece? I called looking around but they could not find it.

  • This lady is GREAT!!

I play Bass Trombone and would enjoy a duet with her!!

  • what is the highest note of this piece it doesn't sound that high? maybe g?

  • @jonathanthursty 4 and a half minutes into a solo, your chops are starting to feel it. I think it's fantastic that she hit a G at 4:43! That's most likely better than I could play. Plus, if it doesn't sound high, then you're doing it right. The only thing she could work on is hammering down slide positions to tune as close to zero cents as possible.

Keep in mind: performances give jumpy nerves, and this was posted back in 2007 :)

  • Beautiful tone quality, Eva. I just happened upon this video, but your playing is really pretty and soothing to listen to. PLEASE do not take all the criticism that I see in the comments to heart-I made that mistake years ago when I was starting out. Therefore I never even tried to play any solos, and almost quit. When offered bass trombone, I jumped on it because I would be strictly in the background. To this day, I cannot bring myself to play a solo.

  • i think im going to use this song for a solo

  • Very Nice. Couple of things i would say to you.

Firstly touching the slide in 3rd isn't the best thing to do. But people have already said that.

The second thing is that try not to swell on your notes when playing legatio phrases it can split the phrase up.

    Other than that, great job!

  • vid is a couple years old but....I agree with Uriahsheep below....touching anything other than the slide slows you down. After 6 years of playing I bet you know where your slide is at all times. second, I notice that you use your arm for all movement, not your wrist. using your wrist makes the motion smoother and takes less effort. Think of it this way, you can hit three positions at least using just your wrist. lastly, nice tone! Good job. I'll look at your other vids. Thanks!

  • Hey, Eva, I was wonderin' if you passed your final with your rendition of 'Fantasy for trombone'. In my book, you did! Brava, brava! God bless!

  • its really beutiful, your performance inspire me, I am a medicine student but when I was in elementary school I started in music with a trombone I actually play it but not in a professional way, and when I heard you the first time it give me some kind some hope. Congratulations. (sorry I dont speak english very well)

    Groetjes Jolissa

  • @tromboneman101

TOTALMENTE DE ACUERDO CON VOS... YO SOY DE COLOMBIA, TOCO TROMBÓN Y EUFONIO (BARÍTONO)....LO MEJOR ES SENTIR, DISFRUTAR Y TOCAR CON EL ALMA

  • What great tone! Nice job, girl!

  • she forgot legato at 3:35 between the Bb and the C

  • yo no le daria un 5! le doy un 100°!

  • You sounded very good and had a coolerfull sound.

Have some fun with it next time.

    Thanks

    Trombone590

  • you didn't look like you enjoyed yourself very much, try and have some fun and you might come across better

  • I think that she's going to be a very good player because she desires to play the horn in the first place. She has the intestinal fortitude to be good.Keep it up young lady.

  • Beautiful!

  • good

  • yes I work on my breath! thanks

  • Dit was eind examen aan academie izegem west-vlaanderen dit was opgelegd werk dat we uit het hoofd moesten kennen. 1 van de 5 stukken. ik heb toen 81% behaald.

  • i love it especially the faster part

  • very enjoyable...in time you will go from good to great. Time will season the the subtle side of your playing if you live while you practice.

  • pretty performance indeed

i appreciate it but u can spend more time on practising ur tongue

  • nice !

and i'm glad im not the only one who touches the bell at 3rd ~ ^^

  • sooo pretty

  • Bedankt voor je commentaar. Ik was nogal zenuwachtig en daarom soms wat vals! :s

  • Not bad, just watch out for some intonation problems and keeping a steady tone for for the first three minutes of the piece especially.

  • you play a lil music. that is nice. Matetrombone added apiece and he cut wood instead of playing music. Winton Marsselis said once that even if u worm up with two notes u can play music with them. so i like the piece.

  • you are swelling every note like this < < < <

do < over the whole phrase instead maybe.

    nice tone.

  • Yes I know I will work on it. :)

  • I agree. Also, taking a bigger breath will help with producing that effect over a long phrase. And for cleaner attacks, make sure the tongue and air stream meet at the same time.

  • It isn't a shit, i like it.

  • here we go again

    another cocky mother fucker

look kid you cant play that shit perfect ESPECIALLY cavatine. i bet your dumb ass looked up cavatine because there is NO NEED to put the opus number.

    post a VIDEO

    or

    SHUT

    THE

    FUCK

    DUMB

    ASS

  • im with you 100% post a fucking video

  • this was great!

I've been playing trombone for two years, not close to this at all yet haha

  • wath tone keyboard and wath tone trombone

  • oh, and I forgot to mention........that was really well played, brought back fond memories!

  • I remember doing this piece for grade 5 I think it was....hated it until I did my exam then I've loved it ever since!

uriahsheep: I touch the bell whenever I go into 3rd and it never slows me down, it's all about how you grew up playing and works for you.....its like having your forefinger extended over your mouthpiece, some people do it some people just keep it with the other fingers on the slide brace. That's part of what makes us great musicians....we're all different

  • No that's actually about the worst thing you can do if you want to go on to be a decent trombonist.

  • What grade was this?

  • Great Job - how long you´re playing trombone?. I also will buy this piece. I wish you all the best with your music.

  • On that moment I was playing for 6 jears trombone. I had started first whit trompet. But later I changed to trombone.

  • 6 years to play like you... SO... If I can count, it means that there's only 5 and a half year left to play like you :p :D I started this year in March... But you¨re great, anyway! :)

  • It's not a bad thing to get rid of touching the bell...it really makes your playing slower when you have a fast passage for example. I'm not saying that it's a critical mistake but it would make your life easier, eventually.:)

  • thanks for your comment.

  • @uriahsheep Also, A classmate of mine was playing a rather fast section and he had a habit of sticking out his middle finger to judge positions by the bell. He ended up breaking his middle finger, because he was moving the slide too fast to move his finger out of the way.

  • Ela toca muito! Parábens!

  • Apparently this peice is only third grade! it feels was way harder than that..That D flat always gets me..

  • Sera q alguem sabe aonde eu encotro a partitura dessa musica??

  • beautiful

  • b-e-a utiful

  • show de bola parabéns Brasil

  • you were awesome i was listening and i didnt want it to end

  • okay look we all clearly play trombone but that doesnt give us the right to pick at her trombone playing. she did an awesome job!

no ever plays anyhting perfectly! so all you guys critzing her back off and enjoy the beautiful music she can make.

  • I thought that this was great. I don't see why other people have to criticize other peoples' playing abilities.

  • This gets better every time i watch it!!!!!

  • This was so good that it made me order the piece. It is so much fun to play!!!!!

  • I ordered the piece too from listening to it. It's wonderful ^_^

  • me too haha and so does my best friend who plays trombone. no worries :]

good job! i really want to find this to do for our solo ensamble

  • if you're from Ohio, that would be a no go because this song is not on the list of solos that you are allowed to play

  • No I'm from Belgium ;)

  • ok....one complaint. Throughout the entire video, every note is chewed. instead of DAH DAH DAH it was NWAH NWAH NWAH. If that weren't there, the tone would be near perfect. It's good besides that.

  • Very nice :)

  • It was a good job. The nerves showed, but that is normal at this stage in your career. The faster passages ... got a bit muffled, but still came through. Very good work. You used the emotions of the piece to flow well. One question? How much of a lag was there between your warm up and the performance?

  • Only thing is the obvious poor posture, other then that it was a good performance.

  • Great performance, but try not to show frustration of disappointment in your facial expressions. Not only will it help your confidence, but the audience will never know. =D Keep up the good work!

  • yes, I know I was so nerves! thanks

  • I also play trombone and I want to no where you ordered this piece from?

  • I love this piece. We play it in my band, but I have never had a chance to play it as a solo. I've only ever played the first trombone part. but I'm getting there (:

  • I'm sorry for what my cousin posted on here about this vid 3 months ago. I made him get his own youtube page and he knows nothing about trombone because he plays alto sax, but i'm sorry again.

  • thanks.

  • Hello I love this piece

Im gonna Perform it for Solo & Ensamble

Im an Eigth GRader at Ransom M. School

  • Nobody cares what grade you are.

  • This is such a beautiful piece. Anyone who performs it is richer for having done so.

  • it looks retarded how you are switching hand positions to touch the bell :D stop that cause your sound is nice

  • no touching the bell!

  • this is a beautiful piece [even more so played on YSL-446G trombone]. im thinking about using this piece for solo'n ensamble this winter. I LOVE THE LEGATO AT THE BEGGINING. but stop touching ur bell, thats cheating!

  • I thought you played really well. The thing most people don't understand is that music isn't just about blating, it is to make the piece you are playing match with the sound type and feel for the insterment. you did that very well for this song! =]

  • 如果你說別人一般, 我也希望你會Show你實力給人看.最起碼別人也會上載.

  • Not bad at all. Thouh you should really work on your horn angle and spread your elbows out a bit more so the tone quality would be better. I mean your tone is beautiful, but not as beautiful as it should be. Also at the end, you sort of died which sort of killed the great ending you had going. Anyway, good playing. I enjoyed it :)

  • I was playing whitout my music sheet it was for my examen of the musicschool. I hold my instrument on the way that i like. and i now it can beter but I feel myself good whit it. and you think you can do it better put than your version on youtube. and GET A LIFE

  • you clearly know nothing about trombone then, so back off

  • have you ever though about not leaving comments that do absolutely nothing but advertise that you are a jerk. Go learn how not to be a dick!!

  • hey thank you for your support

  • is a very good job

  • I thought the intonation and attacks were pretty off. Also, the touching the bell for 4th position is really elementary, and should be fixed...

Other than that, I felt the energy of the piece. I thought the dynamics were expressed well.

  • good job!

  • Aparte de lo atractiva que es, toca muy afinado y melódico. OK

  • kick it an octave up its down le gutter!

  • touching the slide is natural. it's how i remember exactly where position 4 is. especially when you play more than one instrument. i bet she plays piano too

  • touching ur bell is supposed to warp the sound but i always tell my band teacher to shove it.

  • Ive heard that too, but I started taking lessons with the second chair trombonist in the Nashville symphony and she tells me to do that to help me remember exactly where certain positions are. It really does help. And another thing, Conn sells bell weights designed by Christian Lindberg. If those dont affect sound, then surely your hand wouldnt

  • She's kinda cute... :P

btw, I touch my bell ALL the time...

There is no problem with that...

  • why so nervous? had your instrument to your face for a whole half a minute before your first note. need to chill, but you still sound better than me most of the time.

  • it was for a examination. and than I'm always nervous!!!

  • im surprised she is not using an F valve trombone while in college. good job though :)

  • why would she be? I had a friend who bought a strad that had no attachments just before college

  • lovely.

I think touching the bell looks kinda wierd... I dont do it....

  • im trying to break the habit of touching the bell

  • revoltingmexican

sorry dude but you have it all wrong

lindberg does not touch his bell with his fingers. i had a master class with him and he went ape shit about people doing that and told us all his slide technique. and it is not ok to touch the bell as not all trombones are the same which means the positions are different on every trombone so just use ur ears people!!!!!

  • whatever dude, watch his DVD "a night at the opera", he does it like 7 times.

  • It's totally ok to touch your bell when you play. If you watch most professional players, especially Christian Lindberg, they all use thier fingers to gauge middle C, which needs to be pulled in. Only Alessi doesn't do this, because he is such a perfect little snot.

  • very nice.. but to give you some advice:S why dont you use the "help"positions for the high notes??

  • even though that comment on the "groping" was uncalled for....she does need to stop touching the end of her slide 'cus it slows you down. I was taught this in the sixth grade! Guess what? I am in the seventh grade!

  • Może być tyko ma zły nawyk przy trzeciej pozycji dotyka palcami kontrolnie czary

  • Wow, everyone's an expert it seems. Chances are that most of the people criticising are hopeless at trombone and just jealous anyway. This performer sounds fine, she obviously isn't a professional so just lay off or prove you can do better.

  • i agree...most are people who suck in their freshman year in high school or shome crap like that.

  • agreed.

  • Yeah, one person even admitted to being in 7th grade. no one in 7th grade is any good. All these little nubs commenting on this stuff.

  • someone needs to stick a knife or 10 on her bell so she stops fucking groping it

  • nice playing girl... if you keep playing like that in 2 years or less, you will be a crack!!

  • Soo beautiful!! I cried, you deserve huggles for that performance! <(^-T<)

  • You go girl! Never mind the unsolicited criticism...women trombone players are intimidating to many! You got what they don't--SOUL!!!

  • I beg to differ

  • keep begging

  • You seem to go flat quite a bit. I think this might have to do with you embouchure. Your sense of meter is not bad. On your longer phrases you need to keep the air flow the same from the point of articulation into the next note. Not bad though, keep practicing.

  • I really want this score, can somebody hit reply and direct me to it? nececito la partitura alguien puede mandarmela ya que no puedo conseguirla?

  • I really want this score, can somebody hit reply and direct me to it?

  • a lot of this is out of tune all the partials are not lined up perfectly you must alter them all slightly for each note.

  • She has all the same problems I used to have when I first started playing in college then a trombone professor came along and fixed all of it. I teach music now and offer some advice that helped me learn to play better.

  • Touching the bell doesn't really do anything except assure you that you're in 3rd/4th position, but really, depending on the tuning of a piano, 3rd and 4th are not always going to be lined up right with the bell...which would explain why intonation is a little off.

  • Football shaped notes: Starts off soft, then gets louder then gets softer, hence the shape of a football. This, in return, gives a sort of "wah-wah" effect (you can hear it really good right when she begins to play). It has to do with the amount of air you inhale and then expel...posture has a lot to do with correcting it, but breath control takes a lot of practice.

  • This piece is shitty and boring. 4 out of 5 stars really?

  • if anyone knows where to get the score to this song, contact me. PLEASE!!!

  • The bell touching isn't a problem, it just bugs me. Your posture is killing me though, reminds me of our "faggoty" 2nd/3rd Bone with the sinking into your hips and elbows in. Your tounging could be a bit more defined on the technical bits and there could be more emotion in the shaping of the slower parts. I like your tone though, dark and round like a pro.

  • playing trombone, you should know how to spell tonguing, which i swear to god is the most mispelled word. the thing you taste with=tongue. The thing you sit in that you for some reason put a t in front of is a lounge.

  • If it's so misspelled, you should'nt get on my back about it.

  • yes i should, cuz if nobody ever says anything about it it will continue to be misspelled. plus you should know how to spell the most vital muscle in all of trombone playing.

  • Touching the bell isn't really all that bad. Granted, you shouldn't do it to "find" 3rd/4th, but if maybe you come to a point where you're holding a note or something, and you're flat/sharp, it's OK to use the finger to move it, but never use the finger to actually JUDGE where it's in tune, that should be in your ear.

  • you need to stand up straighter too. ur slouching a bit and not using the full capacity of ur lungs.

  • Yeah tank up and blow though, best advice for playing long phrases and dynamic shaping.

  • Your technical parts are pretty good, but you need to really work on your lyric playing. Not a bad performance, though.

  • what, touching the helps me when i play...

  • helps in what way?

  • Please, please, please don't "touch' the bell for 3rd position.

  • everyone does that..

  • tis good, but open yr arms out a bit, and give yrself room to open out and breath!

    lol

    very good still lol
