OOOP.....the movies name was "Endless Summer Part 2"

I believe this was shot during the filming of a surf movie called Endless Part 2, he had dropped the surfers and film crew off, and they asked if they could get him taxi-ing in and up onto the beach......he said later his adrenaline was pumping, and he went a bit overboard on the slide up on to the beach part.......and the whole film crew was standing there stunned. he was not landing, or ducking anything as stated elsewhere.

This actually did happen during the filming of Endless Summer II in Costa Rica. This happened on take off with a loss in power in one of the engines. I know the pilot (high time retired airline) and plane, it was rebuilt and I flew it in the states many times after this. Last I new the airplane was sold and went to Canada?? It is comical to hear all of the different comments from all of the know it alls!!

The Goose is a really hard airplane to fly. Just the slightest sidewinds and you are slammed in to the water. In this case he tried to slowly take a bend, but must have been hit by a sidewind as he did, which slammed the wing in to the water, and kept blowing him out of control. He should have checked the weather better before take off.

It looks like to me, he couldn't get the goose off the water, so tried to rudder round the corner without correcting with airelon which caused the wing to drop and strike the water. He shoulda just dropped power and taken it nose first into the beach, probably less damage would've been done that way

I've never tried to go around a river bend like that before but it's pretty hard to lose it that bad. Please. Stop with the misleading comments. He was doing some low flying over a lake (in Canada?) for a film. Then he saw a power line across the water and, it being far too late to pull up, he tried to duck it. But he caught a float in the water and gradually lost it from there. I think it sat there for a bit over a year and then someone patched it up and flew it out.

He had no chioce to abort and had no time to put the outriggers back down or they were inoperable due to a hydraulic issue, or they caused the issue when he went to retract them...

sum people say it was a landing altho ive seen landings and u cut the engines the drag is so great the hull sinks in and theres nowhere near as much water spray in the back...the engines sound a bit strained too...and they dont use reverse in seaplanes...dunno if this plane was able to do that anyway...

AND, that plane (after sitting on the beach for a few months) WAS restored...parts for old grummans are hard to come by, the left eng needed an overhaul down to the crank because the prop hit h2o and sand under power. The resort, unseen in this video, saw more business during those few months!

Was not Buffett, nor the albatros. He was landing, saw some wires too late(you can see them at the top of screen during first 2 sec of video), had to go under vice over due to his power at the time (engine response time). He was running out of "runway" so he turned right, and that turn was ok, but at the end of that first turn, the left wing touches a little, then over correction rears its ugly head. Even good pilots make mistakes, he was current but not proficient (first flight in a WHILE!)

Jimmy Buffet's plane was a "Albatross" not a Goose. Albatross is a much bigger plane than Goose. I cant figure this one out. Why wasnt the power pulled off imedeiately when he got into trouble. If this guy was attempting to take off, this has to go down as one of the worst takeoffs ever attempted.

he was doing a stunt in which he landed and while doing so he entered into a matting but something went wrong VERY wrong... i don't know what happened with the airplane but i believe it was stowed in a hangar

This shows no sign of being a landing. Nobody behind that boat wheel is stupid enough to start bringing the pontoons up on landing. And don't say it broke. That mod is tough. However. On takeoff, a commonly used procedure with a Goose with such McKinnon mods, is to raise the pontoons once you have aileron control to get them out of the water. Not trying to shoot you down, but I've flown a Goose too damn many times to believe that this was a botched landing....He was being a hotshot on takeoff...

You can see the starboard float flapping on its hinges going to the up position where they look like wingtip tanks...

What weight do you have to contradict me? It's a McKinnon STC. Supposed to be a gross weight boost and add a few knots. But it's best for getting the floats out of the way for takeoff and beaching/docking. I've flown with both and have no preference to modded or original. But again. I have one more coment on this. Something I just noticed. This plane is equiped with the fold up outrigger pontoons, and it appears that they were not in the lock down position. From the very beginning of clip you can see them flopping upward, which may have played a part in him loosing control in landing attempt. This may cause a unstable condition once the plane was on the water. Especially if the pilot thought they were in lock/down position as they should have been.
