Is newaza a scam, if you go to any JJJ you will find a different emphasis.

My style is Traditional but we owe a lot to BJJ for bringing back the whole art & putting it to the test in competition.

A lot of the strikes in JJJ don't work because they where created for samurai wearing mail gloves, there are also too many strikes.

Boxing only has 6 punches but they are effective so should be incorporated into JJJ as well as BJJ. Otherwise like Aikido JJJ will just become a training aid & not a ma

@infokemp: I admire your open-minded perspective and it's refreshing to hear a JJ practitioner give some credit to BJJ for advancing newaza. Too many look down their nose at BJJ because it's not "traditional" without understanding just how good it really is, especially when augmented with other arts.

This isn't BJJ, it's full contact traditional Japanese Jujitsu. And it's also a tournament and not a demo. The guy stealing movies from others should do some research before reposting them -_-

@Threron its not trad jujitsu ,its a tournament ruleset that allows full contact strikes,all takedowns and groundwork.The competitors are either judo,sambo or bjj with many having mma or kickboxing training,theres virtually no trad fighters in it.

before the term "mma" there was "jujitsu" ;)

most of today's MMA to me is jujitsu mixed with muay thai. Sure, the guys come from all sorts of backgrounds, but when it comes down to it, they're using mostly JJ and MT.

Just to add. before there was mma, there was VALE TUDO = Anything Goes. mmmm.sound familiar? Now they call it MMA. lol. Its been documented Brazilians were throwing down in the 1920's in public vale tudo in similar fashion. Remember then, no cages no rounds, no timeouts. Just Start & Finish

but were they using these same levels of grappling techniques that crossover many different styles today? I'm no martial arts historian, but I would imagine jujitsu and judo's grappling techs were worlds above any other styles before the last few decades. In MMA now, it's obviously JJ+MT though I have no idea what vale tudo looked like in the 20's.

Your correct. Theres no way i can compare the fighters from the 20's to the mma guys today. I just get bitter when people make MMA to be something new. Its been around in Brazil, Japan before then Greece. Nothing new.

Jujitsu is actually the oldest style, Judo much younger and BJJ the youngest. As far as I know Jujitsu is the most complex, utilizing both striking, throwing and grappling, while Judo focuses on throwing and BJJ on grappling.

But I like Karate anyway. ^^

this was a JUDO tournament NOT jiujitsu. if you watch you can see the refs giving out ippons and wazaaris. this event was held in england about 6 years ago
