Bob Knight was the coach of the USA team had the best quote reguarding Jordan. When Knight was talking to a Portland scout (who had the #2 pick in the draft) Knight said to pick MJ but the the scout said, "Michael's great but we need a center." Knight responded, "Well play Jordan at center."
Ill never forget watching this as a kid...everytime one of the USA made a basket the other team looked like they wanted to stop and clap..then after they got their buts whipped they asked for autographs..hahha good times..
I was a freshman at IU in Bloomington for the '84 Olympic tryouts. Charles Barkley dominated the scrimages and he was left off the team while Bobby Knight kept little Stevie Alford. This is a disgrace. I am a marginal player and I schooled Alford at the HYPER in a pick-up game. He should not be an Olympic champion. This is sorry.
@mattc941 WOW, You know more about Spain that the own Spanish people. Perhaps you will receive the Prince of Asturias Award this year! Qué tío tan tonto, la virgen...
Who would've thought that this was going to be the last championship Patrick Ewing was going to win until he joined the Dream Team, and nothing after that? If he would've known, maybe he would've had an "accident" with Jordan in practice.
If the media surrounding athletes were as crazy then as it is today, Ewing would've been that generation's LeBron James as far as hype coming out of prep school goes.
@RAV52 tbh, I wouldn't be so sure.... it's really hard for a star like ewing to compliment a high volume scorer like jordan, I think that the bulls would still have more rings with the way they were than if they had ewing. The bulls were just so dominant not only because they had the greatest player of all time in Michael Jordan.... but also because they had the PERFECT supporting cast to compliment Jordan. Just my opinion.
@meamud Jordan could play with ANYONE. The scoring was simply because he HAD TO. Nobody else was going to do it so it had to be Mike. With a dominant big man like Ewing (not to mention a close friend), MJ would have gladly shared the scoring load if it meant winning titles. Just like Charlie Sheen, WINNING was all Jordan cared about.
@RAV52 with or without him we woud have have had 10 ring if he didnt quit in 1993 and jeery crouse wasnt a fuckin retard for dismantaling the team in 1998
@Mraloneandsad Very likely. 8 titles at minimum if none of that stuff had happened. But that wasn't my point. Jordan and Ewing were best friends who played great together whenever they were on the same team and I could only imagine how badly they would've absolutely raped the League had Jordan actually played with a dominant center like Pat. Shit would've been illegal...
@1PRTYBLK1 I was there too. Between 8th and 9th grade. Remember how great a time that was? Truly one of the greatest times in my life. LA 84 saved the Olympics and we knew it while it was happening. Such much fn that summer. Man that was fun!!!!! Oh and yes...Jordan was GOD back then too.

The 80's MJ was the BEST! I don't care what people say. He might not of had championship in the 80's but he was just a pure beast. when i look at this video im impressed mainly off of MJs speed and hops he put on display. like the two or three times he drove the lane and got his shot blocked, when he burst to chase down the ball..... MAN that guy was fast
I have to come realize that NBA superstars like Lebron or Kobe that don't go to college miss out on something. Maybe it iss learning to play the right way before you go to the NBA.
for those who watch the conversations about this game in the Jordan tapes and highlights... this was the game MJ was struggling in n coach stated that MJ would work harder n harder despite a bad day to help win the game.

I have this game. My converting program has been on the fritz which is "WHY" I haven't been postign games as of late..
Here's yet ANOTHER example of MJ "Killin" zone defenses.
In fact, this is a REAL zone & not "Complete" help defense, which is what we have in the NBA today, that they're "Selling" as zone defense..
