And at the end, the best song is... both combined!!! The two lead guitars mix so well together, in tone, pitch and tempo - I don't know if they are originally in the same exact key or if they share similar chord progression and they were "matched" in pitch and tempo, but they match perfectly. Maybe Satch and the Enanitos could sit down and talk a bit about it :-)
hey it happens a lot in the music world, you'll hear songs that sound similar to others but thas how it is, some steal or borrow or just made it n sounds like another song n well also i learned that...
It's just a simple, basic melodic line that makes sense over that particular chord change, people. (and the chords aren't even the same here like in the Coldplay song) Want to have some fun? ... Try looking at similarities in blues songs.
They are quite simmilar. But different groove in both of them, showing different emotions in the the playing. I do not know if Joe Satriani have plagerized this or not. But when i listen to "If i Could Fly" he definetly playes the song whole heartedly, and i've never herd a song that's been plagerized played whole heartedly before. Thus thinking it might just be a stroke of luck or bad luck when it comes to this. But both songs are good in theire seperate ways...
No their styles are simmilar because they both learned directly from blues songs and Jimmy Hendrix records. There are tons of songs of Felipe Staiti that look like Satrian's songs and viceversa.
It's what happens when you're a true musican writing music and not untuned garbage like Wes Borland or Kurt Cobain.
In this days is hard to tell which musicans actually make their songs and which are given to them but I asure you this guys are legit.
That is, someone heard an amazing progression somewhere at some point, then "remembers" it later, quite possibly while jamming on something. The result is that you think it's yours while it's not.
So, it's plagiarism without actually knowing the other song.
The Coldplay song was quite a bit more obvious, so I doubt it's the same thing there.
I hate how kit27 is trying to make a point... Los Enanitos caught the beat first, then Joe Satriani took the beat... the Coldplay took the beat... and then Joe Satriani sued Coldplay... its just a cluster fawk of stealing 1 beat... lmao
@CharlsonChew2 agreed, and same with the beatles, the who, and eric Clapton in some songs. If what satch is sayin about starting to reord this song ten years ago is true than this would definitely not be plagiarism and every1 shuld just chill with saying satch is a hypocrite
Satch is amazing but then again he screwed himself over. Look at how many songs have the similar riff. So many songs before his was ever released so it made him look like he did the same shit that he's accusing Coldplay of. But thank God that they settled it, both Coldplay and Satriani are musical geniuses and legends!
Satriani is just a complete loser tossbag who steals others songs and then goes... THIS IS ALL MINE... I just hope Satriani's era comes to an end soon :) Shows there's no god when ppl like Satriani exist to try to take music into the dark ages. scatch would never "steal" a song. "viva la vida", "if i could fly" and "frances limon" sound just pretty similar because there are used pretty common chords. i think that there a million songs which sound like them when u play them in an equal speed...
but anyway... satriani`s song is the best.. basta :P
A) Satch didn't steal this song, stop being drama queens.
B) Satch acted on emotion when he sued Coldplay, because "If I Could Fly" was dear to him and near to his heart.
C) Satch made a mistake, he did not have much of a case, and this song proves its
D) Stop making Satch out like he's an evil disgusting hypocrite. The dude made a mistake and he settled it and Coldplay's okay and he's okay and this band is okay so CALM DOWN and stop trying to villianize someone
Not to play "sides" or offend anyone who likes each respective song/musician... but seriously? Coldplay BLATANTLY ripped off Satriani's VERSION of LEV(Los...etc)'s melody. Yes, they sound similar, but it's kind of different in Coldplay's situation where they literally stole Satriani's melody note per note (well I guess you could technically say interval per interval since it's in a different key I think). Either way, what Satch did happens all the time in music, Coldplay ripped it.
@zhantiiX I never said that! I only talked about Satriani and Los Enanitos, because coldplay... In my opinion, are good but not genius (maybe they copy) :P
Since the Los Enanitos guys did their song before Satriani, they might have agreed with Joe doing like a remake. I say this, because if Joe copied them, there would be trouble.
Joe Satriani eats humble pie. He can sue coldplay for them making a song that ALMOST sounds like his, but Joe rips off Mexicans, and the mexicans don't even sue! forget Viva La Vida, bring on VIVA LA MEHICO!
@Blackedward I just found out about los enanitos verdes. Aside from the comment, I only meant to be humorous. If there was any harm really, I apologize. Anyways, to me, it's kinda a gutsy move to sue someone who's song barely sounds like satch's song, whereas the same satch song sounds almost completely like Frances Limon. Therefore, to me, nullifies the argument that 1. Joe Satriani is completely original, and 2. Coldplay ripped joe's song. Also, fanboyism is a disease, I.E. Satch worshippers.
Sorry, you can say all you want about this guy who analysed it correctly and they turned out to be totally different songs. But something to remember, is that most people aren't trained musicians. So from an average music fan's point of view, the songs are almost the same. It all sounds the same and if you don't know much about music you could mistake it for being all the same notes and chords. Also, in the Joe V Coldplay video the same guy made, he looked at rythym, tempo and meter. Here...
@blink182fan10 ...He did neither of those, despite it was obvious the two were incredibly similar. I think the guy likes Joe Satriani, and hates Coldplay, so was very biased. I think from a selling or musical enjoyment point of view, these two songs are far more similar than Joe's and Viva La Vida.
all of you should go to creativeguitarstudio and see a highly trained musical theorist compare the 3 songs. same beginning riffs but different bridges and ends , so the los enanitos wouldnt win if he wanted to sue joe. The coldplay incident the rythm of that song is the same as the lead to joes 'if i could fly'
wow its the same with just diffrent melodic feel with that said I believe that no one intends to steel anybodys music if satriani goes after cold play then these guys can go after him too. that form its in thousand of song it universal its even in toto older tunes aslong as the arangment is differnt & the feel is diffrent who give a shit these guys all share one thing in comon that they made ther version of the world old'st tune point. P.S I like all 3 version godbless
Theoretically speaking, If I could fly is not the same as Frances limone. Limone is much more linear in it's melodic lines while satriani may have a few notes the same, is much more melodic in his main melody
well los enanitos play on the lower side a lot more and it sounds more latin than joes but the similarity is disturbing. if i had to root for somebody itd definitely b los enanitos. bcuz they seriously rock.
@rawynsord Totally right only 3 notes are the same in enanitos and satch, but coldplay stole more than 3 notes now thats a rip off thats why coldplay paid satch so he wont sue them
They make a great duet. Though if you listen to the entirety of both songs there are significant differences. Still, with a finite number of notes in western music, copyright is going to have to make way for this kind of thing happening more often.
you know...i think this is a popular rythem (cant spell). i think natural soloing comes from where your fingers "just seem to fall" on the frets. great minds think alike. there.
Satch may have taken that little part but he added WAY more onto it. Not to mention that he probably asked them if he could use that one part in a song. Satriani isn't a shady person, he's the EXACT opposite in fact.
First of all, I'm hispanic, latino or whatever you guys like it. And I know both Joe Satriani and Enanitos Verdes(band from Argentina), and to be honest, I doubt JS would have copied this band. Shit happens in the music industry, and judging by Joe's ability and creativity, I doubt he copied it.
the fact that Satriani stated he's worked on the song since the 90's doesn't make it true.
the fact that Satriani has no case was proved when he dismissed his lawsuit (while it was agreed that Coldplay didn't do any wrongdoing). so one must ask himself - if credit was all Satriani cared about (he sure as hell doesn't lack money) - why settle and drop the case? simply because he had no case.
gotta face the truth, with all due respect (and I have plenty for mr. Satriani's guitar skills). but he totally dissed coldplay for nothing. probably P.R. btw that Frances Limon song is pretty awesome! :P
......And who invented the music?...who invented the chords, the scales , etc, etc?.....which came first the chiken or the egg?

@Pentatonikus
yoosergio 1 year ago

namaste1986 1 year ago
It's only 4 notes that are the same,
nothing serious,
just like the coldplay one.

wow its the same with just diffrent melodic feel with that said I believe that no one intends to steel anybodys music if satriani goes after cold play then these guys can go after him too. that form its in thousand of song it universal its even in toto older tunes aslong as the arangment is differnt & the feel is diffrent who give a shit these guys all share one thing in comon that they made ther version of the world old'st tune point. P.S I like all 3 version godbless
Jd22323 1 year ago
Theoretically speaking, If I could fly is not the same as Frances limone. Limone is much more linear in it's melodic lines while satriani may have a few notes the same, is much more melodic in his main melody
mywhalefartssmellbad 1 year ago
well los enanitos play on the lower side a lot more and it sounds more latin than joes but the similarity is disturbing. if i had to root for somebody itd definitely b los enanitos. bcuz they seriously rock.
da1wholuvanime 1 year ago
just because 3 notes match doesn't mean it´s a ripoff, i gotta say that's just casualitiy, now COLDPLAY's song, that was a ripoff
rawynsord 1 year ago
@rawynsord
It's not about the notes it's about the melody. You must be dead if you dont think it is sounding VERY similiar.
M2SWEDEN 1 year ago
@rawynsord Totally right only 3 notes are the same in enanitos and satch, but coldplay stole more than 3 notes now thats a rip off thats why coldplay paid satch so he wont sue them
hiladelphia 1 year ago
@rawynsord the 3 bands songs are equally common, plus theres creeky boards and cat steevens
Gee.... 5 people from different types of music... maybe ...just maybe ITS A COMMON FUCKING RIFF PEOPLE get over it.
Satch was the only one who was a dick enough to go to court over it.
im8teennow 1 year ago
Even IF he did take that part, I'm not saying he did, he made it sound a whole lot better than the song it's similar to. ^_^

They make a great duet. Though if you listen to the entirety of both songs there are significant differences. Still, with a finite number of notes in western music, copyright is going to have to make way for this kind of thing happening more often.

this is a small part of the satriani song. The entire coldplay song is like this. besides, the chord progressions are still pretty different.
Frozenyak 1 year ago
you know...i think this is a popular rythem (cant spell). i think natural soloing comes from where your fingers "just seem to fall" on the frets. great minds think alike. there.
jimbobplaysbass 1 year ago
Satch may have taken that little part but he added WAY more onto it. Not to mention that he probably asked them if he could use that one part in a song. Satriani isn't a shady person, he's the EXACT opposite in fact.

First of all, I'm hispanic, latino or whatever you guys like it. And I know both Joe Satriani and Enanitos Verdes(band from Argentina), and to be honest, I doubt JS would have copied this band. Shit happens in the music industry, and judging by Joe's ability and creativity, I doubt he copied it.
Those are my two cents.

you poor souls,
the fact that Satriani stated he's worked on the song since the 90's doesn't make it true.
the fact that Satriani has no case was proved when he dismissed his lawsuit (while it was agreed that Coldplay didn't do any wrongdoing). so one must ask himself - if credit was all Satriani cared about (he sure as hell doesn't lack money) - why settle and drop the case? simply because he had no case.
especially since he copied himself.

gotta face the truth, with all due respect (and I have plenty for mr. Satriani's guitar skills). but he totally dissed coldplay for nothing. probably P.R. btw that Frances Limon song is pretty awesome! :P

for mi both sounds like a santana´s stile of poppy riff.
but there´s to look ferder back in time. maybe it´s a tradicional tune or something like that.
i know that great bands took melodys from italians sonattas of 18 century ( like the beatles)
or medieval songs,, folks songs.
steeling music it´s part of the art.
