  • Used to have a Rankin Family cassette when I was younger with the Limehill Medley, it's a great foot-stomping mix of tunes!! :DD

  • this one is a treasure ☺ ♬

  • love it! Does anyone know where I can get this particular song? I want to give at as present to my grandad, he loves fiddle-music! I would really appreciate it!

  • @battyboyzzz THIS IS NOT A SONG! The Rankins have a set of tunes begininning with the Lime Hill strathspey on the CD "Fare Thee Well Love" but the following strathspey is different with "Keep the Country Bonnie Lassie" in place of Calum Breugach. Jack Daniel's Reel is played in the set in the CD. "Molly Rankin's Reel" which is part of this set on the video is also on the CD but follows on from "Tell Me Ma."

  • Canada and definitely the world lost a great musician the day we lost John.

  • Never miss their concerts when they stop by my city!

  • Oh Goodness! Why did ye have to leave us, Johnnie?!

  • people with talent like this should not be allowed to die :)

  • Still the best, and missed so much.

  • what a talent we lost when John passed away

  • Awesome!

  • The tunes are ...

The Lime Hill strathspey (by Dan R MacDonald)

    Calum Breugach strathspey

Jack Daniels reel (by John Morris)

Molly Rankin's reel (by John Morris)

    Muillean Dubh reel

Howie MacDonald is on piano, and Jimmy is on the drums. Can't tell who the bass player is.

  • john morris is the best fiddler

  • We used to have a Rankin Family tape with some of their best music from back when I was a kid

  • WOOOT!!! I love this song! It becomes a real foot thumper at the end

  • it's not a song, it's a medley of tunes

  • Thanks Superstar85CA. I have been resonding like that on several comments -I get awfully grumpy when tunes are called songs , "it really rips my knitting" Thanks again. :-)

  • @UISTMAN59 ... It really rips your knitting?? lol; IAIN,I LOVE the expression!,lol!! but you are absolutely right!! it IS unnerving to read SONG for tunes. GREAT POST by the way!!! thank you!! :)

  • They are the pride of Cape Breton Island anywhere they travel the enrich the places they visit with music and a sense of friendship and fun. Belive me when I say i am a proud cape bretoner when ever or where i hear their music.. long live The Rankins

  • This is the most talented family! The Rankin's are definitely the pride of Canada and our heritage.

  • The third tune is Molly Rankin's reel, I believe.

  • Whew! Go Rankins! Man can they play and dance! They make it look easy!

  • Dem sisters got legs!

  • My God. Since I have seen Heather first sometimes, I am in love in this woman!

  • Now THIS is music and dance!!!

  • Aye, ah agree with you "dkd24". There is another video on Youtube that I had that feeling about.Brenda Stubbert's reel played on the button box posted by "diaton" is worth listening to.

I went to a concert where the Rankins were playing a few years back, it had a good atmosphere and I enjoyed the step dancing there too.

  • Notice how he plays Limehill?

That's the way to play it.

I hate when people speed the strathspey.

  • This is a lovely tune (or is it set of tunes?). Do they have any more songs like this?

  • Thanks for the question. There was an m.c. in the islands who used to say 'the next song will be a dance' and we always thought it was funny. I don't understand why some folk refer to 'tunes' as 'songs'. This is a set of tunes which - I think - comprises Lime Hill Calum Breauch King George IV Jack Daniel's Little Donald In The Pigpen Anyhow, go to lbrankinfiles for more tunes and songs from the Rankins. All I have I've shared I'm afraid.

  • No I was never there, the nearest I got to these particular Rankins was standing in front of the painting of them outside Bobby MacMillan's shop in Mabou in 1996.

  • Thanks for posting - Were you there? I really enjoyed this video of one of my favourite groups.

  • Thanks for sharing your videos! There can never be too many Rankin Family clips on Youtube! Just great!
