I heard them interviewed on a podcast called Buzz Out Loud...anyway the reason the combination of Coke Zero (or any diet soda) and Mentos works is the physical change when mixing carbonated drink with any object. you can put the soda in a cup and dip your finger in and watch the bubbles form around your finger. Mentos happens to work REALLY well because each mentos candy has 200 layers of minted sugar sprayed on, so the carbonation PHYSICALLY *as opposed to chemically* reacts with each layer.

This reminds me, if you really dislike someone, get a cheap bottle of fizzy pop and put a whole packet of mints in there or as you can see mentos would probably work better, close it really tight, shake it hard and put it in the freezer. the pressure will build up inside the bottle so much due to the endothermic reaction that the bottle will explode. so if you dont like someone choose theire freezer, it will be a couple of hours before they think their freezers just exploded
